Chapter 75: Chapter 75

"Did you do it or not?" asked Aleta, who was relaxing in the living room.

Danas, who heard the question, just looked down and answered in a low voice. "Yes."

Since the departure of Christina, the butler at the Melvin mansion, many household policies had to be adjusted. However, it wasn't that important considering the number of servants working in the house was fairly large. The people in the house didn't have to worry about it.

Unfortunately, even with all the facilities in the mansion, Danas was still told to work by her in-laws. In fact, Danas had been self-conscious enough to do household chores while helping Christina. However, her in-laws treated her as if she had never done anything. Of course, it was all thanks to Renata's unfounded complaints. The woman who was Melvin's mistress slowly began to successfully brainwash Aleta into hating everything Danas did and looking at him badly.

"If you've finished tidying up the living room, then prepare dinner. Melvin will be home soon," Aleta said indifferently.

The purpose of the old woman ordering Danas around was to get Danas to move more. This was in accordance with Aleta's view that moving around would help to maintain the pregnancy. However, the order from Danas' mother-in-law seemed to have gone too far. The reason is, since Christina was not around, she quite often told Danas to work from morning to night. Even though there are many maids in the house. However, Danas was more like a maid than any of them.

Even though Danas was getting tired, he nodded and carried out all Aleta's orders, without complaining, without swearing. She just kept quiet and finished her chores one by one.

Danas immediately went to the kitchen. There, she prepared the ingredients for dinner. There was a servant accompanying her. However, the servant was not allowed to take over Danas' work. It was enough just to help. Any more than that, and Aleta would scold her.

"Is Madame all right?" asked the maid with the curled hair. She looked worried at Danas' pale face.

Danas showed a faint smile. "Yes. Take it easy. I'm still strong," Danas replied. Though, to be honest, the woman was already exhausted.

Aleta, who had been relaxing in the living room, went to the kitchen to check on Danas. When she got there, she overheard the conversation between Danas and the waitress.

" She should be fine. Danas just needs to move more. She can't be so weak! Don't be spoiled!" Aleta scolded with widened eyes.

Suddenly the servant who was worried about Danas shut up and looked down. She no longer tried to do anything for fear of being presumptuous and offending Aleta. The maid just obeyed and helped Danas a little.

Before Danas could finish preparing dinner, Melvin arrived home. He came early because his business at the office finished earlier than usual. When he got home, he immediately looked for the presence of the people of the house and didn't find them anywhere. It was only later when he went to the kitchen that he saw his mother scolding his wife.

"Really, yes. Kids these days are so weak," Aleta grumbled, which Melvin heard.

Melvin stepped faster. With an angry face, he approached his mother.

" Mom!"

Hearing Melvin's voice, Aleta suddenly looked back and saw her son who looked furious.

"What are you doing?" the man asked sternly.

Aleta swallowed. She felt that she had been caught red-handed.

Actually, Melvin had told her several times not to make Danas work. Moreover, there were already many maids taking care of the house. However, Aleta didn't listen at all. Aleta had her own opinions regarding pregnancy. Although sometimes she overreacted. Perhaps, without realizing it, Aleta actually told Danas to be like that because she hated that woman. That sometimes had nothing to do with the baby in Danas' womb.

"You're home," Aleta replied, trying to lighten the murky atmosphere.

Melvin, however, didn't seem to care. He was even angrier at his mother's actions.

"Didn't Melvin tell Danas to get plenty of rest? Why are you telling her to work?"

Aleta looked pressed. Even so, the old woman didn't want to lower her ego. Then, she tried to get her son to give in.

"It's for the baby's health, the mother has to move around a lot," Aleta defended. However, Melvin was only getting more annoyed at his mother's explanation.

"I've had enough of your thinking. What's in it for the baby? Can't you see that Danas is exhausted?" Melvin snapped, pointing at Danas who stood there breathing heavily. "That's not healthy for the baby or the mother. You're trying to murder my baby, aren't you?"

"Melvin!" Aleta looked furious. "I couldn't possibly think of such a thing. How could you accuse me when all I've been doing is thinking about you and your son," Aleta snapped, starting to get angry.

Melvin didn't reply to his mother's words. However, he looked very unhappy.

Because the atmosphere between mother and son was getting murkier, Danas finally spoke up.

She got up from where she was standing and rushed over to Melvin.

"It's okay, really. I'm just thankful that your mom is paying so much attention to me. I've also read on the internet that it's good for pregnant women to move around a lot. It will also help with labor," Danas explained, trying to get Melvin to understand.

However, Melvin seemed to struggle. "What did you read on the internet? How can you trust something like that without validation from a doctor? You just shut up! Go rest!"

Danas was speechless as she heard Melvin's harsh and cold words. She had hoped that Melvin wouldn't be too harsh on her mother.

Meanwhile, Aleta who saw Danas defending herself felt a little relieved. The reason is, Danas did not choose to make things worse. Danas could have complained about everything Aleta had done in the past few days.

Aleta quickly buried her feelings of relief and pleasure, however. The old woman kept repeating in her head "don't be fooled, don't be tricked..." In order to keep herself from melting down and seeing Danas as a good person.

Aleta strongly prevented herself from seeing the good side of Danas. Even if Danas shows something positive, even pleasing her at times, Aleta immediately denies all these things so as not to forget that she considers Danas as the murderer of her daughter. Aleta insisted on planting an evil, inhuman figure in her mind about Danas. She didn't want to see a speck of kindness from the woman.

Danas is an evil person. Believe just a little, and you'll be tricked. Every day, Aleta probably convinced herself of that in order to build distance from Danas.

"Melvin...," Aleta called softly but with an intimidating air. "I told you that this is all for your son's sake. My grandson. I wouldn't do this for a bad cause."

"What's for Danas? Why can't you see that what you're doing is outrageous?" Melvin snapped back.

Aleta was really disappointed to hear that. Not because her intentions were being denied, but because her son was showing a completely different expression than usual.

It wasn't just that he was worried about the baby. However, Melvin was clearly worried about Danas' condition. It was as if he had fallen into her grasp.

"Ka, you don't believe me?" Aleta asked. The woman just didn't want her ego hurt, so she desperately defended herself. In fact, deep inside Aleta, she realized that what she was doing was starting to go too far. The reason, of course, was because there was a slight feeling of pleasure in torturing the woman she hated.

" Mom! I've had enough of this conversation. It's always repeating itself. It's as if you never understand what I've been explaining," Melvin explained. The man was starting to run out of patience.

Realizing that her son was really angry, Aleta stopped arguing with him.

"Yeah, whatever you say!" she snarled and pushed Danas because she was so angry. The anger arose because Aleta assumed that her son was no longer on her side.

Fortunately, when Aleta pushed Danas, Danas was not far from Melvin. So, Melvin could immediately hold Danas from falling. The woman was pushed into Melvin's arms.

" Mom!" Melvin was angry that Danas had been pushed. Had he not held Danas, she would have fallen down.

Aleta left there at a fast pace and filled with anger. Without the slightest look back, the old woman went to her room, then slammed the door after going inside.
