Chapter 74: Chapter 74
Melvin was confused as he heard two different testimonies. He wanted to believe the words of the aunt who had been serving his family, but at the same time he couldn't imagine his girlfriend committing such a cruel act.
Aleta, as the first person to notice their quarrel, chose to side with Renata. For this woman, it was impossible for someone like Renata to do this. Moreover, all this time Renata had always acted as if she cared about Melvin's child.
Melvin let out a short sigh. The man massaged his forehead due to dizziness. Whoever the culprit was, the man had to make a decision.
" Stop it, you don't need to think any longer. Christina clearly has the bottle in her hand," Aleta said to Melvin. The middle-aged woman no longer had the strength to argue. The reason was, the debate was getting tougher and tougher.
"I really didn't expect Christina to do this. Even though Christina has worked here for a long time. Why did Christina do it?"
Melvin's words emphasized that he sided with Renata. The man finally set his heart, then was ready to make a decision.
" Mister, I couldn't have done that...," Christina said softly. However, from the way she spoke, she was already resigned.
Again and again the old woman made her defense. Again and again, she was refuted. This time, she knew that her position was really unfavorable. Everyone was accusing her except Danas. Christina was finally ready to accept whatever decision her employer gave her.
"This is really unfortunate. But, Christina has to go," Melvin said firmly.
Danas who heard that suddenly made a hysterical sound.
"No, no," she said, pleading at her husband's feet. "Don't fire Christina," she pleaded with tears in her eyes.
Christina was truly touched by the scene. The only person who stood up for her was the lady she had recently moved in with. Meanwhile, the people she had been serving did not believe her at all.
"Please don't fire Christina," Danas said repeatedly.
"I did, ma'am. It's okay."
Christina, who saw Danas like that, could not hold back her tears.
Meanwhile, the people who had made the accusations seemed unmoved. Aleta did not seem to show any compassion. In that woman's head was the assumption that Christina was the real culprit.
"Stand up!"
Melvin pulled Danas' arm. The man looked confused. He didn't quite understand the reason for his wife wanting to defend the maid who wanted to terminate her pregnancy.
"Why would you defend a woman who wanted to terminate your pregnancy?" Melvin asked with a suspicious look. "It turns out you're in cahoots with Christina, huh? You also want to eliminate my child?" said the man with a glare.
Danas who heard it then gasped because she couldn't believe what she had just heard. How could Melvin even think of such a thing? Moreover, this concerned the baby Danas was carrying. The baby she had been desperately guarding.
"No, no, no. I can't possibly think like that," Danas struggled with tears still flowing out.
"If that's the case, you'll have to let go of the woman who wants to abort your pregnancy," Melvin retorted with a cold stare.
Danas really wanted to scream. She wanted to curse the woman who had accused Christina without clear evidence. With just a pretext, everyone believed her. Danas threw an angry glare at Renata who stood beside Aleta, but Renata returned it with a faint smile that showed satisfaction.
For Danas, Christina was the only person on her side. The old woman had been her strength all along. Life in Melvin's house was horrible, but with the presence of that maid, she felt like she could get through any hardship. If Christina were to leave, Danas couldn't imagine her days in the house of the man who accused her of being the murderer of her sister.
"That's all, ma'am. It's okay," Christina said as she rubbed Danas' back. She was the one who should have been hurt the most.
Neither Melvin nor Aleta's hearts were moved at all when they saw that scene. They were too deceived by their view of Renata. She was the one who intended to abort Danas' pregnancy. Once again, Danas and the people on his side get an injustice.
Aleta and Renata finally left the place after hearing Melvin's decision to fire Christina. Both of them returned to their rooms as if the incident had nothing to do with them.
As for Christina, she returned to her room to pack her things. Melvin told her that Christina could leave the mansion tomorrow morning. Then, he left and went back to his business. Danas, who still didn't accept the decision, continued to cry.
"Madam ...."
Christina hugged the sobbing Danas as they arrived at the room. The truth was, the old woman really couldn't bear to leave Danas alone in this house. Christina thought Danas was a very good person. A very caring person. During her time working at the mansion, Danas was the only one who made Christina feel that her existence really mattered.
"I'm sorry, Chris. I couldn't protect you. I couldn't prevent everything," Danas explained, looking so disappointed in himself. "I really have no power in front of Melvin and his family. I couldn't even prove Auntie's innocence of Renata's accusations. I'm completely useless."
Christina stroked Danas' hair lightly. "There's no need to feel that way, ma'am. I'm actually very grateful for the kindness you've given me. Even though you are not happy with your life here, I am still grateful to have the opportunity to get to know you. Since Madame has been here, I am truly happy."
Danas spent the whole night with Christina without Melvin and Aleta knowing. At least one last time, Danas wanted to see her off.
Danas was still unable to let Christina go. However, she tried to accept all the decisions and make peace with her current situation.
In the morning, Christina, who was ready to leave, said something to Danas. The old woman finally told her what really happened yesterday after Danas finally calmed down. Christina gave a warning.
"Madam should be careful of Miss Renata. As I told you before, she was the one who tried to abort Madame's pregnancy. The bottle I took contained medicine to abort the fetus. So, Madam must remain vigilant as long as that woman stays here," Christina explained with a serious look while holding Danas' shoulder tightly.
Christina's information was not surprising. Danas herself could imagine Renata doing something like that. Of course she had the heart. Moreover, she was the real culprit of Amaira's murder.
Danas nodded with conviction. She touched her stomach and was determined to protect the baby inside.
"Then, take care of yourself, ma'am."
This time, Christina made a soft sound while showing a gentle smile. Seeing that, Danas' tears again wanted to fall.
Christina carried her luggage forward. Despite being accused of all sorts of things, Melvin still gave the old lady a ride by calling her a taxi to the bus stop. It was the only concession the man could make to the woman who had served him all this time.
"I'd like to excuse myself," Christina said to Danas who was standing at the front door with Melvin.
Before the old woman left the mansion. She moved towards Melvin, then whispered something to the man.
"You might think that you've succeeded in getting rid of the person who intended to abort your baby. But just so you know, you've brought a fox demon into this house. You will regret that you chose to fire me instead of getting rid of that person," Christina said with an intimidating aura.
After that, Christina left the mansion without turning back. Her back slowly moved away with a cold impression. Danas could only remain silent after seeing the departure of the only person on her side. Without glancing at Melvin, Danas finally went inside after seeing Christina's departure.
Meanwhile, Melvin was still silent. He continued to think about Christina's words earlier. This wasn't the first time he had heard something like that. He had also heard Davina say that her anger had been misdirected. One by one, people told him that his decision had been wrong. Inevitably, the man finally recalled all the events he had experienced.
Was it the right decision to fire Christina? Melvin repeatedly thought about it. He himself did not see the incident firsthand. He only heard Renata's testimony and his mother's opinion. So, he had no choice but to believe those two people.
