Chapter 73: Chapter 73
Aleta told the two other servants nearby to tell Melvin and Danas to meet her in the living room immediately. Christina would be tried there.
"Yes, ma'am." The servants politely left and immediately carried out the task they were told to do.
Melvin, who was inside his private study in order to finish up a piece of business he had missed, immediately turned his attention to the sound of knocking on the door.
"Come here!" Melvin shouted. Letting the person in. It turned out to be one of the young servants working at his mansion.
The servant opened the door and entered politely. He walked up to Melvin and with a downcast look conveyed his intentions and purpose of meeting his master.
" Master, the Great Mistress has asked you to see her. She is waiting in the living room."
Melvin frowned in surprise. It was unusual for his mother to ask for a meeting by sending a servant like this.
" Okay," agreed Melvin. There was nothing in his mind about the matter for which he was summoned at this time.
The man closed the file he had just opened. He left it where it was, then walked out after the servant had retreated first.
Elsewhere, the other servant also called out to Danas who was resting in the room.
"What is it?" asked Danas after she opened the door for the servant.
"You'd better come, ma'am," the servant replied, hesitantly and timidly answering the question.
Danas was surprised at first because she wasn't usually called like this. From the look on the servant's face, Danas felt that something serious had happened. She didn't want to feel worried. She felt bad about it.
Melvin arrived before Danas. The first thing that caught the man's attention was the presence of Christina, who was standing bowed with a messed-up face and flooded with tears. While Aleta and Renata sat next to each other on the long chair, folding their hands in front of their chests.
"Well, Melvin finally came," Aleta exclaimed suddenly. "Christina, come on, tell me what you did!"
"Great Mistress, I didn't do anything!" cried Christina in denial.
"Come on and confess!" Renata joined in pressing Christina.
Melvin who was getting more and more confused and couldn't guess what was going on finally started to open his voice, "What's going on?" The man sat on the single sofa at the very end, which was the head of the table.
"Christina wants to murder your future baby!" Aleta replied, pointing at Christina.
Melvin was surprised to hear that, looking with an incredulous gaze at Christina. Christina, who caught her employer's gaze, replied with a shake and a look that clearly denied the accusation.
Danas, who was still outside the room, immediately stopped her steps when she heard her mother-in-law's words.
"No way ...." Danas was wide-eyed. The woman quickly entered the living room and joined the others. She approached Christina and took a stance to protect the helpless-looking middle-aged woman.
"What's that supposed to mean, Christina?" Melvin's voice sounded agitated. The man couldn't believe what he had just heard.
"No, Master! It was me who saw Miss Renata trying to put something in the milk that Mrs. Danas was going to drink. I prevented her from doing so!" Christina said frankly.
" That's a lie! That's not true! It was Christina who wanted to poison Danas with the medicine in the bottle she was holding! I was the one who prevented her from doing evil!" Renata turned the story around.
"No way... Christina would never do that to me. I know what kind of person Christina is," Danas chimed in, trying to defend Christina, "Precisely ...." Danas' words were interrupted when his eyes fell on Renata.
Renata, who was angry because she felt Danas was accusing her, immediately became angry. " What exactly?!"
Melvin was dizzy. This was no joking matter. There was an attempt to make his future child not be born into the world. He wasn't sure Christina had really done it, Melvin had known the middle-aged woman for a long time. The Christina he knew was not the type of person who would do something like this.
" Mister... please believe me. I never intended to harm Mrs. Danas and her pregnancy. I've no reason to do so, Master." Christina pleaded with tears in her eyes.
That's right... Melvin couldn't think of a motive if Christina really wanted to terminate Danas' pregnancy. If there was no clear reason, there was no way Christina would take such a big risk. Not only would she lose her job, she could end up in jail.
If Christina isn't the one lying, Renata is. .... No, no... that's impossible.
Melvin didn't wanna believe the thought that had just crossed his mind. There was no way Renata could have done it.
Although he tried very hard to deny it, he couldn't get rid of the thought of Renata. For some reason, if the culprit was Renata, it made more sense. The advantage would be on her side.
Yet, once again... Melvin refused to believe that the lover he loved so much would do such an evil thing as getting rid of an innocent child who hadn't even been born into the world.
"No need to deny, just confess!" Aleta urged Christina.
Danas, who could not bear to see the injustice before him, once again tried to defend Christina.
"Melvin... just like Christina said, she has no reason to harm me or this baby. I can even feel how much love and care she has for us." Danas persuaded.
"No need to defend this person, Danas. How can you still want to protect someone who wants to harm my grandson. Or maybe you're in cahoots, working together to abort Melvin's child!"
Melvin gasped at hearing another accusation from his mother. That was a totally plausible reason. It could be that Danas had deliberately told Christina to do it so that the baby in her womb would fall and she would think she could be free from Melvin's grasp.
"That's right! That must be the reason!" Renata added.
In Renata's heart, the woman cheered because Aleta's sudden idea just added more logical reasons in favor of Christina and Danas being guilty.
"No! That's not true. I would never want to abort my own baby. It's my own child and I love it very much." Danas began to sob.
Christina put her arms around Danas and gently patted the pregnant woman's back. Feeling bad that she was the one being comforted, Danas embraced Christina back.
Melvin's face now turned red. He was angrier than ever. After hearing the speculations that Aleta and Renata had said.
"So, that's your plan?"
Danas and Christina had deathly pale faces. Melvin's heavy, restrained voice sounded frightening. Renata unconsciously swallowed, starting to worry what if Melvin knew the truth that he was the one who wanted to abort the baby in Danas' womb.
"No doubt about it, that must have been their plan!" Renata pushed that thought further. She couldn't miss this great opportunity.
Even if she failed to get rid of the baby, she could at least make Melvin even angrier at Danas, as well as get rid of the only person on the woman's side, Christina.
Once again, Renata cheered inwardly. This time it was harder to hide her true expression. Renata believed that Melvin would believe her more. Situations and accusations without clear evidence like this could both benefit and harm her.
If not by constantly throwing accusations at Christina, she would not be able to win, it would have to be Christina who was eliminated, not her. Therefore, by exerting the maximum ability she has, Renata once again acts as if she is the right one so that Melvin and Aleta believe her.
Despite feeling happy, Renata also felt tense. This situation not only determines the fate of Christina and Danas, but also herself. It all depended on Melvin's decision, who he would trust.
Danas, who had been watching the expressions on the faces of the people there one by one, now began to understand the situation. In conclusion, he still believed in Christina, and it was definitely Renata who was trying to abort the pregnancy. She was only worried about Melvin who would most likely believe Renata more. In fact, she is also sure that even if there is real evidence showing that Renata is the guilty one, Melvin will still choose to believe in that evil woman.
