Chapter 72: Chapter 72
As Renata paced back and forth in her room, she was seen biting her fingernails as her frustration was still unrelieved. She had hoped that her plan would succeed this time. However, it seemed like fate was not on her side. The woman grumbled with mounting frustration.
"Shit!"
Renata glanced at the bottle on her desk. At first, she almost threw it in the trash because she thought it was useless. She even cursed because she was so angry. Nevertheless, she abandoned the idea of throwing the medicine bottle away.
"Maybe it's the wrong dosage?"
Renata took the bottle and looked at the contents carefully.
"I must not give up easily. This time I will definitely succeed," Renata said to herself.
Renata finally decided to use the drug once again. She wanted to increase the dosage, however. Supposedly, the plan she had devised this time would work. Renata hoped that when Danas took it, the fetus in the woman's womb would certainly die.
Renata walked out of her room with slow steps. She looked around to make sure no one had seen her in action. When she was about to go down the stairs, there happened to be no one around. Maybe the servants were busy cleaning or doing something else.
After making sure everything was safe, Renata quickly headed for the kitchen. There was no one hanging around the place. Renata was so happy because she thought that it was a great opportunity. Without lingering, Renata quickly took a glass and made milk to give to Danas.
What Renata didn't realize was that she was actually being watched. Christina, who had overheard her anger in the room, continued to follow her secretly to the kitchen. The middle-aged woman could immediately realize the evil intentions that arose from within Renata. Worried that Renata might harm Danas, Christina continued to monitor Renata's activities in the kitchen.
After finishing making milk, Renata took out the bottle containing the medicine to abort Danas' pregnancy. She opened the lid and put the contents into the milk. Just as she did so, Christina interrupted her.
"What is Miss doing?" the old woman asked Renata who was pouring the medicine.
Renata, who had just been caught, immediately jumped. The woman was so shocked. Even though she was very sure that the situation was safe and no one was around.
Christina walked over, then took the bottle that Renata was holding. Christina cast a sharp gaze, then asked in an intimidating deep voice.
"What is Miss Renata trying to do?"
Renata was trying to win herself over. Even if she was caught, it didn't mean she was in a dangerous position. After all, only a maid managed to see the action.
Renata then folded her hands in front of her chest. Standing up while raising her chin, she looked at Christina sharply. The woman tried to give a domineering impression.
"This is none of your old lady business," Renata said harshly.
Even so, Christina didn't seem fazed by Renata's arrogant attitude. Instead, the woman just sighed.
"Really ...." Christina shook her head. " I'll inform the big lord and lady about this incident."
Renata felt threatened by that. Unable to stay silent, Renata restrained Christina by gripping the old woman's hand tightly.
"Don't you dare report this to Aunt Aleta and Melvin!" she snarled while casting a glare. Then, her grip grew stronger and stronger.
Christina groaned in pain. She tried to release Renata's strong grip.
"Please let go!"
The two then began to argue with each other. Renata looked so desperate because she was afraid that someone would realize what she had done. If Melvin and Aleta found out about this incident, then there would be no more place for her in the mansion. It was certain that she would be kicked out, and her relationship with Melvin could end.
Finally, Renata did everything she could to snatch the medicine bottle held by Christina.
"Give it back!" Renata ordered. Then, because she was pulling too hard on Christina, the old lady lost her balance and fell down.
Just before Christina fell, her hand nudged the glass of milk that Renata had prepared to mix the medicine. As a result, the glass fell to the floor and shattered into pieces. The sound of the glass shattering was so loud that it could be heard all the way upstairs.
Shit! Renata's mind.
Any minute now, people would be arriving as they realized the hubbub that had just taken place. Even so, Renata didn't seem to give up. She was still trying to grab the medicine bottle that Christina had taken after the old woman got back up.
"Give it back!"
At that moment, Aleta, who noticed the commotion, immediately left the room and moved towards the source of the commotion. When she arrived in the kitchen, she found Renata and Christina arguing.
"What's going on?" asked Aleta, who looked confused.
The woman's appearance really put Renata on the spot. The medicine bottle that she wanted to grab from Christina failed to be taken. However, Renata did not lose her mind at all. The woman racked her brains to think of all kinds of ways to get out of the situation.
Then, a way finally came to her mind.
"Auntie!" Renata immediately ran towards Aleta.
Christina who saw the girl's attitude looked surprised. The reason was, she wanted to report the incident that she had previously witnessed. Renata should have known that.
"Auntie. It's really serious. Christina ...."
Renata acted as if she was very shaken. She started acting so that Aleta, who didn't know the whole story, would misunderstand.
"I saw Christina trying to put something in Danas' drink," Renata said.
Aleta, who heard this, was shocked; she couldn't believe what she had just heard. Aleta put her hand on her chest to catch her breath and calm down.
"Is that true?" Aleta asked Christina who was still standing still.
Christina then defended herself. "No, it's not. I couldn't have done that, ma'am-"
"Don't lie!" cut in Renata. She then raised her hand and pointed at the bottle Christina was holding. "If you don't believe me, check the bottle Christina is holding," the woman said, throwing a hateful look at Christina.
With just that one sentence, Renata had just twisted the facts. Christina was really disappointed to be treated like that.
"No ma'am. It was precisely I who wanted to prevent Miss Renata from harming Madam's grandson. This is the medicine that Miss Renata used to abort Mrs. Danas' pregnancy. I saw it myself."
Renata burst into tears. She wrapped her arms around Aleta and burst into tears.
"She had the heart to order me around. I can't possibly harm Melvin's son. I've even been very concerned about Danas all this time. Why would I want to terminate her pregnancy? I had no reason at all. It was Christina who secretly had a grudge and wanted to destroy this family."
Renata continued to throw baseless accusations at Christina. Christina really couldn't think of anything. How could Renata think of such a way. But of all things, what disappointed Christina the most was the attitude Aleta showed. Instead of trusting the servant who had been serving the family for a long time, she trusted a woman who even only had the position of a mistress in the family.
"Christina, why did you do all that? How could you?"
Aleta looked so shaken. She felt so shocked by the events she had just witnessed. Because, she was so disappointed in the actions of the servant who had worked for years and took care of her child.
Not once did Aleta doubt Renata's statement. For her, she trusted the woman who was her son's lover more than a waitress.
"I didn't think that Christina could do this. What were you really thinking? Hasn't my son treated you well all this time? How could you repay someone's kindness with evil. I really can't get over it."
Seeing Aleta's attitude, Renata smiled with satisfaction. She tried to hide that smile, but Christina who was standing in front of her could clearly see the triumphant smile on her lips.
Christina who had just been accused felt completely helpless. She had hoped that her employer would believe her. But apparently, rather than her, her employer trusted the woman who had harmed her family.
Christina's heart felt like it was sinking into a bottomless pit. Her intention was to help. But what she got instead was reproach. What an unfair world it is when good people are mistreated, while bad people laugh over the suffering of others. Christina felt so sad because she felt betrayed.
