Chapter 58: Chapter 58

Aleta arrived home with Melvin and Renata. The maids were seen welcoming them. Aleta asked the maids to take her things and tidy them up. She wished she could rest first. She was still tired from the long journey.

As Aleta walked into the living room, she saw Danas standing to greet her. Her son-in-law bowed once, showing respect for Aleta. Aleta, however, when she saw Danas' presence, anger suddenly rose up inside her.

The middle-aged woman tried to inhale and exhale slowly. She tried hard to calm herself down. Even though she knew that Danas was pregnant with her son's child, it didn't mean that she could immediately accept his existence. In fact, she had repeatedly prepared her heart before arriving home. However, when she actually faced the woman who she thought had killed her daughter, she struggled to control herself.

"Welcome, Mom. How was the flight?" Danas said, giving her a warm smile.

Danas knew from the look on Aleta's face that she wasn't really expected to be in the house. The look of reluctance from her mother-in-law was clearly displayed on her face. Even so, Danas still tried to be kind and show good manners. After all, Aleta was still her husband's mother.

As for Aleta, when she heard herself being called 'Mom' her feelings of anger had now peaked to the top of her head. Knowing that she would only explode if she lingered there for too long, the old woman decided to get up and leave immediately for the room that had been prepared for her.

Aleta walked with quick steps leaving Danas downstairs. The woman immediately headed for the second floor without turning around at all.

Meanwhile, Renata who also witnessed the incident felt happy. She could immediately tell that Aleta's hatred towards Danas had not disappeared at all. Renata thought that she still had a chance to use her lover's mother to get rid of Danas.

In the room, Aleta sighed harshly. The old woman massaged her forehead because she felt dizzy. She had come back to Indonesia for her grandchildren, but the moment she saw Danas, she immediately wanted to curse her son-in-law.

"Calm down Aleta. You have to calm down," Aleta muttered to herself.

During her time in the room, there was a flurry of emotions. Feelings of wanting a grandchild and guilt over what had happened to her daughter overlapped. Aleta couldn't help but think back to Sarah. The still unhealed wound reopened and stung. Amaira's face reappeared in Aleta's mind.

"Forgive Mommy, Amaira. Just for a little while. I'm just going to endure this until that rotten woman gives birth to Melvin's child."

The first day of Aleta's arrival at Melvin's house made Danas feel worried. She knew clearly that she was not wanted at all. It was only the baby she was carrying that caused people around her to be more lenient towards her. She kept thinking about her future, both for herself and her child.

Danas went back to her room to calm down. She was a bit shaken after seeing Aleta's presence who openly hated her. Danas actually hoped that he could have a better relationship with her in-laws. However, as long as Melvin and her family think that he is Amaira's killer, then it will likely be difficult to happen. Even so, Danas at least wanted to do her best to please her in-laws.

The first dinner with Aleta present began. Danas, Melvin, Renata, and of course Aleta sat together at one table. Danas actually wanted to prepare dinner for her in-laws. However, because she had felt a little dizzy earlier, she was forced to ask the waiter to help prepare.

At the dining table, the atmosphere was awkward. No one greeted each other. That was because Aleta couldn't get rid of her cynical look from Danas. Melvin, who realized this, finally reprimanded his mother. He felt that his mother was being too blatant.

"Mom, let's eat. Didn't you come here to see your grandson? If you always act like that, it could have an impact on Danas' psychological condition. I don't want my son to be born unhealthy because his mother is stressed," Melvin explained to his mother.

Aleta looked unhappy. She let out a long sigh. "Yes, yes...," she replied indifferently. Even though Aleta understood what Melvin meant, her attitude towards Danas couldn't just change. "I get it. I won't yell at the 'woman who carried' your son."

Aleta emphasized the phrase 'pregnant woman' with a rather harsh tone of voice to make Danas understand her position. She emphasized that she did not consider Danas as a daughter-in-law at all.

"Since you already know that the child you are carrying is the grandchild of our family, then you must behave more carefully. Take care of your health too, don't let Melvin's child become disabled because of your negligence," Aleta added with a frowning look. The woman didn't look at Danas' face at all when she spoke.

As for Danas, he only nodded slowly. Then answered "fine" in a low voice.

Danas went to bed early. Because she didn't have the opportunity to make food for Aleta before, Danas intended to get up early to prepare breakfast.

So far, Danas had often prepared food for her husband. However, for tomorrow's breakfast, she wanted to make it more special. Danas might not have a good relationship with Melvin's family, but she at least wanted to make Aleta who was now in their midst more comfortable. Even if Aleta was rude to her, Danas still appreciated that her mother-in-law had come all the way just to make sure she stayed healthy. Even though it was all for the sake of her future grandchildren, it didn't change the fact that Aleta was also concerned about Danas' health.

The next day, at dawn, Danas had asked Christina to accompany her to the morning market to buy groceries. She was already planning the breakfast she wanted to prepare for her in-laws. Danas wanted to serve Indonesian food because she knew that his in-laws had just returned from abroad. Of course, Aleta had not tasted Indonesian food for a long time. Danas hoped that by making her breakfast this morning, her mother-in-law could again taste home cooking.

Actually, Danas didn't really know her mother-in-law's appetite. She just chose a menu of food that might be liked by many people. Danas hoped that with this effort, at least Aleta's view of her would change a little.

The fragrant aroma of cooking spread throughout the room. Both Aleta, Melvin, and Renata who smelled the aroma of cooking suddenly woke up. Because it was already morning, finally Aleta and Melvin decided to get up. Meanwhile, Renata who had woken up decided to go back to sleep because her eyes still felt very heavy. While breakfast was being prepared, Melvin was getting ready to leave for the office.

Danas finished cooking and started serving the food she cooked on the table. The woman was happy because it seemed that she managed to make the food she wanted. However, Danas was a little worried in case her mother-in-law didn't like the food she had prepared.

Shortly after that, people finally gathered at the dining table. However, neither Melvin nor Aleta who saw the food commented at all. Especially Melvin. He should have known the kind of dishes Danas always made. It was obvious that this morning's menu was made quite festive. The man didn't seem to mind and just sat quietly as usual.

"Did you prepare all of this?" Aleta asked curtly.

Danas then nodded slowly while saying "yes" in a soft voice. Danas then explained that she had gone shopping earlier to buy fresh ingredients.

Listening to that, Aleta looked grumpy. Then the middle-aged woman frowned, "It's fine if you wanna go for a morning walk or even some light exercise. But don't forget to take care of yourself. You shouldn't go shopping by yourself from now on. It's too dangerous. What if something happens?!" the woman grumbled. She actually seemed to want to talk more. She even wanted to scold Danas, but when she glanced at her son, she realized that he didn't seem happy if she was too hard on him. Finally, Aleta chose to remain silent after talking quite a lot.

Meanwhile, Danas himself didn't argue with her mother-in-law. She was right. Moreover, Danas had already had the experience of being attacked by market thugs.

Aleta then tasted Danas' cooking. She could feel the taste of homesickness. Danas' food was really good. She didn't expect that the woman could make such good food. Nevertheless, Aleta still couldn't accept it. She didn't want to acknowledge or even praise Danas. Because, her hatred was so much bigger that it could cover all the good and effort Danas had done.

They had breakfast in silence and with a very awkward atmosphere.
