Chapter 57: Chapter 57
"Yes, Mom. Melvin will definitely pick you up at the airport."
At night, Melvin was busy telling the maids to prepare the room. His mother Aleta would soon be returning from abroad. Her mother was returning because she got the news that her son would soon become a father. Knowing the news, Aleta didn't delay her return, and chose to take the first flight ticket.
"What's wrong?" Renata asked Melvin. She had been relaxing in the living room admiring her freshly manicured nails.
"Mom's coming home. I want everything to be ready when she gets home," Melvin explained while busily staring at his phone screen.
"What?! Seriously, Auntie is back in Indo?" Renata jumped up from the sofa. Melvin, however, was busy with his cell phone. Without replying to Renata's words, he talked on the phone.
Renata was annoyed at being ignored. Even so, she didn't fume for long. She understood that her boyfriend was busy. She was sure that Melvin must be busy right now because he knew his mother would be home soon.
The news about Aleta's return made Renata a little hesitant. She was happy that the woman she thought of as her future mother-in-law would be back soon. At the same time, however, she was also uneasy. Because, until now he is still a lover. In fact, in the eyes of outsiders, she became Melvin's mistress because Danas was the man's legal wife. Renata is worried if her future in-laws switch sides to Danas knowing that the woman is pregnant with her grandchild. Renata doesn't want to be pushed aside, even kicked out of Melvin's house.
Melvin was busy with his business, while Renata kept thinking of ways to make Danas suffer even more. She always wished that Danas would just miscarry. Her jealousy of Danas grew bigger and bigger. She could no longer trust Melvin's feelings one hundred percent. It was obvious that the man had changed since Danas was pregnant. If Aleta also changed sides, then Renata's position would be even more cornered.
"Clear all schedules for tomorrow, I need to pick up my mom at the airport," Melvin said on the phone.
Hearing this, Renata then immediately moved from her position, then hugged Melvin who was standing.
"Auntie is coming home tomorrow, right? I wanna come pick you up too," she said, showing a pitiable expression. It was obvious that Renata was trying to get Melvin's attention.
Melvin was surprised because suddenly someone hugged him from behind, then he slowly released Renata's hug. The man then snorted. "Yes, that's fine. But ...."
"Why, can't I?" Renata looked surprised.
"Actually, Mama is angry because I married Danas. Then, letting you live here when she's my legal wife," Melvin explained.
Of course her mother was angry. The man had been too arbitrary and disregarded ethics. His decision to marry Danas was already wrong. Moreover, just like Melvin, Aleta also believed that it was Danas who had killed Sarah. Aleta couldn't understand how her son could make such a decision. Not to mention, because he couldn't let Renata go, Melvin kept in touch with the woman and let her live in his house.
Renata, who heard this, frowned.
"You're wrong. How long are you going to treat me like this," the woman said softly.
Melvin again let out a long sigh. "Yes, I'm sorry. But you know that the only one I love is you, right?" said the man and then he kissed Renata's forehead.
The words spoken by Melvin no longer sounded beautiful in Renata's ears. She was even tired of hearing them. Her lover often said sweet words. However, the fact that he started paying attention to Danas was undeniable. Renata was very annoyed with Melvin's wishy-washy attitude.
"Yes, fine. The point is, I'm coming to pick up Aunt Aleta tomorrow," the woman said curtly.
Melvin replied "yes, yes," with a wry smile.
The next day, Melvin and Renata rushed to the airport to pick up Aleta. The two people left early enough to pick her up. Melvin and Renata didn't talk much on the way.
Actually, Renata was still very sleepy because she usually woke up when the sun was high enough. However, she didn't want to miss her chance to meet Aleta. She hoped to win the heart of her lover's mother. She wanted Aleta to help her urge Melvin to separate from Danas immediately.
Renata couldn't stand Danas' presence in the midst of her relationship with Melvin. That woman had almost taken away everything. If one day Melvin really fell in love with Danas, then there would be nothing left for her.
They arrived at the airport. They waited for about half an hour for Aleta's plane to arrive. The two of them looked around, then found the woman appearing wearing sunglasses. Renata quickly put on her happy face to greet Aleta. The woman showed a bright smile when Aleta appeared and said hello.
"How was the flight, Mom?" asked Melvin. The man then hugged his mother and asked his subordinates to carry Aleta's luggage.
"I'm tired. But I can't wait to meet my grandbaby," she replied with a warm smile.
Renata, who heard this, was annoyed. However, she tried to hide her annoyance as much as possible and still showed a warm smile.
"Hello, Auntie," Renata greeted.
"Renata also came, yes" Then the two of them chatted. "I'm getting prettier," Aleta praised while lightly patting Renata's cheek.
They then immediately left the airport and prepared to return home.
During the trip, Aleta talked a lot about her experiences abroad. She had a lot of fun there, but it was different being away from her son. The news that Melvin would soon have a child made her so happy regardless of the mother of the child. Then, the woman also wondered about Renata and Melvin's relationship. She still couldn't accept the reason her son chose to marry Danas. If only he had married Renata from the beginning, Aleta wouldn't have to feel resentment towards the mother of his future children and grandchildren.
"I'm sorry, Renata. Auntie's son is very stubborn. I warned him from the beginning. I was actually hoping that you would marry Melvin," explained Aleta who was sitting in the passenger seat, next to Renata.
Melvin, who was sitting in the front seat, next to the driver, only listened silently to his mother's chatter. Meanwhile, Renata answered him with enthusiasm. She was happy that her relationship was supported by her mother.
"Melvin, don't you feel sorry for Renata? You have the heart to let her live in the same house as your sister's murderer."
Melvin snorted. The man looked annoyed. "Renata lives at Melvin's house because she asked for it. Melvin just complied with her wishes. Besides, I told you that I didn't marry Danas because I loved that woman. I just didn't want her to have an easy life. You know how painful it was after Sarah left us," the man explained a little annoyed. He wasn't too happy that his decisions were always being questioned.
"Yes, Auntie. It was Renata who asked. Renata didn't want Melvin to spend too much time with that woman," Danas admitted while making a face as if he was the one who was hurt the most.
"Well, I'm sorry for you. I hope you can become my son-in-law soon. At least, after Melvin's child is born," Aleta said in a sarcastic tone. The woman looked at her son with a glare.
Melvin, who was aware of his mother's insinuation, chose not to respond. He tried not to respond, because he knew that if he continued to reply to his mother's words, he would definitely get into a fight. Even so, Aleta didn't stop talking.
"If Melvin's baby is born, it's best if he divorces that woman. Auntie can't stand having a murderer for a son-in-law," Aleta said as if talking to Renata. In fact, she meant to tell Melvin to divorce Danas as soon as she gave birth.
"I won't divorce Danas even after she gives birth. At least for a while. I don't want to let that woman go so easily. She has to suffer worse than hell," the man explained in an intimidating voice.
Aleta who heard that finally chose to remain silent. She realized that there was no point in continuing to insinuate Melvin. The man was unlikely to change his way of thinking anytime soon.
Meanwhile, Renata, who heard the conversation, secretly felt insinuated. She realized that she had to bury the fact that she was the one who killed Sarah for the rest of her life. If Melvin's family found out, her story would certainly be finished.
