Chapter 28: Chapter 28
Melvin was busy at his desk. A stack of files had yet to be checked and needed to be signed. While at the same time, he also had to conduct an online meeting with his colleagues regarding their latest project.
There was a sudden knock on Melvin's door. The man looked up and saw who was coming. There was Rangga at the door. Looks like he came for some important news. Melvin told him to come in immediately.
"What's wrong, Rangga? Just report it, short and to the point. I'm really busy." Melvin ordered without taking his eyes off his work.
Rangga pulled a chair across Melvin's desk and sat there. He immediately opened his cell phone and showed pictures of Danas in the hospital.
"There's a little problem at home, sir," Rangga reported with a relaxed expression. To him, it wasn't an extraordinary case either, since it happened to Danas.
"Hmm, whats wrong?" Melvin responded still indifferently. He himself would never intervene directly if it wasn't important.
"Madame met thugs and was almost raped by them."
"HUH?!"
Melvin's reaction was unexpected. He immediately raised his head and stared at Rangga. His attention was now fully focused on the report his assistant had given him.
"What are you saying? Danas is going to be raped by thugs? Where? When? Who are they? Tell me quickly!"
The change in Danas' face shocked Rangga. He didn't expect his boss to be surprised by such a small thing.
"This morning, sir. Mrs. Danas wanted to go shopping at the market. She took a lonely road and met a recurrent thug there. She was going to be extorted, asked for road money, but somehow they wanted to harass her."
Melvin immediately changed his expression. His face hardened, his molars chattering with emotion. His eyes flashed with anger.
"Shit! Who are they to touch my wife?!"
Melvin even kicked his desk with his right hand. Rangga was surprised to see Melvin's reaction. He thought Melvin would be happy to hear the bad news but it was a hundred and eighty degrees different.
"Village thugs, sir. Three men. People already know about their odd jobs." Rangga answered quickly. He was still astonished by Melvin's attitude.
"Fuck! How dare they!" Melvin became even angrier. This time he stood up from his seat and grabbed his car keys.
Rangga, who was confused, could only remain silent. A moment later Melvin shouted at him while opening the door to the room. "You, come with me!"
"Okey, Boss." Rangga staggered to his feet and quickly followed Melvin.
Melvin left the office like a man possessed. He drove his car home. Rangga, who was sitting next to him, didn't dare ask any questions. The wrong questions and answers could get him sprayed by Melvin. The man was at the peak of his anger.
When they got home, Melvin opened the car and slammed the door violently. Maids hurriedly opened the door for him. They hadn't expected Melvin to come back home.
"Where, ma'am?!"
Melvin's thunderous shout frightened the maids. They had often seen Melvin angry but this morning his anger looked many times more frightening.
"Madam went to the college, sir." Christina ventured to answer. The woman who was still weak from the morning's incident turned pale in the face of a furious Melvin.
"How can she go to campus when she just got hit? Dammit. Did you go with Madame this morning?" Melvin asked Christina. His gaze was sharp as if he wanted to tear Christina's body apart. The middle-aged woman turned even paler.
"Yes, sir. I went with Madame to the market this morning." Christina replied with a stammer and her face lowered. She wanted to faint right then and there rather than be interrogated by her fierce employer.
"Tell me. What is going on!" Melvin's words were short but made Christina's knees tremble. Her body went weak at the sound of it. However, she knew she had to answer the question thoroughly. If she didn't, she would be punished.
"Madam took me to the market. As usual, to shop for daily necessities. After returning from the market, Madame invited me to take a quiet shortcut to get there faster. Unexpectedly, in the middle of a deserted alley, I met thugs. They asked for money. Madame did not give it to them. She resisted, but they started to touch her."
"Touching?!" Melvin's voice grew louder as he cornered Christina. The woman shrank and trembled even more.
"They wanted to force Madame to serve them. Madame was about to be raped. Her clothes were taken off, and--"
PRANG!
Christina hadn't finished her sentence yet, and a vase on the table was slammed by Melvin. The porcelain vase fell and broke into pieces. Everyone was terrified. Melvin was really angry!
"Rangga! Kill the village thugs who have been harassing Madam!" Melvin ordered Rangga who was still faithfully waiting for him.
Of course, what Melvin ordered surprised him. Didn't he hear it wrong? Why would Melvin tell him to finish off those thugs when he knew his employer didn't like Danas?
" Master, is that necessary?" Rangga's stupid question made Melvin stare at him sharply.
"Still don't see it? Of course, I've got to deter and kill the thugs who have dared to touch my wife. There is no mercy for them. Go find them and beat them up!"
Without waiting for the order twice, Rangga said he was ready. "I will find them immediately." He then left the room and called the other bodyguards.
Melvin stared at Rangga's departure with a grunt of annoyance. This was the first time he felt his pride had been hurt. Who were they, how dare they touch Danas? Danas belonged to him, no one was allowed to come near her let alone harass her.
"Find them dead!" muttered Melvin angrily as he left the house.
All the maids and housekeepers were terrified at their employer's anger. Everyone was silent and could only breathe freely when Danas' vehicle left the house.
Elsewhere, Rangga and his men immediately combed the neighborhood and searched for the thugs who had harassed Danas. In a short time, the three thugs were found and taken to a distant place.
In that distant and lonely place, the three were severely beaten by Rangga's men. The three asked for mercy and asked Rangga to stop torturing them. However, Rangga did not stop the action until the three were almost dying.
"That's enough! Don't make them die. It'll take a long time."
Rangga stopped his men's punches and kicks on the three thugs when he saw that they were all quiet. They might have fainted or run out of energy.
" Return them to the center of the village so the villagers can find them and help them. I'm sure they won't dare to steal a chicken after this."
"Yes, Sir!" Rangga's men replied as they dragged the bodies of the three thugs and put them into their car.
The car moved back to the center of the village. When they reached a deserted area, they dropped the three thugs off at the side of the road and left them there.
