Chapter 99: Chapter 99

"Tatum, can you turn right on the next corner from here?" Brianna asked.

She had been observing the road they were taking as Tatum drove them to where Lucien had ordered. The attentive driver was not expecting Anna's request, so he looked at his boss through the rearview mirror to ask for his consent or whatever his reaction may be.

Lucien was feeling the same shock as with Tatum Elliot.

"Pull over on the side," Lucien ordered to the driver. Who quickly complied, no questions asked.

Lucien turned to look at Anna with perplexed mien.

"What is it, Anna? Tell me," Lucien eagerly asked, yet with a gentle and worried voice.

Brianna felt weird about why her boss would act this way. She scratched her nape and stared at Lucien with an unreadable look on her face.

Brianna was not sure if she liked the strange feeling she was having right now. She is not used to being asked about her actions. Her men would always do as she says, planned or not, discussed or not. But remembering this man in front of her is her client, she cleared her throat and composed herself to answer his question with all honesty.

"I am sure, but I think I am familiar with this road," Brianna answered, looking at Lucien straight in the eyes, then she peeked at Tatum from behind him on the driver's seat. "You can ignore my words earlier, sorry about that. I don't know what got into me," Brianna apologized.

"No, it's okay. If you still want to take the familiar path, let's go," Lucien decisively answered. He was aware Anna had a memory loss right now. Remembering something might help her recover sooner. "Take the turn she mentioned," Lucien ordered the driver.

They took a few more turns before Anna asked the driver to stop.

"Pull over in front of the white gate," Anna frowned as she ordered. She was not sure of what place she was looking at. She was not even sure why she was here, but the place was like an invisible magnet, an invisible vortex of energy that was pulling her to get in. But she remained seated in the car. She could easily get into the place without any difficulty looking at how it was built, but she was contemplating.

"Anna, who lives here? Do you know whose house this is?" Lucien asked as he also checked the whole place from his seat through the window.

The two-story house with an expansive yet beautiful garden in its yard was surrounded by vast and empty land. The white fences made the place look so homey and a typical countryside villa house. It was a picture of a peaceful home. But it also looked lonely somehow as there were no neighbors nearby. Yet, it presents a welcoming ambiance with its fences not too high and with the yard so accessible to the eyes, the home seems nothing to hide. A bit worrisome for burglars as well.

"I am not sure, but I would like to check. Please stay in the car until I give the signal it is safe to follow in, okay?" Brianna spoke to Lucien with firmness, but before she got off the car, she patted Tatum's shoulder. The driver was taken by surprise, but when she looked at Anna, who also looked at him and nodded sharply, Tatum understood what message she was trying to tell him.

"Take care of the Boss while I'm gone."

The words didn't need to be spoken. The two bodyguards just had their eyes speak for whatever they wanted to say. Brianna nodded first, then Tatum did the same. Lucien was dumbfounded watching the two exchange nods while he was right in front of them with no clue of what they were silently discussing about. But before the young Michaelson could even express his displeasure, Anna was already out of the vehicle, and the door shutting surprised Lucien, even though it was just its typical sound to make sure the door was firmly closed and could be locked.

"Anna?!" Lucien was again late to even call her name out. "Damn! She moves too fast. I can't even keep up with her," Lucien whined. Then he turned his annoyance to his driver.

"What did she say?" Lucien asked Tatum with a sharp glare.

The driver was aghast with how ferocious his boss was looking at him from the backseat. Tatum cleared his throat and answered without looking at Lucien. He pretended he was watching Anna for backup if she ever needed one.

"She said to keep you safe inside the car while she checks if it's okay to follow her inside there," Tatum answered with a hand pointing to the house in front of where they were parked. Tatum suddenly felt weird. He did not notice he was speaking his thoughts out loud that even Lucine could hear them.

"But why would she ask me to pull over right in front of the house if she did not know this place?"

Lucien checked his emails. He needed to find the email Vicky had sent him a few days ago with Brianna Peters' personal information on it. He was still searching among a bulk of emails when Tatum spoke again.

"She has been here before. I am sure on that," Tatum murmured.

"What?" Lucien did not hear his last words clearly, so he asked.

"Huh? Sir?" Tatum asked.

"You were saying something. I didn't hear clearly, so I asked, what did you just say," Lucien explained without looking up. He was busy searching for that email from Vicky.

"Ahhh... Did I say it out loud?" Tatum asked himself. But as Lucien had asked, he told his boss what he thought.

"I think she has been here before," Tatum answered.

"Well, silly, she said the path was familiar, of course, she had been here before. Or she won't recognize this place, don't you think so?" Lucien sneered.

"More than that, I think she is way too familiar with this place," Tatum did not mind his boss' contemptuous retort at his comment. He was busy watching Anna's every move. She was seemed to step on certain spots with extreme cautiousness as if she knew exactly what would happen if she ever missed a step. In Tatum Elliot's personal and professional understanding, Anna seemed to know how to watch her steps as if she was the one who planted whatever traps were in the yard to get safely into the house. The whole place was dark, but the surroundings were still vaguely visible as it was a full moon. And Anna's silhouette swiftly moved around with experts and wisely calculated moves. Then Tatum saw the whole house turn lively and bright. With all the lamps in the entire yard on, as well as the whole house's, the place was even more serenely captivating and beautiful.

"Boss," Tatum called Lucien's attention. He was still looking at the house's porch where Anna was standing with her hands waving towards them.

Lucien looked up, still with a frown, as he could not find which among Vicky's sent emails were the one he was looking for, and Tatum dared to bother him. But his frown turned to a wide-eyes shocked face.
