Chapter 100: Chapter 100

Lucien hurriedly stepped out of the car and with his eyes fixed on Anna, who was waving her hand inviting them to come in, he did not even care if a car he wasn't watching his steps.

Tatum, on the other hand, could not decide if he should stay by the gates as a lookout or follow his boss inside to make sure of his safety. But thinking Anna was there, he was also half confident the young Michaelson would be safe. Tatum kept checking for any possibility of having anyone jump out of nowhere to attack them. However, as the area was in the middle of an open field, with the fence that could still see through and through the sides, in and out the yard, he was convinced there was no one else aside from the three of them.

The driver bodyguard decided to follow the two inside but not before making a rough check of their surrounding. When he felt satisfied, he followed Lucien through a wicket door on the gate. The pillars on the gates were big enough to store things. To its left was roof-covered parking for two cars, but only one was parked. It was quite a sharp turn to drive out of the gates. If the driver is not careful, the right sides of the car could get scratched. Tatum walked a few steps up the porch, and he could hear Lucien exclaims about something he sounded so amazed at.

"Wow!"

Tatum realized what his boss was so fascinated about. He was left speechless when he stepped into the house.

"You looked cute here, Anna!" Lucien's chirpy voice made Tatum and Brianna exchange looks.

"I didn't know until I got in. Apparently, this is my house," Brianna spread her hands with a shrug.

"I feel like someone is watching us," Brianna looked around.

Tatum felt alarmed when he heard what she said. Aside from her name and from what he had seen in her, he did not know anything about Anna. But unlike Tatum, Lucien knew some details about Anna from the files in her application forms during the interview.

And she was right. Ever since Brianna broke into her own house, an alarm was sent to Jack Foster. He was watching from his side on the screen. He could not decide what to do as he felt weird about why the house owner would get in like a burglar. A brilliant one to avoid the traps carefully planted in and around the whole property. He kept his intent gaze on his screen, trying to read any signals she would try to send him, but he could not tell if she was sending anything or if he was too stupid not to get the message.

Then he saw two men inside a car through the cameras installed by the gates.

One was Lucien Michaelson, and the other Jack supposed was a driver or a bodyguard. He had seen the three of them in front of the LM Building.

The audio was available, but it was off ever since he installed the surveillance camera. When Jack noticed Brianna looking around, murmuring something, he turned on the audio to check if she was trying to send him anything. If not, he would try to get anything from what conversation he could grasp.

Brianna would never bring anyone into her own home. She had never done so. Why now?

"Tell me something. I will start from any scratch I can get, just please... please..." Jack grumbled.

He did not want to take Blake's words that everything does not add up and that the possibility of Brianna having memory loss was not among the wild guesses of why she was acting the way she does, but looking at how everything was turning around now, Jack was starting to feel cold.

He set the volumes to the max.

"Don't worry about it too much, Anna. You will get your memory back in no time," Lucien said calmly.

He was right in front of a family portrait hanging on the wall. He was standing right in front of the camera installed right into Leith Peters' eyes as if he was watching the safety of his family.

"What?!" Jack felt like his spines were pulled through a string like a marionette doll and sat up straight from his chair. His hands flew to grab his hair and fisted them.

"Blake was right?! But how? Why? What happened to her?" Jack panicked.

He was thinking for people to have such things as losing their memories, they would usually have a bad fall causing head or brain injuries. In his assessments of Brianna, she is a healthy person to suffer such illness or abnormality.

Lucien stared at the portrait.

He could not ask any questions to Anna about who the people were in it. He just said she would remember everything soon. It means she does not remember anything right now. There was no sense asking her. She might even be distressed by him asking things she herself may want to recall. Lucien was amazed to see Anna's parents.

Anna was merely a toddler wearing a pink princess dress in the picture, smiling sweetly with her hands cupping her jaw seated on a high chair. Her mom was to the left behind her, wearing a pink dress with the same design as Anna's, while her dad was wearing a black tuxedo with his left arm was holding Anna's mom by the waist. The parents were standing behind a high table with Anna sitting on a high chair in between them. The background, the furniture, and everything else in the picture was white.

A portrait of pure joy and happiness can be seen clearly in the serene smile of their beautiful faces. Anna was like smiling at herself in a mirror, that it was too fascinating to stare at her innocent and angelic smile.

A thought struck Lucien's mind. A lot of questions popped into his mind. Yet, he could not voice them out.

"What happened to them?"

"How did Anna become an orphan at a very young age?"

"How did she grow up without parents?"

His wandering thoughts were interrupted when Anna said something.

"I'll try to find where my clothes are," then she turned around to walk up the stairs leading to the second floor.

"I wanna look around upstairs, too. Do you mind?" Lucien asked to Anna's back as she had already started to walk away.

"Sure," Brianna shrugged her shoulders.

Brianna felt she was too familiar with the house, but she could not be sure before she got to check thoroughly. Looking around, she already saw a few hidden cameras. What she wondered now was where the control room was or who was watching her house this way. Is it under her control or somebody else's?

There were three rooms upstairs. Two in the hallway across one another and one by the end of the hallway. She supposed it was the master's bedroom since the first one to the left was filled with exercises facilities. Not much, but there was the most basic, like a sandbag, dumbbell, kettlebell, and treadmill. The floor was covered with a rubber mat.

Across the room was like a study room with bookshelves on the wall, but the most noticeable was the full-glass display rack, which contained a lot of different money currencies. Bills and coins, cheques and tokens.

"Are you a numismatist?" Lucien asked Anna, who also seemed to look around her attentively.

"I guess so," Anna answered, staring at a rare coin. It felt nostalgic as she stared at it, but she could not clearly recall the memory behind it. Her hands moved to trace it above the glass. The coin seemed too close to her heart.

"B, that is what you always wipe clean whenever you miss and wish your dad was next to you," Jack spoke as if she Brianna would hear him. He knew it because she told him about the history that she was aware of among her dad's collection.
