Chapter 169: Chapter 169
The two, Brianna and Lucien, geared up on their way to the battlefield. Brianna was assisted by Blake as their usual and almost habitual arrangements when preparing for a “Hunt” as they used to call their gigs, and Lucien did not say anything even with his displeasure.
Blake Gordon avoided meeting Lucien’s eyes as he assisted his Boss B with everything. He did not want to see the glaring looks on Lucien’s face, so he busied himself with many things.
Lucien keenly watched everything Blake was doing for Brianna with the thoughts in his mind that he had to learn how to assist his wife from now on, so he silently took mental notes of everything he saw Blake was doing.
As he watched in full attention, he neglected to gear himself. Someone from their men wanted to assist him, but Lucien did not want to be bothered, so he shooed the man away. When Brianna was done and turned around to check on Lucien, she saw the man leaning on his seat in their car, moving to their destination.
“Hey! You wanna stay in the car the whole mission?” Brianna raised an eyebrow as he asked Lucien.
“Of course not!”
“Then are you going to get in there that way?” she asked.
Lucien looked at himself. He only had his ballistic vest on, but he had not secured weapons and ammunition with him. He looked around, a bit embarrassed but also feeling silly. Lucien saw the guy who came to assist him, but he declined. Lucien smiled sheepishly and shrugged his shoulders.
“Well, babe, I was busy taking notes on how Blake was assisting you because I intend to do all of them for you after today,” Lucien brazenly answered.
There were six passengers, along with Brianna, Lucien, and Blake, including the driver and the person sitting in the passenger’s seat. Their vehicle was a customized SUV car with the seats attached to the sidewalls of the vehicle, and the doors usable were in the rear except for the driver and front seat. And aside from Blake, everyone almost choked on their spit at what they had heard Lucien was saying.
The word “Babe” alone almost made them jump off the car.
The other six were three from each team, from Brianna’s team and from the Michaelsons Private Army. The man who wanted to assist Lucien was well trained to help his immediate boss, as he was the highest in rank among the three by Lucien’s side right now.
Every one of the six was scared to hear what Boss B was going to say in response. If only they could. They did not want to hear anything. They tried to block their hearing, but they could not make their move too obvious, lest they offend any of the two superiors with them in the car. All they could do was mentally block their auricular senses. But what they heard as a response made their ears flap wider to have a good hearing.
“Why did you have to wait for next time? You could have done it today,” Brianna sneered. “Who knows if this is the last mission I will ever get to join our team?”
“Don’t say that! You’re talking nonsense! You still have to marry me, remember?!” Lucien eagerly argued.
Some of the men inside the car coughed. But they all swallowed their coughs when they saw Boss B looking at their faces, one by one. Her face did not show anger or annoyance, but she was keenly checking if any of them was ill somehow.
They all paled!
“Sorry, Boss!” Chad Yates apologized quickly.
Then they cleared their throats and resumed silence.
“Babe…?” Lucien grinned widely as he blinked his eyes at Anna, who did not respond verbally but looked at him with her eyebrows almost crossed. Lucien’s smile became even wider, knowing she did not like being addressed as Babe, but Lucien wanted to call her that way, even before today. “Can you help me with this?”
The man behind the wheel, Neal Gunner, stepped on the brake so suddenly.
“God damn it!” Brianna groaned as she was about to move closer to Lucien but ended up rooting her face into Lucien’s chest. Startling everyone, especially Lucien.
“Babe! Are you alright?” he hurriedly held Anna’s face with both hands to check on it. “Drive properly!” Lucien groaned angrily.
Neal almost shrank in his seat. But he glanced at Boss B and his Young Master apologetically.
“Stop calling me that way,” Brianna groaned. “You’re making everyone here act like idiots!”
Lucien gave everyone around them a look to check if Anna was right to say so. And he noticed they indeed looked like fools staring at the couple with disbelief.
They all had their communication down for the time being. So they have the privacy to talk in the car by themselves. There was no fear nor chance to be heard by anyone besides the one with Brianna and Lucien in the vehicle.
“Well, I guess they have to know that you are going to be my wife, so they don’t get too surprise about every little thing they’d get to see us do or say to each other,” Lucien spoke loud and clear for everyone to hear.
“It’s up to you,” Brianna replied indifferently. “As long as Clayton gets irradicated, we can do that marriage thing you made for a bargain whenever you want. I lost. I should pay the bet, right?”
“You all hear that, right?” Lucien swiftly turned his eyes around him. Then he turned to Anna. “Now, I have more witnesses!” he added triumphantly.
Brianna just scoffed at Lucien’s words. Then she continued to help him get geared up while everyone else was still astonished to witness such an outstanding and absolutely worth celebrating news from the two young bosses with them.
“But do not tell anyone else,” Lucien stated as soon as Brianna got seated beside him properly. “I want to tell the news to everyone else myself, especially to Grandpa. Are we all clear?” he asked in a stern yet polite tone. And Lucien gave each of the men around him and Anna eye to eye contact to make sure his words were heard and understood. He started with whoever was already looking at him, then to the man beside the first. If they were not looking at Lucien, they would be tugged to meet with Lucien’s eyes and answer as necessary. Even the two men upfront of the vehicle gave their response to Lucien through the rearview mirror.
“If you support me to be your Boss B’s slave for a lifetime, let’s get this son of a bitch Terrence Clayton once and for all!”
Lucien made his tone humorous, but every man in the car could tell he was sincere with his every word.
“Congratulations, Young Master and Boss B!” Nico Deimus, the soldier leading the three from the PA team, greeted the couple right seated right across from his spot. “We will do our best! Right, boys?” he turned to his men. They nodded vigorously in response with a loud “Yes, Sir!”
“We are looking forward to the wedding feast, Boss B!” Ramil Finn also chimed in, grinning at Brianna foolishly.
“Wipe that grin on your face!” Brianna spoke with her teeth clenched.
Everyone in the car, except for Brianna, had difficulty hiding their faces. Even Lucien was ear to ear smiling, but as she was seated next to Lucien, side by side, Brianna did not see him smiling like everyone else within her line of sight.
Brianna and Lucien, along with everyone on the team, arrived at the location Jack Foster said was the hideout he had traced Terrence Clayton headed after a phone call he received from one of his men, which happened to be the one talking to Clayton over the phone at the warehouse area.
