Chapter 170: Chapter 170
Their location was still at a safe distance from where their target was. The person in charge of delivery inspections saw the guy who was supposed to drive the delivery truck where Lucien and Brianna were in. Brianna spoke with the person to bring them where they were supposed to be brought, like nothing happened along the way. If asked why they arrived late, he had to say he dropped by a gas station to use the toilet for a quick answer to nature’s call.
“If you refuse, there would be bloodshed. Because if you agree, we will only take the head man down to end all these evil things. How many young kids do have to get slaughtered like pigs for body organ harvesting?” Brianna asked the man.
“If you fail, and I am found to have betrayed him,” the man paused to gather his courage to finish his words despite his overwhelming fear. “My family will suffer more than death itself.”
Brianna stood right in front of the man. He was half a head taller than Brianna, so she still had to look up to meet his eyes with hers. Then she spoke with a firm and deadly serious mien.
“So you want to abandon the chance of eradicating such an evil?”
“I don’t love him if that is what you’re thinking of me,” he sneered. “But it’s not my life at stake alone.”
“This is a chance for you to get out of his hold,” Brianna pointed out.
“You know it’s a very slim chance,” the man retorted.
“Slim or not, it’s better than closing your eyes and letting this Devil do everything he wanted to be done. Can you imagine how awful would it have been if it was one of your children being cut into half to remove their youthful and healthy organs to be sold on the black market without even getting a dime out of it to give to their families or even to pay for a proper burial of their dead body?” Brianna spoke with coldness. She was disappointed to talk to such a self-centered person. She dismissed the thought of using this man. “Enough talk. I am wasting my time with you.”
Brianna turned to Blake to give orders.
“Make sure he regrets this decision. In the name of the victims and their bereaved families, this man who had the chance to help justice be served but declined for his self-interest does not deserve peace in this lifetime. Send him somewhere he will be useful for the rest of his pathetic life!”
Brianna was deeply angered. She wanted to avoid bloodshed as much as possible, and to do such a thing, she needed this man to drive the truck to where she and Lucien were supposed to be brought and meet Terrence Clayton face to face. The plan was to be tied up, a pretense, because they would have weapons ready in their body with their backup team also in position before they entered the door of their enemies’ lair.
“Wait!” the man panicked. He realized he feared this woman just like he feared or maybe more than he feared Terrence Clayton.
“Your time was up,” Brianna said with obvious annoyance. “I have no more second to waste on you.”
But the man, whose hands were cuffed from behind him, ran to block Brianna’s way and kneeled.
“I am sorry, please give me another chance. I will do everything you will ask me to do. But you have to give me your word that no matter if this plan succeeds or fails, you will be responsible for my family’s lives and safety. My only son is only nine,” he pleaded.
“Deal! I will make sure your son lives, but that is all I can assure you if we fail because if we succeed, you will have to keep him and his mom safe for the rest of your life,” Brianna answered with a stern tone.
“I agree,” the man nodded vigorously. In his thoughts, he must stay alive. He will have to do his best to survive this war and, like the lady said, set himself along with his family free from the Devil's grip.
“Now, let’s go! We don’t have much time,” Brianna declared.
Blake ordered one of his men, Andrew Hoggins, to ride in the truck with the man Brianna had just talked with. They will lead the way, and Andrew was to make sure this man does not do monkey business with them. Andrew told the man, Donrey Cox, everything Jack was telling him about Donrey’s son. Leandro sent people to watch the boy at school from a distance, while some were around the neighborhood to keep an eye on the mother.
“We will not move even a meter closer as long as Brianna does not give the go signal,” Jack informed Andrew. And the latter relayed the message to Donrey.
The man noticed everyone’s respect for the woman that spoke to him. He did could not avoid voicing out his thoughts.
“I am not sure why I trust your Boss B. Her words woke me up and made me realize that my boy is practically around the same age as the kids being brought to the warehouse for organ harvesting. It pierced my heart to think my son might be mistaken for someone else and be among the victims. So, I felt the courage to stand up and join your fight,” Donrey blabbered in nervousness and fear combined. “She’s so tough! But I trust her words that my son will be safe no matter how everything turns out today. I just hope I can survive to protect him and my wife from now on personally.”
“She has her reasons, but as far as I can stand as her witness, Boss B never breaks her words. You are fortunate enough to be asked for a deal. She could have just barged in there and out despite a massive casualty of lives that may block her way, but she chose to spare lives that could be spared as much as possible by taking you with her,” Andrew replied casually. “You get your son protected, failed or not.”
“I realized I had been too loyal to the Devil all these times because I had no choice. Because with Terrence Clayton, one has no easy way out. But your Boss was the first chance I got to dare make a step opposite to the Devil’s wishes, and I may fail today, but I will not regret standing for justice, hoping my son will be proud I did something worthy before I leave this world,” Donrey smiled sadly. Then he sighed. “We are ten miles from the destination.”
Andrew informed Jack Foster of their distance to arrival. And Jack guided every one of the drivers to stop at a safe distance to arrange their setting like Brianna had in mind. Lucien and Brianna were tied in a similar way; they were bound when they were captured and unconscious. Only similar because, unlike then, their ties were easy to break through. And their weapons were hidden but ready to fire. The only difference this time was Lucien was wearing a bulletproof vest. Hopefully, no one would notice that his shirt was bigger than earlier, although it was of the same color. They had to replace it with a size that would conceal his vest somehow.
It was almost getting dark in the dusk of the day when Donrey drove the car into the gates of Terrence Clayton’s safe house. It was a villa with steel fences and gates surrounding it in the middle of a neighborhood in the downtown area.
It wasn’t obvious to belong to someone as powerful as Terrence Clayton. The villa was like something a family man on the average level in society would own from his earnings and savings.
“Do not fire a weapon unless deadly necessary!” Brianna murmured as she ordered everyone on her team through her mouthpiece as soon as Donrey opened the truck door for the captives to walk down from it.
Donrey reported to his superior, Larry Hill, that he had just arrived due to an upset stomach. The man was startled to receive a call from one of his men, but he quickly answered the phone in the hope that his man had the captives with him in the truck. He realized he was in a truck without the young Michaelson when they arrived, and Terrence Clayton was so furious at him. He was almost beaten to death on the underground floor of Clayton's villa. He had just asked for a chance to answer the phone when it rang, and luckily, Clayton waved his hand in annoyance.
Donrey knew he was driving the truck with the captives, but the man who gave him orders then did not know he mistakenly took the wrong vehicle with him. Now he felt like the doors of heaven opened to save him from dying in Terrence’s hands.
No one doubted Donrey. Larry deliberately abandoned the slightest doubt he had in his mind because Donrey’s news clearly saved him from an unexpected death. He did not see or notice any points to consider doubting because he also had to drive around to get here with safety from the possibility of being traced and caught by the Michaelsons.
