Chapter 162: Chapter 162
Leandro dialed Lucien's phone number, and since the young Michaelson had his phone in his pocket, the sound of it ringing was heard by the leader of his abductors. The man pulled the phone out of his captive's pants pocket and checked the name that flashed on its screen as the caller. The guy gave one of his men a sharp nod, and the man came close to Lucien with a roll of duct tape.
"Keep him quiet!" The leader barked his order to the man with a tape in his hand.
Lucien was tied, and his mouth was taped. Then the leader answered the phone call after walking a few steps away from Lucien. He only pressed the answer button, but he did not say anything.
"Lucien?" Leandro asked in a lively tone, pretending he did not know that he could see on the screen in his control room that it wasn't his grandson that answered the call.
"Luci, my boy," Leandro continued. Jack coached him to keep the call as their diversion to help Blake Gordon reach where Brianna was hiding in the warehouse. "Did you forget what day it is today?" Leandro made his voice sound sad and stern. "Hurry up and get your ass over here. Do you hear me?"
"Keep the call for a minute more, Don Leon," Jack reminded the old Michaelson. "Brianna hasn't confirmed Blake's arrival on her side yet," he explained.
"Oh, by the way, Luci, I need you to drop by the flower shop. Bring me your grandma's favorites, okay?" Leandro was wondering why the person on the other line was not saying anything. If they have their demands, why not tell the grandfather now? He was not worried about Lucien because he could see his condition through the tiny drone that Anna had sent forth to serve as their eye from the inside of the warehouse where Lucien was brought and tied into a chair next to a pillar.
Soon, the man spoke to Leandro.
The man actually knew who he was talking to, based on how the caller spoke on the phone aside from the name that said "Grandpa". He was trying to check if the old Michaelson already knew what had happened to his grandson. But at the sound of his words, the man was doubtful. It seemed like Leandro Michaelson was still unaware that Lucien, his grandson, was in his enemy's hands. He had always known that the Michaelsons are powerful, unbeatable, and like gods, they are all-knowing. How come he speaks like his grandson was just out of his home to do some errands?
"Leandro Michaelson?" He asked.
"Who are you?" Leandro asked back. His tone changed from earlier. This time he sounded fierce.
"I have your grandson," he answered.
"What do you want?" Leandro asked again.
"You," answered the man.
"Ha?! How funny of you," Leandro sneered. "You want me, but you took my boy?"
"Well, we don't play fair," the man scoffed with a breathy laugh of confidence. "You were my first target, but as I have failed, again and again, I sent eyes on all your loved ones. I was open to every chance of taking anyone from among your son, daughter-in-law, grandson, and you," he derided more. "But I finally got your grandson, whom I believe is your weakest spot," the man laughed louder as he mocked Leandro.
"You son of a bitch! I will get you alive and feed you to my wolves," Leandro intentionally made his voice roar to express his anger, also mislead the enemy that the Michaelsons party did not know the whole situation just yet.
They might get to prepare for what is coming on their way if Leandro Michaelson made his enemy know that they already have the rescue mission on standby. Making the enemy believe that Leandro was taken by surprise would make the element of surprise take its full effect.
"Do you even know where we are?" Asked the abductor with contempt in his tone.
"I will find you. I will turn the earth upside down and inside out if I have to," Leandro decisively cut the call. He did not even wait for what the other person in the line still wanted to say. As soon as he got the information from Jack Foster that Blake Gordon was already by Anna's side, and they were about to shoot tear gas on Brianna's signal.
"Blake, we have to get closer to where Lucien is."
"Jack, send our tear gas gun shooters in position. Do not make them step within a hundred-meter distance from the warehouse, am I clear?"
"Clear!" Jack confirmed.
"And no one is to shoot unless I give the go signal!"
"Copy that!"
Brianna made her commands clear and moved quickly to get close to her target, her rescue target, Lucien. She gave signs without sounds to Blake when they got to the pillar where Lucien was tied into. Blake nodded when he understood that Boss B was going to rappel down from the other side of the pillar, the one unseen to the enemy.
The enemies were facing the entrance expecting anyone to come and rescue Lucien would come through that direction. The spot where they kept their captive tied was already next to a wall, dividing the warehouse into another warehouse. They had secured possible entrance. They did not notice one was already dead because Brianna hid the man with a tampon on his wound to avoid excessive bleeding from his bullet wound. Tampons may not stop the bleeding entirely, but they would slow its flow as they absorb the blood and block the bullet hole in the body. It was to avoid attention. The enemy will be alarmed that someone had gotten into their lair if the dead body of one of their men is found lying around.
"Is everyone ready?" Brianna asked Jack. He was the eyes for Brianna to check their men and everyone else, so she also had to confirm if her command should be given right at the moment or not yet.
"We are just waiting for your next command," Jack replied firmly.
Brianna turned to Blake and gave him specific orders.
"I won't be able to speak when I get down there as someone might notice my presence, I will give you a hand sign when to say go, and you tell Jack. Not a second early nor a second late, do you understand?" Brianna spoke to Blake, but she was also aware Jack was listening.
"Yes, Boss," Blake answered with a sharp half bow.
Brianna had to be as close as possible when the commotion starts so she could hand the gas mask to Lucien as soon as possible. She was anticipating the enemy to respond according to their training, but she was not going to take chances that they would neglect Lucien even in such a situation. They will absolutely secure their trump card. They might not shoot Lucien dead, but they might still get pissed and put a bullet in his non-fatal part of the body. So Brianna had her knife in one hand while a silenced UZ gun with forty-five bullets magazine in the other. She considered that these men were not like the local thugs they met at the market. Jack said the man who stands as the leader is under Terrence Clayton's payroll. The possibility of these men having intensive training can never be neglected, they might not be as per Brianna's assumptions, but she won't know that beforehand, so she had to expect for the worse. They might not faint too instantaneously, even without a mask from a tear gas attack.
They might still get to shoot and fight back, and Lucien would be the only person to receive their wrath at an arm's length.
"Jack, now! Go, go, go!" Blake whispered with urgency.
As soon as the sounds of breaking glasses were heard, Brianna quickly cut the tie that bound Lucien to the pillar and pulled him to her side with his hands still tied up. Someone saw what happened to Lucien, and he started firing his gun, but Blake was on the watch, so he also aimed and fired from his position, but the leader of the abductors saw one of his men pointing his gun and fired it once in the direction where their captive was tied up, but he realized the Michaelson was gone. He looked around to check who could have fired the shot that killed one of his men.
He was desperate to get this place alive.
He cannot fail in his mission. He'd better die than return to his superior with a failure! Terrence Clayton is never stingy with rewards when he believes one deserved it, but his wrath is equally fearful. They are aware that their failure will cause not their lives to lose but also their family. They may not get killed, but they will be servants to whatever Terrence Clayton will demand and commands them to do or be in his lifetime because only death will break such an arrangement. Clayton's or the other party involved.
In a brief time, the whole place turned foggy from the gas smoke, but the abductor's leader was able to make eye contact with some of his men who were still sober and waiting for his commands. He signaled to the focus on the pillar where they tied Lucien earlier. Soon a few men started to creep closer to where Brianna and Lucien were curled to the bottom as possible as they could hide.
Seeing the situation, Blake informed Jack and everyone else about it while he aimed and shot the enemy nearing Boss B and the young Michaelson.
"Fuck!" Blake groaned. A bullet almost hit him. "My position has been compromised. I can no longer aim as clearly as earlier. Double time, boys!" he announced and ordered their backup to hurry.
The backup team was from a distance, so they could not reach the warehouse as fast as needed with how things were turning into. Brianna clearly ordered not to step too close for fear of being seen and alarming their enemy.
The leader of the abductors sent his men to get close to their target to have an eye on where the shots were coming from. And from his lying position on the floor to avoid inhaling more gas, he saw gunfire from the ceiling. He shot back while his men continued to get close to the steel pillar. They could not see clearly what was behind it because a large banner with the warehouse's name was on the front side of the pillar, from top to bottom. A reason why they did not notice Brianna rappelling with her head first to the ground from the ceiling.
"You keep an eye on that asshole up there," the leader commanded to one of his men while he signaled the others that were getting closer to where Lucien and Brianna were to follow his lead. He signaled for one man to attack from the other side, and of course, Brianna was quick to defend, but she was caught off guard by a gun pointing at her head behind her back.
"Drop your fucking gun!" The leader ordered Brianna.
It was bait, and Brianna could not have avoided it. She could hear their men approaching, and so she did not hesitate to back down. She was confident they wouldn't be in capture for too long.
But as soon as she dropped her gun, she and Lucien were knocked out.
