Chapter 149: Chapter 149

“You’re not allowed to move on your own. Do you understand?” Brianna reminded Lucien as they were gearing up.

“Yes, boss,” Lucien responded comically.

“I am not kidding,” Brianna clenched her teeth as she spoke with her eyes squinted.

“Come on! Don’t let me bother you, okay? I will be careful and ready,” Lucien kept his smile, but he replied gently.

Brianna was annoyed at herself. She could just do what Lucien said, but it was not settling well with her. She also knows this man is not stupid, but her mind has this silly instinct to protect this man, knowing they are going on a mission. Besides, there is also a good reason to be confident. They were not going into the spot unprepared or blindly. The backup was on standby. The area has been searched, and though there seemed to be a security measure installed and actively used in the house they were going to visit, their team has already dealt with lifting the alarm to make Brianna and Lucien’s entrance unnoticed. The security system was only to alarm the authorities if the house was invaded. No humans were guarding the surroundings, although a few Doberman dogs were without a leash.

“Yeah, I believe you know what you are doing,” Brianna shrugged her shoulders.

“Thank you for believing,” Lucien grinned widely again.

Looking at his face, Brianna wanted to knock her own head. In her eyes, the way she can see it, Lucien is too far from being serious, and it bothered her a lot.

“Let me make myself clear,” Brianna frowned at now busily gearing up Lucien; he was checking his guns as he safely ensured the locks of their holders attached to his body.

“Uhumm,” Lucien casually replied. He lifted his head to look at her, urging Anna to continue what she was about to say.

“You are to take my lead. Am I clear?”

Lucien nodded snappily.

“You are to move when I say it’s a go and wait when I don’t give you any signal, understood?” Brianna added.

“Sir, yes, si…. I mean, ma’am…” Lucien looked silly as he was like a soldier in training with his salute halfway as he realized he shouldn’t address her as sir, but the ma’am also sounded weird. “Fine! Understood!” he exclaimed after battling with his mind and gave up when he saw Anna was starting to get awfully annoyed.

“I am this close,” Brianna held her thumb and index finger close to her eyes with a tiny space left in between the fingers. “To changing my mind, stop annoying me, Lucien Michaelson!” Brianna groaned.

They were not alone. The other teams about to stand back up were also gearing up. But having Anna with them, as they prepared, they all knew when to turn around to give her personal space and privacy when changing clothes.

The lady did not mind, but Lucien did and still does. If they want to stay in their job, these men should know not to offend the young Master. And with Lucien around, he makes sure she is behind a curtain which Lucien would pull to spread wide when needed and avoid tensions with everyone in the same room.

In all of these, Brianna was annoyed at first, but as Lucien would not change no matter what she said, she gave up and let him do what he wanted as long as he didn’t annoy her beyond the limit; Brianna decided to be passive.

Leandro was enjoying to watch what was happening through a screen in his study room; he smiled. He said the same things to Lucien when his grandson insisted on rescuing Anna along with their men. Leandro pretended he did not remember he said those words and hid his smile with a frown.

“Why do her words sound familiar?” He asked, initiating a conversation.

Enzo cleared his throat. He already saw the silly spark in his Master’s eyes, so he knew what to say.

“You must have the same thoughts with Miss Peters. Because I have heard you said the very same words to Young Master last time,” Enzo replied casually.

“Did I?” Leandro feigned denial.

“I wonder if it also means she cares for the Young Master the way boss cares,” Enzo uttered.

Leandro paused and turned his head to look into his assistant’s eyes. What he said made the old Michaelson think deeply.

“Enzo, I think you might just be right,” Leandro smiled widely, then a burst of happy laughter filled the room.

“Boss, it was a thoughtless word. Please forgive me,” Enzo regretted saying such things. It might make his boss hope for something no one could be sure to happen.

“Well, we can see about that,” Leandro sounded confident.

Then a phone rang. Enzo answered the call and handed the receiver to Leandro.

“Boss, the Young Master is on the line.”

Leandro took the call, and still with a chirpy tone, he spoke.

“Luci, my boy, do you need anything else?” the grandfather asked with enthusiasm. It was too noticeable and slightly off to hear since Lucien was actually about to embark on a mission. Was the grandpa happy to send his grandson to battle or what?

“Hrm.. hrm…” Lucien cleared his throat. “Why do I feel like you don’t sound like the usual you?” asked Lucien cautiously.

“What do you mean?” Leandro chuckled.

“Oh, my god! Now you’re even laughing,” Lucien was gobsmacked. “You don’t even sound worried. I am going where I am going and doing what I am doing right now!”

“Oh, yeah, I’m not worried,” Leandro laughed louder and asked again. “Now tell me, what made you call? Aren’t you supposed to leave now?”

Lucien moved the phone a little away from his face and stared at it. He thought his grandpa was weird, but it was not an unsettling kind of weirdness. It was relaxing, actually.

“Yeah, yeah. You’re right. I just called to tell you we’re heading out now and to assure you not to worry,” Lucien replied.

“Go! My boy, break a leg! We need a drink when you return, okay?” the old man cleared his throat and hurriedly added. “Listen to your boss!”

“Sir, yes, sir!” Lucien yelled his response like a soldier, but as he heard his grandpa laugh louder, Lucien also chuckled, only to swallow his laughter when he saw Anna glaring at him.
