Chapter 148: Chapter 148

An hour passed. Their lunch break was over, but Brianna did not make a move to speak with the lady she was assuming was the person she was supposed to meet with in this place today. She had a few messages, but she deliberately did not check on them as soon as they arrived.

"I'm here. Where are you?"

Brianna did not reply.

"You should have told me you weren't coming if so. You don't know how difficult it is for me to move around."

Brianna did not reply either. But she smiled at the message. It somehow confirms her assumptions of who this person was. It would be difficult for someone in a wheelchair to be moving around.

"You don't know how long I have prayed for someone to find me, and here you are. Without even the slightest assurance you are who you say you are, I gathered all courage left in me to come out. But you did not show up."

Brianna asked Jack if he had found anything about the person she asked him to check the background.

"B, this person doesn't seem to exist. She has no file other than a death certificate. According to her file, she died a year after your parents. But her death was unclear; no body was found. She first went missing and was never found. She was declared dead after an unrecognizable corpse was found with her purse found nearby."

Jack Foster reported.

"Any dots we can connect with this person to my dad?" Brianna asked with her wiping Lucien's side of his lips with a tissue as it has some food crumbs on it.

Lucien was enjoying her mindless gesture despite knowing that she was just doing it for a show. This is one thing Lucien enjoys around her when they are together. He might look and seem pathetic that he is happy with such pity called of the moment actions and gestures from Anna, but it tickles his heart that he can have such similarly sensual moments with her.

He did not mind that he looked foolish in everyone else's sight, and he would make use of the chances to act as sweet as a lover when in such luck. Like right now, he also wiped Anna's lips on each side after she was done with his face.

Brianna did not reject Lucien'sreturn of gestures as she was busily listening to Jack on the line.

"So far, there is nothing with the identity we have of her name that came across with your dad's contacts or anyone from his list of names, but we don't know if she used a different name then or if your dad used a code to conceal her for whatever reason. If she is who you think she is, then it would be of great chance the late mister Peters would have made her name untraceable."

Brianna smiled at what Jack had just said. Again it confirms her thoughts about this person. She was unaware of her oblivious actions in front of Lucien. Her smile was like a soft feather that tickled his extremely foolish heart.

Brianna was right in front of Lucien, but she was speaking directly to Jack. Although in the eyes of everyone around them, they looked like a usual couple having lunch, she was actually making plans on what to do later that day.

"Send some people to check the surroundings of her place while she is still in here, and wait until dark. I will give this lady a visit tonight. I will be alone to get inside her home, but I need the coast clear before nightfall."

What she said was heard by Lucien and the word "alone" was like a loud bell that awakened his dreamy moment.

"I need to know that address, too. Jack, send it to me as well," Lucien's voice suddenly turned serious, even though he did not make it show in his face. "I am not sending you there without making things absolutely safe and clear," Lucien firmly declared, although his face was faintly smiling at Anna.

Brianna frowned. She was in deep thought. And as she was thinking, her lips would pout and point if not biting the sides of her lips, one after the other. She was totally unaware of how amusingly she looked to anyone looking and staring at her mien.

"This man won't stop until I agree," Brianna thought as she squinted her eyes, looking intently at Lucien with a calculating stare. Her words were unheard, but Lucien knew such looks already. He was not fazed at all. He was ready to go head to head with her on this one. He cannot let her be in any danger like she had last time. If any knife would be flying, he was prepared to be her shield, no matter what!

They looked like a couple having a silly but silent argument—a cute argument, to put it bluntly.

"You're not letting this one go, aren't you?" Brianna asked Lucien.

"Nope!" Lucien replied with a loud popping sound of the last consonant of the word.

"You're also aware I might shoot you to death if you ever mess with my plans, aren't you?" Brianna asked again.

"Yup!" Lucien replied in the same manner, not even a slight scared despite knowing she was so able to do such a thing to him if he ever annoyed her. "I don't mind. I know you care for me, too. You're just too tough to notice and tougher to admit it!" Lucien smirked as he planted his right elbow on the table and cupped his right cheek with it as he chuckled, looking straight into her glaring eyes.

"Wow! You're lucky I still feel I owe you my life for saving me last time. If not, you won't even get to imagine what I might have done to you already with all this crazy annoyance you have been causing me lately," Brianna mimicked Lucien's smirk.

Brianna was being honest to tell him that she was grateful he came to rescue her in her last mission, where she almost died. The poison was not that dangerous because it was a common kind, with accessible antidotes. Still, if he did not insist on sending a rescue team, Leandro Michaelson might not have sent their army to assist Lucien and save her from a slow, painful death. Wesley did not make it. He was attended but not as prioritized as Anna was during that time. His body did not recover despite the efforts of the medical team, he did not recover, and they found out he had other illnesses that worsened his condition. Brianna was not able to ask him anything because he died without regaining consciousness after pulling the bullets out of his thighs.

"I know," Lucien chuckled. His face showed so much confidence she would never harm him, no matter how annoyed she may get due to his nonsenses.

His brazenness made Brianna suppress a chortle.

"Do you even know what to do when we get into trouble?" Brianna cleared her throat as she asked. "

"Well, I will make sure our men clear the coast for us to walk into," Lucien shrugged his shoulders.

Unknown to Brianna, he had been taking private training with Tatum. He started when she asked for a few days off the grid, investigating things on her own, in aim to satisfy her trust about the Michaelson's who she had been told all her life that they were her enemy and suddenly revealed to her were innocent and had nothing to do with her family's tragedy. Lucien was confident that he could assist her one way or another, or at least he could make himself move as efficiently and helpful as he is supposed to be in missions like this one they are going to do tonight.
