Chapter 139: Chapter 139
When Lucien heard Anna say where she needed to go as for the reason why she wanted to get up, he hurriedly assisted her. Lucien was on Anna's left side, where her wound was on her chest, so her drip was located on the other side of the bed. Lucien walked around the bed, and as he was doing so, he noticed Clark was still standing in the same spot he was all this while.
"What are you still doing here?" Lucien asked with disdain, although he did not stop walking to where he was heading. "I need the new set of bandages and let Nana know we are having breakfast at the table as soon as they get the food ready," he continued to nag at a cramping Clark to leave the room as fast as he could while helping Anna.
"Slowly, please..?"
Anna felt funny.
"Are you injured?" She asked. Her tone could not hide the ridicule it came along with. He was only assisting him, but he sounded like he was feeling hurt by her movements.
"Anna, you are injured. You should move slowly," Lucien patiently replied. The worry was potent in his words, but his
concerns were more invincible to ignore as he spoke, like he could really feel a pain every time she would make a brisk move.
She wanted to tell him this injury was nothing compared to all the wounds she had had over the years. But Brianna could also see it in her mind that even if she said so, it wouldn't calm or comfort his worried mind, so to end the argument, if they are even having one at the moment, she did as he asked. She followed his lead as he helped her get into the adjacent toilet and bath in the room she was occupying.
Lucien was glad that she did not insist on moving all by herself. He wanted to carry her in his arms if only there weren't an intravenous tube attached to her right hand, and it had to be held higher than her heart, so Lucien held the IV stand, pushing it as they walked where she wanted to go. But when Brianna was about to get inside the restroom, he stood in front of the door, like a knight guarding his majesty's chambers, after sending the IV stand in, securely placed next to Anna.
"I'll be right here. Take your time, don't move too rapidly, okay?" Lucien reminded the patient.
Anna was a patient who looked so perfectly fine, despite the fact that her chest wound was slightly bleeding from her unmindful movement when they were awoken by that loud sound of a fallen medical tray. She could walk as normally as before. She could actually do things without difficulty, even on her own. She could only feel a slight pain when she presses on her chest, but if she doesn't do so, she did not have anywhere that ached.
"Can I have my morning rituals in privacy and with peace, sir?" Brianna asked with a forced smile. She did not want to do her toilet business with someone by the door. Lest he would hear whatever she was doing inside, it was bothering her at all.
Lucien did not want to obey this time, but he was also taken aback by the smile her face had shown. It was as if she was warning him. He sighed. They are inside the room. He could watch from a bit of distance to make her feel comfortable. He decided he could run to help her when she opens the door to come out.
"Okay," he agreed, but with another command. "But you have to let me know if you need any help. I will be sitting right there," he pointed at the chair by the wall, where he, Clark, and Jack used to sit while she was unconscious. It was the closest spot he could sit with his eyes towards the toilet door's direction.
"Thank you, sir," Brianna smiled genuinely as he did not make it difficult for her to send him away.
Lucien froze at her smiling mien, saying thanks to him. But before he could even process to realize what made her smile at him so fascinatingly, Anna had already closed the door. And only then did his lips crack into a gleeful smile. He snorted at his foolishness. He felt foolish for not returning Anna's smile when she did. Now that she had closed the door, he was smiling to its leaf, unseen to the person he should be smiling at.
"Stupid!" he knocked his head as he walked to the spot he told Anna he would be. Thinking how rare it happens, he should have responded positively. What if she does not smile at him ever again, thinking he did not return the gesture fairly? Lucien sat on the chair with his eyes to the door but with his elbows leaning on his thighs and his hands on his head, fisting his hair in frustration and annoyance.
"What's wrong?" Clark asked, startling Lucien, who jumped a little on his seat.
Lucien was busily thinking while staring at the door where he knew Anna was, and he did not notice Clark walking into the room and was now sitting beside him.
Clark chuckled at Lucien's reaction.
"What?!" Lucien sneered.
He felt his annoyance with Clark return as soon as he saw the mocking smile plastered on the young doctor's face.
"I have been asking you what's wrong, but you look dazed," Clark chuckled even more. "So I was wondering what's wrong, or...? Did you annoy Anna again?"
"None of your business!" Lucien defensively retorted.
Clark could not help his laughter bursting, yet in suppressed manner. He figured Anna was in the washroom, and she might come out any time. He was scared of being misunderstood by his laughter again. Then he looked at the medical tray Clark had brought in placed on the coffee table in front of them both. He sighed, and his eyes returned to where they were fixed looking at earlier. "Have you told Nana about the breakfast?" He asked in a calmer tone.
"Yeah, she might get in her in twenty minutes or so," Clark replied with astonishment. He wasn't expecting Lucien to back down so easily. The doctor chuckled again, and Lucien was about to say something when he heard a door make a sound, opening or not, not even sure where the sound was coming from, but his eyes flew to where he knew Anna would be walking out from. He was right by the door even before it opened wide for Anna to drag the IV bag stand out of the bathroom.
