Chapter 138: Chapter 138
Brianna was nonchalant in all of what was happening. She did not care about Lucien's reaction to the looking aggrieved doctor. But she did not stop Lucien, and she did not stop the doctor when he turned around, even with a sad face. Lucien carefully checked the wound, and unsurprisingly it was bleeding.
"We need to change the bandage and sanitize your wound," Lucien announced to Anna gently, but it changed to a firm and stern tone when he spoke again, looking up to speak in Clark's directions. "Please send someone to bring a new set of everything we need to dress her wound again, Doctor Jacobs."
The young doctor was flabbergasted at how Lucien's pitch of speech would dramatically change when he speaks to Clark compared to when he says something or anything to Anna. He turned around to glare at Lucien, but he quickly turned about-face when he saw Lucien's eyes were shooting daggers, flaming daggers, directly to his face. Clark blinked his eyes a few times rapidly as he could not believe what he was seeing.
"Wow, double-faced!" Clark murmured his reaction. He was not brave enough today them out loud in fear of being in deeper trouble with this bipolar side of his best friend. All he could do was clenched his teeth as he confirmed he understood the order Lucien just said.
"I will be right back...!" Clark stated with a formality coated with detest as he pouted only to hear Lucien's annoying voice again as the latter remembered Anna had to eat her breakfast.
"Also, tell Nana what she should prepare for Anna's breakfast," Lucien added before Clark could even take a step from his spot.
"Anything else, young Master Lucien?" Clark spoke with unconcealed sarcasm.
"There are more; wanna hear all of them at once?" Lucien replied, sneering at Clark as his friend seemed to enjoy annoying the whipped young Michaelson, unaware that he himself was upsetting the other person in his teasing manner, making them book look childishly annoying each other right before Brianna's eyes.
"Can we eat at the table?" Brianna asked cautiously.
The two were startled at her request. But for Clark, it was not bad; it would actually be good for the patient to start moving around so she could regain her strength soon and recover to usual. Her wound is on her chest; it wouldn't get strained much if she moved around. Even a woman who had a caesarian section for delivery is advised to get up and walk around within the first twelve hours after delivery; compared to her chest wound, Clark could say the idea was not bad or wrong.
But Lucien was unaware of such things, so his initial reaction was to disagree.
"Anna, you still have to recover. I can ask Nana to bring the food over here," Lucien argued gently.
Clark rolled his eyes. There goes that softie in Lucien again. But when the word "softie", Clark could not help but subconsciously smile.
Anna noticed Clark and his smile, so she stared at the doctor. Lucien followed the direction of Anna's gaze and saw that silly smile on his friend's annoying face.
"What's so funny?" Lucien asked with his jaw clenched. The muscles in his jawline showed how fiercely he was clenching his teeth.
Clark was startled at the way the two, Anna and Lucien, were fiercely looking at him. He was like a rabbit caught in a corner before two ferocious beasts. And the beasts are soon to devour him, alive!
"Ahhh, hmmmm... nothing." Clark could not even form a word at how he was suddenly frightened at their gaze at him. He cleared his throat. "I was going to say, ahhmmm..."
"What?" The two asked in unison. They were making Clark even more nervous about speaking.
Brianna was annoyed at how the doctor was smiling; there wasn't anything funny as per Brianna's understanding; it felt like he was mocking her or something. She did not like it. So she was waiting for his answer, but he seemed to provoke her more by not stating his response right away.
Lucien, on the other hand, was guessing his friend was making fun of him, so he wanted to know what Clark was smiling about. Clark is not someone to pull a prank on Lucien so often, so it strikes Lucien when he does, annoying Lucien so much.
"I was just going to say, it's okay for Anna to have her breakfast at the table if she wants to," Clark's nervousness stiffened his facial muscles and made him look funny.
"He's a doctor, right?" Asked Brianna, looking at Lucien with her right hand pointing towards Clark.
Lucien nodded his head hesitantly, yet his motion confirmed Brianna's thoughts and answered her queries.
"Then I would like to have that breakfast at the table if you're still offering me to eat," Brianna said as she moved the blanket spread above her when she was asleep. She started to move down the bed.
"Alright, alright!" Lucien slackened, submitting to her wishes. He was startled when he saw her looking like she was about to stand from her bed. "Let's get your wound attended first, okay?"
Lucien gently spoke as he tried to hold Anna down on her sitting position on the bed.
"I want to go to the restroom," Brianna reasoned out, looking straight to Lucien.
She wanted to be mad as he seemed to be restraining her from moving according to her will, but he looked so worried. Brianna could not snap at him despite her building annoyance. Controlling her temper, she composed herself, and with a casual tone, she made her reasons known to Lucien. She still managed to tell him what she wanted to do, something she was not used to doing. Because no one dares to stop her, even Jack, he can only try his luck, but they are all judged to be of crucial instances that he would insist on what he thinks is best for her. And Jack can only count those times by the fingers in his single hand. That is how rare. His boldness might have already brought him harm had it been someone else.
