Chapter 137: Chapter 137
After thinking for a while, Brianna also dozed off. It was almost the break of dawn when she let her busily thinking mind rest. And while she was asleep, Lucien came to see her before the roosters crowed in the morning. Lucien was tired, and he fell asleep as soon as he laid his head on his pillow back in his room when Anna sent him to rest, but he woke up after a few hours of peaceful slumber. He was glad that she was asleep when he arrived in the room because he was worried that she would have sent him out again.
Brianna had just started to drift off to dreamland when Lucien came, and so, she was dead asleep. It must have been due to tiredness, along with the effect of the medicine that had won her over to a state of mind and body where her consciousness was practically suspended. She did not notice someone was watching her, right in front of her. Had it been any other time and situation, even with how careful Lucien made his way into the room, Brianna would still have noticed. Unlike now.
Lucian, on the other hand, was satisfied to see her recovering well. Her complexion was almost back to normal. She was no longer pale like the last time he saw her. She was looking better. He realized that it was really good that Jack came around. His idea to assist Anna to recover speedily was indeed helpful and practically effective.
Lucien was hoping, with all his heart, that Anna I would stand on her feet soon. He keenly watched her with a faint smile on his lips as he sat beside the bed. He was thinking about how he could help her one way or another, knowing she had a tragic memory of her parents' death. Lucian was determined to give her a hand, on and in, whatever she may need, or however she may need them. He has heard what Jack Foster and his Grandpa Andy had said about what happened to her in the past and how she lived her life until now.
It breaks his heart. If wishes do come true, he only has one desire. That is for Anna to have lived a happy life, from her childhood till now. But Lucien knew there are no such things as a wishing tree or wishing well, where he can fold his hands and pray or throw a coin to have his wishes granted. He just hoped to have the most refined wisdom to make himself fit in her world. And he prays to all gods and deities to let Anna accept his offer of assistance, but most of all, make her believe in his sincerest desire to protect and be her man.
Whatever the price, he is willing to do anything at all costs.
He is ready. Damn, even if it endangers him!
Sitting on the chair, leaning his head above his folded arms on the side edge of Anna's bed to the right, Lucien fell asleep while watching Anna sleep and listening to her soft breathing. The room was filled with serenity as the two shared a patient and guardian rest.
Around six in the morning, the nurses came around to check on the patient. Clark Jacobs also came along with the medical staff. But Brianna and Lucien were fast asleep. All of the staff did their best not to make a sound even when they exchanged glances with silly smiles plastered on their faces at the sight they had witnessed arriving at the patient's bed.
Lucien was leaning his head as to how he fell asleep, but Brianna's right hand was atop Lucien's nape, with its palm cupping his neck from the side to the back. She was as if a mother hen, protecting its chick under her wings. They moved as quietly as possible and as much as they could. No one dared to giggle; they were all biting their lips to suppress any sound they might make and wake the two sleepyheads. But as they were about to get out of the room, one of the nurses dropped the stainless tray in her hand, and it made a surprisingly loud sound. All the members of the medical team inside the room froze. Everyone's eyes widened, breathings were on hold, and like they all have the same mind, they all turned their heads towards the bed.
To everyone's surprise, the two were awake. Well, who wouldn't be? The sound of the stainless tray echoed for a good couple of ten seconds before the nurse was able to pick it up from the ground and hug it to her chest.
"What the hell is going on?" Lucien's deep and hoarse voice replaced the loud sound.
Lucien was mad. Unaware of how he and Brianna looked at the moment.
Clark quickly moved to the side of the bed, opposite to where Lucien was, but also next to Anna.
"Anna, please...?" Clark politely asked the patient to release Lucien.
Brianna was still dazed, and she glared at the doctor, still trying to wrap her understanding on what was going on.
"It's okay. It was just a tray that accidentally dropped by one of the nurses," Clark explained. "Can I have a look at your wound?" Clark gently asked.
Brianna's reflexes responded to the sudden sound as a stimulus, and without conscious thought, she sat up from her bed. With Lucien already in her right hand's hold, she subconsciously embraced his head, which had turned to the direction where the sound came from, to her chest—making it look like she was holding a head of watermelon to her chest, overprotectively.
Brianna loosened her grip on Lucien's head and was about to do as Clark had asked when Lucien stood abruptly.
"I don't want the same mistake to ever happen again, understand?" Lucien turned to face the medical team with a stern tone and scary warning mien.
"Yes, sir," everyone replied with their eyes to the ground.
"Now, get out of here before I fire all of you," Lucien did not even yell, but the ferocity in his voice was immensely expressed. And only dumb would not take heed to it. The concerned people hurriedly left the room.
But Clark stayed. Lucien glared at him.
"How can one be a nurse and not even get to hold a tray properly? Disturbing a patient in her rest," Lucien snarked at Clark.
The doctor was speechless. It wasn't his fault. Why is this grumpy beast barking at him? But before Clark could even say a word, Lucien commanded again.
"You turn around. I will check her wound," Lucien declared with finality.
