Chapter 136: Chapter 136
Jack continued.
"I will dig deeper. I will try to investigate as far as I can, get to the bottom of all of these as soon as possible. I will collect information as more as I can provide. And I will let you know everything about it. According to General Lockwood, your parents' case is not something so light. He also tried to investigate. He had been looking all over for you. It had been a puzzle for him why he could not find a 5-year-old girl who went missing right after her grandparents died? He said he even widened the range of their search for you, from that village to the whole city to the whole state and also to the whole region. But he couldn't find you," Jack spoke seriously as he also tried to listen to himself and analyze any possibilities of point or hint that they have been missing to notice.
"The general doubted that you did not leave on your own because if you did so, you would have been captured by surveillance cameras around each and every corner which you may have passed by. But he didn't find you," Jack paused for a breath and continued again.
"Until yesterday, when I saw them playing a video clip of you sending a warning message to your known enemy in person, where they also saw Charles Anderson. I saw the sincerity in his eyes- the passion for helping you. He looks like he was indebted to you. And he wanted to return that favor. He wanted to find justice for your parents. He wanted to ask what you could remember. But it had been too long. He also fears he might not recall anything. But when I told him Charles Anderson raised you, and he saw the face of the name I mentioned, he yelled out a Lawrence Duncan name. Now I'm going to investigate that name, as well. If my father is Charles Anderson, then who is Lawrence Duncan? I have to find out. I need to find out. This is like hitting two birds in one stone. We will find who my father is, and we will find who tried who did these horrible things to your family."
Brianna made a mental note of everything Jack had mentioned. As she was still recovering, she could use this time to process and solve the puzzle in her mind. If Leandro Michaelson had anything to do with her parents' death, Brianna was sure the old Leon would never send his only grandson to a warzone to save a mere bodyguard. Not only that, if Leandro really had anything to do with her family's tragedy, she wouldn't be safe in the walls of a Michaelson's villa. There are so many ways to end her life, but she was still alive.
That clear fact bothered Brianna so much. She might have to hurry to get better, so she could dig more information and hunt the real wolves who slaughtered her family.
Jack's voice was heard again.
"Now, all you have to do is take a rest. Speed up your recovery. And join us in finding answers to every question that we have. You have to help us dig and turn every stone possible. We have to get to the bottom of this. General Lockwood said there must be someone behind these things from higher personalities. Because as he tried to investigate further, all files in the system were gone. At first, it only stated confidentially, and only people with higher authorities had access to it. But as years went by, General Lockwood said it was no longer there the last time he checked. The data was empty. The case file was there, but there was nothing inside it. It was as if it had been erased—no trace of what happened. No evidence. No interview. Investigation reports. No nothing," Jack clenched his teeth as he stated.
Jack also told Brianna that he would check every information. Their validity and authenticity for Brianna to know and help her see things through. Briana has to analyze what she has to understand. Jack also reminded Brianna about the possibilities of Leandro Michaelson being framed and being used for Brianna to focus and pour her anger to. And that the possibility of Leandro Michaelson having nothing to do with her parents' death weighed heavier.
"Okay, I'll let you know what I think about everything in the morning. I have to think things through and analyze this information; see if they connect or make sense." Brianna informed Jack.
"Thanks, Jackie!" Brianna uttered weakly.
"No, B, thanks for staying alive. You don't know how much it means to me," Jack emotionally replied.
Brianna smiled faintly. This man is so emotional for someone with a weak heart.
"You have a good rest yourself; I need you healthy," she groaned, feigning annoyance.
Jack chuckled at her response.
"I am so happy you're back, and I will collect for the days you made me worry like hell when you get back on your feet, fully recovered," Jack gave her a word of warning.
It is a card he would pull out on her when she seems to be out of his reach, no way to get in touch with her to send help or rescue or anything. Jack would panic, worry and fret about anything and everything. It seems taboo for Jack not to have the slightest clue of B's whereabouts.
"Yeah, alright. Get some rest before I leave this place and find you to strangle you, okay?" Brianna murmured. She spoke without hurry as if she meant every word of her threat. Then she cut the line.
Brianna stared at the ceiling. Various thoughts were occupying her mind.
"Jack might just be right," she thought silently. "If Leandro Michaelson had anything to do with what happened to my family, he would never let me get this close to his grandson.
"He would never let his only grandson go into the battlefield if he knew the purpose was to rescue me. I also doubt he did not know about what Lucien was about to do going to a warzone," Brianna sighed.
She could not lull herself to sleep with all the crazy thoughts in her mind. She also recalled how Lucien had saved her life from a bullet at the restaurant's parking lot they went to have lunch one day.
They seemed to be saving one another's life. How can she be thoughtless to blindly run after someone for revenge when she is actually being played like a stupid fool.
