Chapter 129: Chapter 129
It must have been due to the medication Brianna was given to assist her body to recuperate; she woke up while everyone was asleep. She could only see Lucien as Clark and Jack were seated by the wall next to the door, a direction not visible in her laying on the bed position. Had she been laid slanted on the bed, she might have noticed the two men leaning their head back to the backrest of their sofa chair, silently asleep facing her soles as she was on the bed. They all seemed to be cautious not to make any snoring sound as they were mentally aware there was a patient in the room. Well, Clark only snores when he is physically exhausted, like after long hours or medical surgery procedure he would do, but he doesn't snore when he is not so tired. Lucien is the same. Jack, on the other hand, does not snore at all. His weak heart restrains him from doing extraneous work, so he has never felt exhausted physically. He is more mentally drained at times; still, he sleeps quietly.
Brianna saw she had an intravenous drip on her left hand. Lucien was on her right side. She tried to recall what had happened. The last person she saw in her memory before she fainted was Lucien. She stared at his sleeping form sitting on a sofa chair with a wide backrest, half-circle design, and his head was prominently leaning on it.
Unsees from Brianna's view, Lucien rolled a small towel and placed it behind his neck to support his head as he leaned on the chair's headrest to keep his sight fixed on her until his eyelids grew heavy and he fell asleep.
She tried to move but she found it difficult because her chest was painful. Her hand subconsciously moved to touch the aching part. It was covered with a dressing. She moved little by little to lean her back to the bed's headboard. Her moves were too soft and slow, adjusting to the pain her body was feeling at her every attempt to sit up, and she made it after about ten minutes. A move she could have done in a second when in her normal condition took her ten minutes this time.
Brianna shook her head. Getting poisoned is never fun! But it had only been a few hours, and the antidote must have worked well. In her experiences, some poisons do not have a cure, and they are the more deadly ones. Using such tricks on hunting, the hunter would usually prepare something to suppress the poison from spreading rapidly. But those meds would only suppress the spread; they don't really stop the problem or solve it.
And there are times when even after a suppressant is taken and the poison still continues to spread after a while without the proper solution or medication, it is still deadly.
She wanted to see the wound, to check how the healing process was going. She carefully ripped the tapes on the bandage, but she could not help hissing.
"Anna?" Lucien worriedly called when he heard her sound of being in pain. But he panicked when he saw what she was trying to do. "What are you doing?" Lucien whispered. He did not want his voice to sound like he was nagging at her, but he moved closer to sit on the bed, trying to stop Anna from moving. She used her right hand with the drips needle while the left was immobile. She felt pain when her muscles were strained to her left shoulder, arms, and chest, so she used her right.
"I need to see the wound," Anna replied without even looking at Lucien. She already saw him wake up when he called her name. But her eyes went back to her chest wound.
"Wait, let me help you," Lucien did not have the heart to stop her. And he knew she was unstoppable, so he better help her. He pulled a drawer next to the bed and checked if there was anything that could be useful. And he saw nothing. On the table was the small flashlight Jack used earlier to check on Anna's wound, so he picked it up and used his phone camera as a mirror to let Anna see her injury.
"Here, use this," Lucien handed Anna the phone with its camera to the front while he held the light to n point it on her wound.
Anna received the phone without a word and checked on her wound. Lucien was feeling awkward that she was opened the top buttons of her shirt, unlike how Lucien let Jack check on it earlier. He tried to avoid looking at her chest; her breast did not show, actually. Still, Lucien did not want to offend her in any way, so he intentionally avoided it.
"Lights," Anna reminded Lucien as it wasn't pointing to where it was supposed to be. "If you are going to help, then do it properly."
She was so carefree that a man was right in front of her as she checked her chest wound. It was as if this was a very normal occurrence, and Lucien was acting weird. Lucas was astonished at how she was demanding him to focus and dare look at her in that part of her body. But what caught Lucien more abashed was the fact that Anna was almost behaving as if they were of the same gender!
Lucien swallowed his spit. He tried to do as she ordered but his eyes would look away instinctively, and Anna would complain again.
"Hello!? Lights?!" Anna annoyedly glared at Lucien.
"What's going on?" Asked Jack from a distance, waking up Clark in the process.
"Luci, do you need help?" Clark hurriedly stood from his seat to assist. Jack also jumped from his seat when he realized Anna might have wakened up.
But they were abruptly stopped.
"Don't move! Both of you, not even a step closer," Lucien fiercely ordered.
Jack and Clark looked at each other and silently asked. Words did not even get to slip out of their lips. Only their eyes conveyed "What the hell is going on?"
"I am a doctor," Clark argued.
"Do you think I don't know that?" Lucien clenched his teeth as he glared at Clark. But he was startled when Anna spoke.
"Are you a doctor? Please come over here," Anna's voice was soft and only the one close to her could clearly hear.
Lucien hurriedly disagreed. But he made sure the two men behind them got his message clearly through his dagger eye glances. Then he turned to Anna.
"Okay, okay, I'll do it," Lucien held the flashlight properly to make Anna check her wounds according to her satisfaction.
