Chapter 125: Chapter 125
"It might have been an Atropine. A kind of medication that is used to treat certain kinds of nerve agents, it effectively blocks the effects of an organic chemical that functions in the brain and body. But we cannot be sure it was the exact antidote to the poison on the blade that stabbed her; it may only be able to delay the poison from spreading in her bloodstream. And we will only be sure after it is tested," Jack replied with extreme fear.
Everyone in the room felt the same fear as Jack Foster.
"What do we do then?" Lucien asked in a grave panic.
"Poisons can be flushed out of the body system; we need to hydrate her as much as possible," Jack replied again. Then he looked at Lucien. "I need to see her wound," Jack said.
Lucien glared at Jack.
"It's already cleaned and bandaged," Lucien spoke with his jaw clenched.
"I know, still, I need to see her wound," Jack insisted.
"No, you can't," Lucien firmly declined.
"Turn around if you don't want to see me doing so," Jack was not fazed.
Lucien was on the other side of the bed where Jack was. Had the man just right beside him, Lucien might have landed his fists on his looking-arrogant face already. He was also wary of helping Anna get better, but in Lucien's opinion, this Jack did not have to see Anna's flesh. Her wound was right above her left breast; she was not wearing any brassiere since she was a patient, and it would be unnecessary to her healing and recovery.
"Enzo, get me a pair of scissors," Lucien spoke with his eyes deadly fixed on Jack Foster.
Jack frowned at Lucien's command, not to him, to Enzo, but still, he was blown by the thought that this young Michaelson was thinking about cutting Brianna's clothes just right where she had the wound for Jack to check.
"I don't know if I should tell you this, but..." Jack cleared his throat before he continued. I have actually seen her naked, more than the count of your fingers."
"Shut up! That may have been the case before, but not anymore!" Lucien growled in anger.
Jack did not mean to brag and annoy Lucien; he wanted the young Michaelson to realize that it was no difference between Jack and the medics personnel to attend to her wounds. But his words led Lucien to understand that he was bragging, and Lucien hated it to think that Jack, a man, had seen Anna's body. Whether for good or whatever reasons.
Enzo returned to the room with Lucien's requests and handed them to the young Master. Andy and Leandro were silently observing the two.
The two elders did not say anything, but they almost had the same thoughts. They were trying to read Jack Foster's every move as well as his facial expressions. They realized that Jack was sincere in his every word. His concerns for the patient were pure and genuine. But Enzo was still unconvinced. In his understanding, this man, Jack Foster, could be lying, and they have no way to confirm his words until Anna wakes up. Enzo thinks Jack might only be playing the words of being a brother and sister by heart through showing such fake emotions to fool them in front of a still asleep patient.
Part of Jack's words seemed to be true and acceptable, but in this case, it is the irony of the words, giving room for doubts; Enzo did not want to give his trust entirely to this stranger, no matter what!
"There." Lucien declared. Then he moved to sit next to Anna's head above a pillow.
Jack's eyes widened at how difficult it would have been to cut Brianna's clothes with such accuracy to make the bandages visible. But in respect to Brianna being unconscious with a few men surrounding her in the room, Jack did not argue with Lucien's idea.
"Thanks," Jack murmured. Then he moved closer to Brianna. He carefully peeled the bandage off of her, and with the use of the flashlight Enzo handed him, he carefully checked on her wound.
"Do you know how deep did the knife get into her?" Jack asked again.
"Less than two inches, but it hit a rib. Fortunately, the throw wasn't at full strength," Lucien told Jack everything the medics had told him on their way as they gave Brianna the assistance they could manage.
"Please call your doctors, she needs more than just hydration," Jack panicked when he saw Brianna frowning in her sleep, sweating profusely but in great pain. Jack knew that Brianna only reacts to extremes, conscious or not, and with how she was looking apple and frowning, he was sure his little sister was just too weak to speak of her torment.
Enzo did not need to be told; he went out to get the medical team. He also called Lucien's best friend Doctor Jacobs and asked him to come over as soon as possible.
"I will send a ride to get you. They can wait for you downstairs till you're ready," Enzo stated with urgency. He agreed with Jack'slast statement; Anna needs more than just drips to recover.
Soon the room became busy with the medical team men who were still on standby, knowing they had patients in the villa, Blade and Anna. Their assistance will be in constant need.
The two elders, Leandro and Andy, decided to leave the room and give space for the professionals to assist Anna. Lucien and Jack stayed. One was the guardian, while the other was like the guide on how to make Brianna feel better according to his known facts and knowledge.
"Doc, did you know what kind of poison was in the weapon?" Jack asked as soon as he knew who to inquire among the people that came.
"It's a snake venom, and we can help her with antidotes, but..." the doctor glanced at Lucien.
"Do it," Lucien interrupted. "And do it quickly!"
"Yes, sir, thank you," the medical practitioner was thankful that he could do his job. He was a doctor, his sworn oath was to save lives, but he was also subjected to follow orders. They could not do their will even if it meant helping genuinely.
The team did just like Lucien has commanded. They knew exactly what to do as if they were hoping the young Michaelson would change his mind and call for them to help the patient the way she should be assisted professionally in terms of medicine, for a speedy recuperation.
"She told me not to allow any medications as they may interfere with her recovery, but Mister Foster here cleared that statement, so here we are," Lucien explained as he held Anna's right hand by the fingers. It was his way of apologizing for disobeying her orders, and he will take any consequences later if she deems to collect. What matters most right now is her quick and healthy recovery.
"Thanks, Jack!" Lucien could not deny he was indeed grateful Jack cleared such a fact to avoid unnecessary sufferings on Anna's side. She was weak; even if she was sure she would get through the most challenging part of her recovery, it was still reassuring to know that she was not going through so much pain.
"All for B, we are all after her welfare, so I also want to thank you," Jack replied. The two were standing side by side. "I am sure her team would also be grateful knowing you run into the battlefield instead of them to save her. I, myself, am beyond grateful because I could never make such bold moves with the limits of my capabilities, but you did."
Jack extended out his right hand with an open palm to shake hand with Lucien.
"Thank you," Jack sincerely uttered.
Lucien was glad to see the sincerity in Jack Foster's aura that he did not hesitate to receive his hand and shook it with enough firmness, expressing his pleasure.
"And thank you for always being by Anna's side all these years."
