Chapter 15: Chapter 15
" I don't understand. what are you suggesting?
" Like a backer and should we fail to impress them, they're free to take the company back" Kate offered certain Carla Lorenzo will do anything to save her mother's legacy.
" Will that work?
" Yeah. Get back to work. Tell me if I'm needed" she stated then ended the call.
Alvin's refusal to sign the divorce papers had her thinking. Did he find her out already? She hasn't begun her revenge yet.
She stood up from the chair pacing. She needed evidence of his infidelity though she was certain he had hers.
Dignity didn't matter to her at the moment. She wasn't there to stay after all. As long as her family believed her she was contented.
Then her phone rings
" Yes? She said into the phone in distaste massaging her brows.
" Hello, sis. I'm at the airport. I'm sorry for not calling sooner but mom was getting worried about you. Call me Louis" came the voice message as she shrieked in fear dialing his numbers as soon as possible.
" Louis? She called as he picked.
" Where should I head to? I assume you don't live with Alvin anymore" she ran a hand through her short curls.
" Simon's resort.. I'll be waiting maybe I should send a driver your way. Wait up" she suggested almost rambling.
" No need. I can find my way. It's not my first time here" she scrunched her face in confusion.
" What do you mean?
" Nevermind. It'll see you in a bit"
" I'll text you my address. I can't believe you didn't inform me before leaving Mandeville" she complained wondering how she was going to tell him the truth.
" You know why. We'll talk when I see you" he stated like a man then it occurred to her that he was a grown man, not the little boy she knew. Just how much did she miss?
" Alright. Be careful, please. See you soon" she said as he ended the call.
She ran out of the resort to wait for him.
The divorce trial was a night away. Alvin made it possible. He could wait to shove it in her face.
A black and white car entered the compound which piqued Kate's attention as she walk towards it to find her little brother who wasn't so little anymore.
Before her, was a six-foot-five height of a man with jet-black hair in a grey short sleeve and trouser Looking handsome and hot. She smiled as he walked closer to her engulfing her in a long comfy hug.
" It's nice seeing you, Kate. I have missed you" Kate sniffled as she wrapped her hands around him possessively.
" Me too. It hasn't been easy without you guys. I'm sorry Louis. I couldn't come home not until I'm certain of my future she sniffled then disengaged from the hug staring into his matching eyes.
" I'm so happy to see you. Look at you. Let's go inside. Don't worry about the bags" she urged leading him in while the hoteliers unpacked his bags.
" How is Mom doing?
" She's fine. She has resumed work though Mr. Reagan tried to stop her. She wouldn't listen to anyone except you" the part about Alvin's visit to her home intrigued her as she asked for more info.
" What do you mean? Alvin took care of mom despite everything he did to me?
" Yup. We didn't want him to know about our communication so we pretended though he said nothing. I liked him you know" Kate poked him offended by it.
" I mean you were so in love with him. You chose him over us' Kate stopped walking.
" I didn't choose Alvin over you and mom. I got married to a foreigner who lived miles away from our home. When will you forgive me?
" Perhaps when you prove those years weren't wasted. You can always have another child. Alvin Reagan has done a lot for our family. Mom's two kidneys are his. The house we live in, my tuition fee? Your transformation. We should worship him if nothing else" he upset Kate with his obnoxious remarks thus she glared at him.
" I never requested for any. Louis, don't talk about that bastard to me. He killed our son? A child we were looking forward to having. There's nothing dreadful than that" she snapped swiping her cards while they entered a deluxe suite.
" I'm a man Kate and I'm saying the truth. Wanna talk to mom? She's eager to see you" Kate scratched her hair averting her eyes from his face to the painting on the wall.
" Kate, what's going on?
" I don't want her to see me like this. Tell her I said hi"
" What's wrong? When will you start letting people take care of you? Let me take care of you as you did me. We're your family not your burden. Yes, dad left us, yes we grew up without him. No regrets. Don't make it a priority to substitute for him. We're better without him. I know Mom wasn't but she's used to it. Talk to me"
" Louis, you won't understand. I didn't marry Alvin out of gratitude or for the money. I married him because he was nothing like our father. I wasn't expecting him to fall for me. I thought he wanted me because I gave him a tough time but he did more than that. Perhaps I was too naive to notice it then he changed a few days after our wedding. I tried to be considerate. I tried my best. heaven knows I tried. I just couldn't take it anymore. I lost it. I allowed anger and bitterness to consume me. I tried Louis. It just didn't work out and when it finally did, my world crumbled leaving me in total darkness. I'm empty inside. I'm afraid Mom will realize it with just a glance. I don't want that. I'll call her alright" she finished as Louis sniffled sobbing bitterly like a girl.
She scrunched her face confused pulling him into a hug.
" You're not happy? You were never happy with him yet you tolerated everything. I'm so sorry for being inconsiderate "
" It's okay. I did that. I wanted to experience love. I guess I fell for the wrong person. Don't blame yourself. It's in the past. C'mon Louis. I'm fine. I mean I will be" she promised him still consoling him.
At the right were Alvin and his lawyer with no one in the courtroom particularly while Kate and Eden were seated on the left with no witnesses either.
The court magistrate entered the courtroom with the jury then the hearing began.
" Case 12456899; divorce case by Kate Patterson will begin now" they announced as the magistrate turned to them.
" Mr. Reagan, do you accept her request?
" This isn't a request. She knows where to find me when she's ready. I'm not signing those papers"
' yes you will or the court will do it for you. What kind of a game is this Alvin? You've numerous mistresses swarming after you. Leave me alone. I'm tired of your freaking self" he banged his hands on the table.
" So that you can sleep with every man that says hello like you've been doing for the past four years? It's not happening'
' you're the bastard whoring around. Your honor, I'm done with this marriage. I'm done with Alvin Reagan" she declared glaring at him.
" Mr. Reagan?
" She's not getting a divorce from me until she learns some manners" he replied staring dead at her.
" Mrs. Reagan. Care to explain what warrants your decision? Alvin's lawyer asked skeptically.
She searched for the right words to say but found nothing besides his numerous flings which she had no proof of.
" Your honor, I'm tired of being his wife. Four years apart has proven it and he has moved on. I want to do the same. He's been cruel by withholding the divorce case. I have the right to decide who I want to be with. He's evil and mean. I cannot be with a man that doesn't want me. Believe me, the feeling is mutual" Alvin leaned on the chair watching her rants about him, and sneered aggrieved but said nothing.
' My client has a right to annul her marriage if it isn't to her expectations" Eden added thus the judge turned to Alvin who had a murderous look on.
" Is this true Mr. Reagan?
" That's not a question. I'm not granting this bitch divorce to flirt around. She's going to be married to me till I say otherwise"
" The hell you will bastard" Kate yelled on her feet as Eden calmed her down urging her to sit but she refused.
' you should have thought of that before you killed Simon"
" I didn't kill our son" he stood too defensively.
" Perhaps you think the worst of me by assuming so. I wanted a son just as bad as you did. I loved him more" he declared shouting at the top of his voice.
" By sending your hoodlums after me? The truck collided with our car. We all could have died, you wanted us dead. Your honor, I don't want such a man as my husband. How I hate him" he gritted his teeth itching to shut her mouth.
" You were too busy whoring around to notice how much I loved you " he declared. The words had left his mouth before he knew what he meant.
" Who did I whore around with? How many times did you cheat on me, Alvin? You're a hypocrite" she stated ignoring his statement. She wasn't in the mood to fall for his pranks.
" You heard me right. You're a whore. I'm not setting you free until you come begging. Dante's death didn't change the fact that you slept with him while under my roof. You slut"
" I advise you to respect my client" but the magistrate didn't think so. He wanted to know everything.
" Is this true Mrs. Reagan?
" I'm not answering that. He is diabolical"
" Mr. Reagan, do you have proof?
