Chapter 12: Chapter 12
It was a new day thus Carla put up the open sign in the diner only to see Kate standing outside peering at the diner.
She frowned wondering what she wanted from her after everything she has done.
She may be broke and jobless especially without her company that doesn't mean she was going to help her though she made a promise to Dante before he died to stand by her.
The cold feet were because she feared Alvin might attack them again with the little they have. It's a good thing her husband was a reliable man.
That's why she ignored her by twirling the open sign to a closed one yet Kate didn't leave instead she knocked at the door expecting her to open up.
Having a brother herself she could understand why she hated her but she wasn't responsible for it.
" Go away, Kate. Dante is dead. You're not welcome in my family' she snapped wiggling her fingers at her.
" Just hear me out. I just want to talk to Carla. I want to help" she stated letting her feelings show to be convincing enough.
Carla was meant to be a CEO of an award-winning company, not some godforsaken diner. It was their mother's legacy. She wanted nothing more than to help retrieve it. That is if she'll let her as she wasn't the persistent type anymore.
" I don't need your help. You've done enough. Leave Kate" she repeated.
" I'll make this right. I'll get your company back. Will you listen to me if I do so?
" Till then ' she responded walking out on her as Kate sighed turning to leave.
Her phone beep thus she checked the message.
It was the first time she was visiting David in his office.
" Kate! David acknowledged pointing to a couch as she hummed taking a seat.
" I see you got my message. Something is about to go down and I need your help in accomplishing it" Kate crossed her legs waiting for it.
" I need you to stand as his wife in a meeting. Just your presence as a guarantee. Everyone knows Alvin Reagan is a married man. Behind every great man is a great woman. What do you say? She scoffed in melancholy then stood up sauntering to his stand.
" And what's about to go down? I need details else I'm not saying a word" David took his seat leaning on it with his index fingers tapping the desk.
" It's the usual ofcourse. Obstructing his business and career. Render him useless. Put him out of business as you know Alvin Reagan is a very wealthy man. Wealthier than both of us put together. He's very much connected at a wide range. We need to break that. All we have to do is to make them trust me instead of him. I promise it'll work out. You'll get to see Simon's gravesite as mysterious as he had made it seem" he revealed as she scrutinized him with her hands on the desk leaning towards him with a wrinkled brow.
' I don't believe you. I don't believe a word you say. As for your information, I'm filing for divorce tomorrow. I'll cease to be his wife. Find Simon's gravesite. The time is ticking' they engaged in a staring competition as David break the stare with eyes on her pink lips then leaned closer.
' have I told you how sexy you look when you're angry? It takes my breath away. This will bring Alvin to his knees. I thought we were on the same page" she shrugged peering into his eyes.
' we are. It depends on how honest you are. I know what you're up to. That's my condition. If you really need my help" their faces were inches from touching each other with mixed breath. David wanted nothing other than to kiss her but he retreated leaning back on the chair amused.
" I've searched and I couldn't find it. Let's bring him to his knees and perhaps he'll spill"
" No, I want to be the one to do it. I want him to know I did everything when all this is over"
" I promise"
' fine I'll meet them but I'll file for divorce as well. You want his mind distracted. He is distracted" she spoke and that was what they did as they paid every mob in the mafia world associated with Alvin a visit and of course they doubted him but changed their minds having heard from Kate. A man who couldn't control his wife wasn't worth their loyalty.
They were seated at the table with the highest ranks of the Mafia lords.
" You want an alliance with us. Who is the pretty lady? A young mafia lord asked smoking terrible shit with tattoos peeking underneath his sleeves.
" Yes. Afterall Alvin Reagan is out of business" David spoke as they looked between themselves
" And how do you know this?
" Because I wrecked him. I'm about to in a few days" Kate stated earning ear-piercing laughter from them
" You're a gorgeous lady no doubt I must warn you he can't swoon. He's taken. That dude has never fallen for any woman. That's why we do business with him. He's a clean man" Kate scoffed finding it amusing.
' well, I'm his wife and I'm about to make history" they squinted their eyes to take a good look at her.
" I can fetch you whatever you want from him. If you'll cooperate with us of course. Think of the benefits. The endless money you can make. I mean with Alvin out of the way, the next man in line is David Wilson: someone that will owe you all a favor. In the end, nobody loses. You get to do business peacefully and David keeps the post. Simple" the one that is smoking drops his cigarette impressed.
As the wealthiest person in the country with influence and all, Alvin has rules and regulations for every mafia regarding transportation and shipping as the major port belonged to him.
" What if we pay half of what Alvin Reagan demands. Will you still keep to the bargain? He asked with a smirk certain every mafia lord was a selfish greedy bastard but David was ready to do anything to beat Alvin.
Kate sought David's eyes for confirmation while he nods. He needed their support.
" That's not a problem. Do we have a deal? Kate has spoken diligently staring at the dangerous gentlemen in the room who looked between themselves and shrugged.
All they needed was safe shipping and peace in dealing with business.
" You guarantee our safety right? Alvin Reagan goes international. I hope you are?
" Believe me we've gone international. Nobody knows him better than me"
" Fine. Where are the papers? David smiled proud of Kate for playing her game well then handed them the papers to sign.
" Nice choice gentlemen. One you won't regret" she tells them watching as they signed the papers one after the other and leaned on the chair.
With the mobsters out of the way, Alvin was just like any businessman who depended on his seaports, airports, industries, factories, and corporations. A fatal blow can bankrupt him.
He was vulnerable to disaster. Prone to David's scheme.
