Chapter 37: Chapter 37

Navaeh.

Of course I knew my hands was still entwined with Quinnel's own but I didn't want to pull away.

I loved the feeling of his hands wrapped around mine. It was heavenly and warm.

Heaven.

I loved when he called me that which was basically every time but it just rolls off his tongue in a sexy way.

Am I crazy to think Quinnel was a sexy person? Yeah I think I am.

Do I want to stop it? No, I don't.

I grinned and ate the pasta in front of me. Quinnel had grumpily eaten half of the pasta with a grim face while I ate one slice of pizza.

I already gave him the one slice of pizza left and he gave me the half eaten plate of pasta.

"Oops! My fork fell." Ashley said and she ducked her head down under the table.

She raised her head back up and gave me a secretive wink. I raised a brow at her and when I opened my mouth to talk, the bell rang indicating the end of lunch.

Also, indicating something else. End of holding Quinnel's hand! Oh no! Come on, just a few more minutes?

"What do you guys have?" Ashley asked over the voices of people and the clatters of tray that filled the cafeteria as people walked out of the cafeteria in twos and threes.

"I think it's Mathematics." I replied and she nodded her head pointing her fork at the guy beside me.

"What about you?"

"Umm, Math as well."

"You?"

"Are you seriously asking me that question? Math is a general subject. Everyone has math! Including you, Ashley!" Zaire said with a shake of his head and his sister pouted at him giving him a slight pinch.

"Hey, that hurt!"

"Hold on, a general subject?" I asked and both siblings didn't hear me over their banter.

"Yeah. Why?" Quinnel asked and I turned my head to him.

"Connie might be there." I said in a low whisper and his face morphed into an understanding look.

We both turned our heads to Ashley who had her tongue stuck out at a frowning Zaire who was hugging his body.

"But I haven't seen her today." He added and I turned to him.

I thought about it. Ever since I stepped into this school, I haven't seen Connie indeed. It was like she was absent from school today.

"That's true." I said and he nodded his head.

"I guess we have nothing to worry about." I replied and he nodded again.

"Come on, let's just go to class." Ashley said with a defeated sigh.

Zaire followed after her and carried his tray standing up. Ashley carries her empty tray and they turned their heads to us that were still seated.

"Aren't you guys coming?" Ashley asked with a hint of smirk in her face.

No, a smirk was actually on her face. Why is she smirking?

"Uhh– We... Umm– We're– coming! We're coming to class. Just umm– Leave our seats?" Quinnel stuttered and an amused smile bloomed on Ashley's face and Zaire raised a brow having not known his friend as a stutterer I guess.

I didn't know he stuttered neither!

"We'll meet you guys in class." I said straight even though my head was beating against my chest.

"Umm, okay then." Zaire said and walked away pushing his sister who looked back at me and winked.

I tilted my head at her and she threw her head back laughing.

"Are you going crazy?" Zaire asked and she patted his cheek.

"Dear naive brother... I really pity you. You're so blind." She said and then laughed again.

The sound of her laugh only died down when she was further away from the cafeteria.

I looked at Quinnel who was also staring at the door before he looked at me and we burst into laughter.

Ashley is most certainly crazy.

"Finish up. We should attend as early." Quinnel said and I immediately gobbled my food down like an obedient child.

"Come on." He said and pulled his hand away from mine. I frowned at the warmth that was suddenly missing from my hand and I immediately grabbed my empty tray.

I dumped the tray and walked away with Quinnel right behind me.

"Umm can you wait for a sec? I have to get my textbook from my locker." He said and I halted turning back.

"Sure." I replied and he grinned walking away.

Sure, walk away! and oh yeah, take this stupid heart with you– Not like it's not with you anyways– Find a place to lock it in and we can finally have some breathing space.

"Alright. I got it. Come on." He said and almost immediately his hands slipped into mine.

I looked up at him and he just looked up ahead as we strutted down the empty hallway.

We reached the class and Quinnel pushed the door open releasing my hand in the process.

Though I missed the warmth, I understood. We were in the class now. If we didn't want things to get awkward between us by the rumours and stuffs, we had to keep our hands to ourselves.

Oh, God... That sounded R18!

The day went by like normal. Quinnel and I went home together and picked up our siblings afterwards.

I got home and had stripped my uniform off before I remembered I wanted to go grocery shopping after school.

I frowned and went in for a shower anyways.

"Vee? There's like nothing we could whip up. Not even noodles." I heard as soon as I slipped out of the bathroom.

I paused trying the towel on my head and I sighed.

"I know. I wanted to go shopping after changing into outdoor clothing." I replied and Aelin bobbed her head her leg swinging freely as she cast a look downward.

Her sister, Aerin sitting beside her was not sporting the look but hers was somewhat similar to her sister. Then I remembered, they both didn't say much in the car on the way home.

"What's up?" I asked crouching down to their level.

I tucked a finger under Aelin's chin and raised it slowly so her eyes met with mine. I took my other hand and did the same to Aerin's.

My eyes moved between them before I raised a brow.

"Nothing." Aerin replied with a tight smile.

I rolled my eyes at her grim smile before I let their chins go as I was loosing balance of standing and resting my whole body on my points only.
