Chapter 26: Chapter 26
Quinnel.
I watched Heaven converse with her siblings and Caspian directing them on what to do while they all did what she asked.
She was like the supervisor doing absolutely nothing.
"Explain to me again why Heaven is just supervising?" I asked and all eyes turned to me. Even Heaven stopped in her steps.
"Uhh, cause I'm going to put the toppings on the batter and put it in the oven. That part is all me." Heaven replied shrugging while the three kids nodded their heads before going back to what they were doing.
I let out a huff and then bam! I heard a sound next to me.
"You're not chopping the meats, Mister Ashford." Heaven said beside me smiling at me in an oh so fake way.
I shivered and immediately raised the knife cutting the meat.
"Not too big, not too small." She said again and I nodded immediately chopping it.
"Good Job." I heard again and she walked away from me giggling evilly.
"Oh God." I said with a sigh and took my seat.
She's like a very strict chef.
Finally, we were all done and believe me when I say this but, Heaven actually asked me to help her with putting the toppings.
Then I'm like, dude... you said it was all you, like you didn't need any assistance. But her glare... That glare shut me up.
"Okay, that should be done in 30 minutes or so. In the meantime, let's wash the dishes and pans we used." She said and the kids groaned not moving their eyes from the Frozen playing on the TV. Even Caspian looked engrossed.
"Hey, don't eat all the gummy bears!" Caspian said suddenly dipping his hands into the pack of gummy bears in front of them.
"Oh please... Like I can actually eat it all." Aelin replied rolling her eyes at him.
Aerin only smiled and shook her head taking another bite of the gummy bear in her hand.
"Well then, I guess it's just you and me, Quin." She said and walked to the sink pulling an apron as she hung it around her neck.
"Quin?" I asked walking towards her.
"Yeah, you call me Heaven which is a nickname isn't it?" She asked pulling on the rubber gloves.
"Yeah?" I replied eyeing the blue gloves before moving my eyes back to her face.
"So, I'll call you a nickname as well. And I've settled on Quin." She replied throwing a napkin at me.
"Nah, Zaire calls me Quin. And a bunch of other people." I answered walking towards her to stand beside her while she took the soap and poured it on the sponge.
"And?" She questioned.
"And? And? You can't call me Quin. I won't allow it. Call me a unique name that no one calls me, like how I call you Heaven and no one calls you that." I replied looking at the opened tap.
"Okay... Then I'll just have to think of a name. So let's stick with Quin for today." She said and I rolled my eyes.
"Keep rolling those eyes..." She started and then I smiled already knowing what she wants to say.
"Go on. Just remember the eyes is held to it's socket by six strong muscles." I said and she laughed lightly.
"Who told you that's what I was about to say? It won't fall. Keep rolling those eyes and maybe one day it will get stuck." She finally finished and my mouth dropped open.
"I know. I'm a genius. Close your mouth." She said laughing.
"That's so not fair." I said and she stuck her tongue at me and continued laughing.
I grumpily took a washed plate and ran it under the water. After it was rinsed, I took it to my spot and dropped it.
"Fine, Quin..." She started dragging my name with a shaky breath at the end.
"What?" I grunted.
"Quin..." She called again.
I shook my head and didn't even look back.
"Quin..." She continued and I let out a sigh before I turned around.
"Are you trying to make me... Ah!"
You know that situation when something is thrown at you and you try to catch it only to drop it five seconds later without having a close look at it and scream out loud even though you don't know what it is? Yeah, that's what just happened.
Heaven was rolling her head off while laughing right now while I just have a bewildered expression on my face.
"What in God's name is that?" I questioned looking down at whatever I dropped.
Looking at it, I saw it was a gummy worm.
"A gummy Worm?!" I asked in disbelief and Heaven chuckled concluding her laugh with a little sniffle.
"Wow, you must be overjoyed." I said turning to the sink.
"Oh come on now, were you scared of a gummy worm?" She asked with a laugh.
"Of course not. I was just shocked is all. It's instinct. That's what you'll do on a normal occasion. That's what every normal human would do." I replied and she smiled taking another plate to wash it.
"Geez, stop that." I said again when she raised her hand twisting it like a snake as she brought it closer to my face.
"I'll bite your hand off." I threatened and she smiled giddily dropping her hand.
I turned my head to her while she was washing the plates with a smile on her face.
"Are you that happy?" I asked and her smile dropped and turned to me.
Then her smile lit up her face again, her eyes gleaming with joy.
"Of Course! I had long forgotten what it felt like to come home, just do your assignment and just talk to your friends without having a care in the world. You know, do stuffs with your siblings. Not somewhere working your ass off." She said with a low voice in the end.
"You're welcome." I grinned at her and smiled looking up.
"Thank you." She said sincerely and my heart did a flip.
Dude, I thought you were long gone. Why are you back?
"Alright, we need to finish this stuff quick. The Pizza should be done by then, we then keep a slice as the answer to my assignment and we can eat the rest." She said pointing at the Oven.
"Okay. Get to washing!" I said and we both went on a washing spree.
She washed and I rinsed. When I had rinsed it all, she took another napkin and we cleaned the plates together.
"Where do you work anyways?" I asked putting a plate on the rack.
"Uhh, this bowling place." She replied absentmindedly.
"Has a name?" I asked and she paused looking up at me before she sighed looking back down
"Well, you know most of my secrets. Might as well tell you this too." She replied and passed me a bowl since I wasn't cleaning anymore.
"I work at, Bunny's Bowling. Short for BB." She replied.
"A bowling place? I've never been there though." I said and she nodded her head.
"Exactly why I'm working there. None of our school students ever come by and absolutely no one that comes to bowl knows me in that Bowling place. So I'm safe and my "issue," she said air quoting the issue with both left and right hands pointer and middle finger, "is safe and moreso, the pay is good. So the Bowling place is like the best I could ask for." She replied shrugging as she finished.
