Chapter 24: Chapter 24
I held his hand and I could feel it trembling.
"Well, pardon me. But I released them some minutes ago along with other students. I have no idea why two blacks and an American boy would be missing." She replied with a very small concern and I rolled my eyes scoffing.
"Well, thanks for nothing." I replied and turned on my heels my hand gripping Quinnel's hand more tightly as I pulled him out of their hallway.
"That woman just gets horrible by the second." I grunted out and Quinnel said nothing.
"Where in heaven's name are the three of them?" I asked no one in particular.
"Vee?" I heard making me turn my head to see the three of them looking up at us.
"Where did you guys go?!" Quinnel yelled and I flinched back.
Goodness, he sounded so angry. At what? I have no idea.
I saw Caspian move back to hide behind Aelin before I realized there was a figure behind her before. Aelin was now their shield. A trembling shield I have to say.
"To the car. The three of you." I said and they wasted no time in scurrying off. The car door slammed one after the other indicating they were now in the car.
I let out a sigh and looked at Quinnel.
"Quinnel?" I called and he turned to me.
"Hey, what's wrong?" I asked and he sighed. A deep one.
"That teacher really has an uncouth mouth. I wish we had recorded her stupid voice and reported her to the principal. Then her mouth wouldn't run like a fucking broken tap." He replied glaring at the closed doors to the hallway we were in just now.
"Hey, it doesn't even matter. It's not the first time I've met someone that has an unexplainable hate for Blacks. It doesn't hurt me again." I replied and he looked down at me.
"Really?" He asked.
I nodded my head trying to convince him- and me.
"Your hand was and still is in a tight fist, Heaven." He said pointing at my hand and I looked down at it.
It was still in a ball I noticed, I didn't even realize I was balling my hands in a fist. I released the hand I didn't know I was balling and looked up with a blush that I knew wasn't visible because of my brown skin.
"Yet you say you weren't hurt." He replied and I sighed again for the umpteenth time that afternoon.
"What topping should we make? Whatever we choose, we should stop by the supermarket to get it." I said diverting his attention.
"Can we add pineapple?" He asked.
"Pineapple? You like it too?" I asked and he nodded at with a small smile.
"Nice! The twins love it too. Does Caspian eat Pineapple?" I asked.
"Yeah. He's only allergic to nuts." He replied and I whispered an "oh" my mouth forming a round shape.
"We should leave then." He said and I nodded.
He walked ahead and I followed him.
"We still haven't chosen a topping." I muttered to myself walking to my side of the car.
I slipped into the seat and he started the engine as soon as I closed the door. Gently this time around.
"That woman is just being funny. Cause I just have no idea how she expects us to make topping without having a place to put it on. So we would definitely make pizza." I said and then there was shaking from the back.
"Will you put pineapple in the topping?" came Caspian question. Same as his brother.
I hadn't had the time to reply when another voice cut through the air.
"Are you making Pizza?" Aelin asked.
"Yes and yes." I said finally.
"Yay! Great!"
Looking in the rear mirror, I noticed Aerin just resting her head on the window and looking out. Not in any way interested in the little Pizza celebration going on beside her.
I whistled a little- Our sign and I noticed Aelin's ear perk up but my eyes was on the silent girl beside her.
I saw Aelin nudge her sister before Aerin looked up at me. Our eyes met in the mirror and I raised my brow.
She shook her head and returned her gaze. Well, I know what would cheer her up.
"How many more minutes to the Supermarket?" I asked and Quinnel pointed ahead.
I looked up and saw the big Supermarket very near. We were close.
"I'm suddenly craving ice cream." I started looking back to the rear mirror to see a slight movement in Aerin's body.
"Yeah? What flavor would you be getting then?" Quinnel asked.
Without moving my eyes off the girl looking solemnly at the view out the window, even when the came came to a stop.
"I don't know. Let's get in first." I said and then Aerin looked up at me and I winked at her.
A subtle yet beautiful smile settled on her lips and I giggled.
I saw Quinnel give me a questioning look and I grinned at him finally facing him. He cringed back and I laughed at his face.
"Come on. You guys should drop your bag in the car." He said and unbuckled his belt getting out the seat.
I did the same and soon, all five of us were out of the car heading into the Supermarket.
"Welcome to Tee's Supermarket." An automated voice said as we passed through the millimeter wave body scanner.
We stepped in and walked to the Ice Cream stand first.
I noticed the girl standing there as the attendant for today was no younger than about twenty and was looking beautiful with her bare neck due to her ponytail while the front of her head was covered with a cap.
On her ear was a small pink earrings and I cringed at the colour. Why did you have to wear pink? If only I could work here instead of the bowling place. Ugh!
"Welcome to Tee's Ice Cream. What would you like to have?" She asked beaming at us.
Her eyes lingered longer on Quinnel I noticed, before she moved her eyes off him returning it seldomly.
"What do you have on the menu today?" I asked a little harshly. My likeness of her was long gone and I had no idea why.
