Chapter 58: Chapter 58

Gwenn pov.

“Why Gwenn, I would be a thousand times better than him for you.” Sorens tortured voice was the first thing that greeted me as I came into the empty courtyard which was void of every person except Sorens.

The light spring which I was walking with turned to me dragging my feet, slow to approach Sorens who was sharpening his sword. Something which was already bloody sharp.

It didn’t matter if I dragged my feet or not, Sorens knew it was me and although his head was still facing his sword, I knew he was very aware of every step I made.

“I love you Gwenn with everything and he just decides to pay you attent…” Sorens started.

“Enough Sorens.” I stated firmly while Sorens raised his head to look at me, his eyes were red and he looked exactly how his voice sounds. “Let’s stop this here.” I plead.

“Feelings don’t work like that and you know.” He replied.

“Just like you know that I cannot reciprocate the feelings I have for you.” I countered and he didn’t say anything for a while.

“So I was just holding his place for him.” Sorens asked.

“You were being my friend. That was what you always were and always will be.” I returned as Sorens head looked back at his sword which was on his laps but he didn’t sharpen it anymore.

“I don’t think that I can remain your friend.” He said with his tone barely audible but still it felt final and his words filled me with a kind of dread.

“Are you being serious right now?’ I asked him, my voice going shrill, I was scared of not having Sorens in my life, he is supposed to be there for a very long time, I didn’t want to lose the first friend I made in Northshore which was not as a result of the friend pitying me.

“Yes, Alal, I am being serious.” He replied as he stepped back while looking at me sadly. “I cannot be your friend and watch from the shadows while your love your king, I cannot sit back and act like I am happy for you when all I keep wishing for are things that make me a traitor. I regret why you came into my life Gwenn because there is no way which you can tell me to feel something else. It doesn’t work that way.” Sorens yelled as I shifted back in shock.

“Even after I warned you against it, you still do it.” Arius voice sounded behind me as my eyes widened. Arius was going to kill Sorens if he gets his hand on him.

“Arius.” I said softly as I tried to stand in front of Arius to stop his advancement towards Sorens but he just stepped around me.

Sorens was now standing up and gripping his sword handle very tight as if he was contemplating running the sword through Arius.

Arius slowed down once he was toe to toe with Sorens, his gaze flickered to Sorens sword.

“Do you plan on using that on me?” Arius asked Sorens whose grip went tighter before he released his hold on the sword and it clattered on the floor.

“You are not worth me getting on the queen bad side.” Sorens returned and as quick as a flash. Arius backhanded Sorens who stumbled back a few steps.

“Arius.” I yelled but Arius ignored me, in fact both of them did.

Sorens stood straight again and before he could say anything Arius started talking. “I will let this behavior of yours go because I know that you are nursing a broken heart, that is the only reason why you will not swing for this, don’t try my patience for a second time around.”

“You don’t deserve her.” Sorens stated.

“I know but you also don’t deserve her, there is just one person who can make Gwenn choices for her and that is Gwenn herself and she chose me so it would be better off for you to remain her friend and get over this silly hatred you have going on. Teach my queen how to survive, that I all I ask.” Arius ended and Sorens nodded at Arius who left without a second glance at me.

“Sorens…” I approached him and wanted to reach out to touch his face which was beginning to swell but he flinched away from me and I couldn’t help the tears that pricked my eyes.

“Forgive me my Queen but it is just too early for me to accept your touch. Would it be okay if we practice your whip today?” Sorens asked shifting away from me, I would normally complain but after what I just witness between him and Arius, I didn’t want to push anything.

“Of course.” I replied even when we both knew that there was nothing to practice about my whip since that is the one weapon I had down on a pat if it concerns Northshore of Dar because I have been extremely talented with it.

***************

Getting to Arius room that evening, I saw he had already set a small table of food which was wise since I didn’t eat and I didn’t get anything from the kitchen to eat, not when almost everybody still hate me misguidedly just because Faye was dead. I was also not in the mood to entertain catty princesses so I skipped all together.

“You are famished.” Arius asked with a cloth round his waist, some droplets of water trailing down his spine and stitch less chest.

“Yes, I am so hungry right now.” I replied around a mouthful since I helped him with eating his food.

“Hmm,” was all Arius replied as he laid a kiss on my shoulders?

“How was your time with Sorens?” He asked me and when I stopped eating to look at him, he shrugged.

“I am just curious.”

“It was fine.” I replied.

“Did he make any more annoying commentaries?” Arius asked again and this time I raised my eyebrow. “I was too angry to go back and check on you two, I didn’t want to attack or kill him this time.”

“Sorens didn’t do anything inappropriate. I hope he bounces back very quickly.” I muttered as Arius placed a finger under my chin.

“Do you regret choosing me right?” Arius asked.

“Choose?” my brows pulled down as I messed with Arius. “I was not aware that I was making any decisions.” I added.

“You…” He tickled me as I started laughing, it wasn’t long before he kissed me and then, before he kiss could get heated, he whispered to my ears.

“I am glad that I get to keep you.”

“I am glad that I get you too.” I whispered softly.
