Chapter 56: Chapter 56
Arius pov
I didn’t understand the kind of news I have been getting since I woke up, or rather I had been awakened because of it. How could someone do that to Faye?
I was still disoriented by the fact that someone could kill Faye, in my palace with blatant disregard for me. When Silana refused to allow me to see her corpse, I knew it was something worse off and to keep me from going behind her back to see Faye and convince myself that this is not real and that maybe just maybe they had the wrong person and Faye had already left early that morning to avoid the stares and side comments, Silana was with me. Babysitting me like I am younger than her and not her older brother.
“Are you sure that it is Faye?” I asked Silana who was sitting beside me in the chair that was meant for Gwenn, the only reason why I allowed her to sit there was because I knew she was the only other person from Northshore who Gwenn will have not issues with.
“Sir?” The Mareikura who was in front of me and giving me the activities and the people who would see me today, I had cut her short in her words as she was talking.
“Is it Faye? Your former fellow attendant who was found dead?” I asked her and the Mareikura lips trembled as tears gathered in her eyes. I just felt bad for talking to her the way I did when it was clear that she was just trying to pull herself together so that she can continue her activities.
“Now you are just being a bull with no manners on purpose.” Silana snaps at me.
“I am sorry.” I said to her. “I just find it difficult to believe that she is gone.”
“Me too, she was so excited to be a mother.” The lady said before she choked on her tears and quickly bowed to be and slowly walked backwards towards the door, when I waved her off that it was okay if she left to compose herself, she ran off.
“Faye cannot be gone Silana.” I said as Silana sighs.
“Maybe it is better she is gone now.” My sister answered as I turned to glare at her.
I knew she didn’t like Faye but that was such a spiteful something to say, I never expected it from her and she sounded like her other sisters too much.
“Silana.” I growled.
“It is the truth, I am not sure that I want to even be around for the things that are coming.” She replied as I frowned in confusion.
“What is coming?” I asked but she shook her head and stood up.
“We will talk when you are less busy brother.” She replied as she walked to the door, I looked around the room to see that I was alone. When less busy was she talking about.
“Silana…” I called just as the door opened before she could reach it and Gwenn entered.
“Arius, are you okay?” Gwenn rushed towards me.
“Sure I am.” I hugged her as she threw herself into my arms. I felt tears on my neck as I became alarmed. “Gwenn?”
“Faye didn’t deserve to go like that.” Was all she replied with while I held her close. I didn’t know what she meant but I saw Orel standing in the room, he must have came with her.
“Told you.” Silana called back just as she ducked out of the room, I was about to ask Gwenn more information about Faye when my council ran in with someone who looked like he was from the mountain sides of Northshore which was very far from the palace and with the way the man was, both in dressing and exhaustion. I could tell that he came here without stopping.
“Yama, we have a serious Issue.” Isolde announced as Gwenn froze in my hand. Within a second, she had flung herself away from me.
“It isn’t what it looks like.” She started.
“You could be having sex in here and it still wouldn’t be our business.” Gogan said as Gwenn face turned red.
“We were not having sex, this is why I said, it isn’t what it looked like.” Gwenn argues.
“So you were not in your husband’s arms seeking and giving comfort for the member of your family who died today.” Kayd asked and even with the somber mood. I couldn’t help the laugh that bubbled from inside me at Gwenn’s expression.
“You are right.” She answered him. “We were doing that but Faye did not just die, she was murdered, brutally.” She corrected Kayd whose jaw clenched in anger.
“Yes, Lady Faye died and we all know that, that is not important right now. What is important is that we let this man talk while we decide what to do during the period where he rests.” Isolde cuts short as I turned my gaze to the man who was standing near her, when the man noticed my gaze on him, he threw himself on the ground before me.
“Yama.” He said reverently.
“Stand and talk.” I order as the man stood up.
“The mountain sides are in danger. Our food is dwindling and can barely leave. The people there are trapped and hunted by something which we cannot see. It is like we have a vengeful spirit on our tails. Since I had left, I had not stopped or taken a break. I had to bring this to you.” He bowed.
“Vengeful spirit.” I asked.
“Yes… like a drude has awakened or something.” The man added as all the council snapped at him at once.
“What is a dr…” Gwenn started but they all yelled at Gwenn.
“It is a curse or someone who seemed possessed.” I replied, looking at the man in question.
“I don’t know if we are possessed or not.” The man cried. “Please Yama, don’t leave us, save us and protect us. You are your people too.”
“I volunteer to go and examine the situation and see if I can solve it.” Isolde said, stepping close to the man.
“Are you sure?” Gwenn asked softly. “I can go and end it…”
“With all due respect Alal, I think it would be better if you remain by your Yama for now.” Isolde returns.
When Gwenn went to protest again, I placed a hand on Gwenn’s. “Isolde, you have my permission.” I replied as Isolde gave me a chin jerk before leaving the room.
“Why?” Gwenn faced me and I smiled at her.
“Because, my Queen, Isolde come from that settlement and her people are in danger. It goes against everything she believes in if she doesn’t take an active part in ensuring that she deals with the threat.”
Gwenn sighed as the council followed Isolde out, some arguing with her already. “I think she is stepping into something much bigger than she can handle.”
“Don’t say that in her presence, she sees it as a challenge and I don’t want you to be receiving any challenge until you can defend yourself.” My wife smiled at me even though her eyes were worried.
“Gwenn, is it really Faye?” I asked in a small voice.
