Chapter 83: Chapter 83

Chapter 83

Caleb and Pershey

"How's the music?" Pershey asked before removing the earphone from the ear including her ear.

"Why did you think to listen to that?" Caleb asked her.

She was surprised when Caleb suddenly asked, she asked, “Huh? What do you mean? ” she even laughed a little.

"I mean ... that song is ... argh- nevermind."

He laughed and fell silent afterwards. They both fell silent. They sat on the same sand. There is only some space between them.

The wind blows along with the waves from the sea. Their minds seemed to be in sync with the wind. Unexpectedly, Pershey was unaware of leaning her head on Caleb's shoulder. Caleb smiled because of that.

From where Samuel and Neil were, Neil caught a glimpse of Pershey. His heart skipped a beat while looking at her. He could do nothing but look at Pershey and let the cold envelop his heart.

He took his eyes off Pershey to relieve the heavy feeling he had every time he saw Pershey happy in the company of others. He thought that hopefully he could bring back the times when Pershey still wanted him. He also thinks about the time he hurt Pershey. The memories of those moments tightened in his chest.

"There is no moon," Pershey said as he gazed at the dark sky that was given life by the stars.

"Yes, nothing," she replied as she looked at Pershey while Pershey leaned her head on his shoulder and looked directly at the sky.

"The stars are beautiful, shining, twinkling," she said softly as if she could feel everything she said.

Caleb smiled as he still looked at her, saying, "You're more beautiful than the stars."

Because of what he said, Pershey looked at him. She was trying to read the contents of Caleb's mind. A sweet smile drew on her lips. She felt the sincerity of what he said.

She soon laughed a little and stood up. She rolled up her shorts to shed the sands. Caleb stood up as well.

"I feel like I want to take a bath," she said and began to tread on the shore of the sea.

"You're going to get cold, Shey," he replied and came over to slap Pershey's hand. "Come on, let's go to the fire," he said.

Pershey looked at him, smiling. Unexpectedly, she looked at Neil who was staring at her. The smile slowly faded from her lips as she looked at Neil. Then, Neil averted his eyes and just stood up and took a walk on the sand to entertain himself.

Pershey turned her gaze back to Caleb who was still staring at him.

"Let's eat now?"

He nodded, saying, "I'm starving."

They walked together. Caleb supports Pershey until they can return to their former positions. They came even closer sitting near the fire to quench the cold in their bodies.

Caleb wrapped the towel around Pershey's body. That caused Pershey to smile sweetly.

"It tastes sweet," Fricks said suddenly while busy grilling a barbeque. They heard what he said, so they both just smiled.

Pershey brought her hands to the fire and rubbed her palms.

Her voice and body trembled, she said, "It's so cold."

Caleb noticed that Pershey was getting very cold, so he even wrapped the towel around Pershey's body. He left the towel with Pershey, so she wouldn't get cold anymore.

Pershey was shocked by what he did and noticed that there was no towel wrapped around his body.

She removed it and wrapped it around Caleb's body.

He refused and forced it back to Pershey but Pershey did not agree, so he just let it go.

“Thanks,” he said. Pershey smiled even though she wasn't looking at Caleb. The surroundings became quiet. They seem to be feeling who will speak first. They were both waiting to see who would speak to the two of them first.

When they both couldn't stop talking, they spoke together.

"Where are you-"

“Who's your—”

They both laughed. They asked each other questions at the same time.

“Okay, you go first,” Pershey said.

"You speak first," Caleb justified.

"You go first."

"You go first, Shey."

“You, Caleb, will be the first to speak. Hurry up, I want to know what you have to say. ”

"All right, it's me," he agreed. "Where are you going to college?" he asked.

Pershey first thought about the answer to Caleb's question. So far, she has not thought about which University College she will enter.

"I do not know. I haven't thought about college yet,” she explained. Caleb nodded in response. “I am still undecided. My brain is constantly changing,” she added.

“Why don’t you try to be an accountant? It's up to you to be an accountant or if you want to be a business woman. ”

Pershey laughed a little at what Caleb had told her.

"I'm still undecided," she replied. Caleb just nodded in agreement with what she said.

Silence wrapped again between the two of them. Pershey thought to ask again.

“What about you? What do you want to be? ”

Caleb looked at her for a moment, lips smiling, saying, "I want to be with you, Shey."

Pershey's tongue twitched, so she couldn't speak to what Caleb had said. Caleb is still the same. She was still smiling as she watched him. She felt deprived, so she averted her eyes from Caleb. She hid how she felt, so she wouldn’t suddenly smile.

"Shey," he called softly, so she slowly turned around even though she was still a little confused.

She stuttered, "W-w-why?"

“Do you remember what you promised me?”

"Ah-ah-ah ammm ..."

Memories came back to her mind. She knew what Caleb was referring to that she had promised him earlier. She knew what it was but zhe didn’t know how she was going to do or carry it out.

"W-what promise are you referring to?"

"Everything we promised each other, Shey."

Her tongue twitched at what Caleb had said. She didn’t seem to know how to speak or how to respond to what Caleb said.

They left many promises to each other. All of those promises were alive in Caleb's heart and mind.

Ever since they left to live in Canada again, he has planted in his heart and mind the promises they made to each other when they were young. To this day, he still remembers all the promises they made.

"We promised each other that we would present each other to the church, that we would be, that we would be you and me."

Pershey almost swallowed her own saliva. Her throat was dry and her tongue was receding. She did not know how to speak.

"C-c-caleb," Pershey called to him stuttering. She played with her fingers and could not rest herself.

"I can wait, Shey," Caleb said. He took both of Pershey's hands and held them tightly. Because of that, Pershey couldn't help but look at him. Anxiety was evident in the reaction on her face. "I won't force you, Shey," he added. Sweet smile and melting look he did, and he barely parted Pershey's hair. "I'm ready to wait again."

Pershey inevitably smiled at what Caleb was saying but after a moment that smile also disappeared.

"Even the fire is being consumed," said Fricks while grilling the squid skewered on a stick.

They heard what Fricks said and they knew what he meant, so they both laughed. Pershey got up to get a barbeque when her stomach was boiling. Caleb also stood up and immediately supported her.

They walked together towards Iries and Fricks' place. They both grill squid and barbeque.

"Has the barbeque been cooked yet?" Pershey asked while her eyes were busy staring at the grilled squid. She even smelled the cooked squid. She sighed deeply.

Even before Fricks could speak, Caleb's barbeque caught up with her.

"Here is your barbeque, Miss Shey," he said as he handed the barbeque to Pershey.

Pershey looked at him for a moment and focused more on the barbeque she was holding.

“Oh, barbeque,” she said excitedly and took the barbeque Caleb was giving her. She immediately took a bite of the barbeque and savored the taste of it. She closes her eyes as she chews it.

Caleb enjoys her as she eats a barbeque.

When she opened her eyes, she immediately saw Caleb's smiling face staring at her, so she stopped chewing. She also smiled after then took another bite of the barbeque.

Caleb was still watching her how she ate the barbeque and he was very pleased with her. Pershey savored the delicious taste of the barbeque as if she hadn't tasted it for so long.

"Hmm, so delicious."

Caleb laughed in delight at her.

Pershey wondered why he suddenly laughed.

"What's wrong?"

"You're still beautiful even eating," he replied and smiled broadly.

Fricks and Iries are always tempted because of what they do in front of them.

"Your flirtation," Iries said with a laugh before handing them two sticks of grilled squid.

"Even this grilled squid will taste good," said Fricks before handing them the sauce.

They both laughed at what the two of them were saying.

"You belong to each other," Fricks added. They stopped laughing.

Pershey didn't say a word and just dipped the grilled squid in the sauce before he took a little bite.

She closes her eyes again.

“Tastes good,” she commented.
