Chapter 2: Chapter 2
Chad couldnât stop laughing.
Jason had relayed what happened to him yesterday and he didnât wait for him to finish, before he burst out into uncontrollable laughter.
âShut upâ Jason said.
âLooks like she got some taste after allâ Chad said when he could breathe normally.
Jason ignored him.
âHas she ever had a boyfriend that she has taste?â Jason asked.
âWell maybe she really doesnât like youâ.
âYes. So did the other girls that I took under the bleachersâ Jason smirked.
âMaybe you arenât a lady-killer after allâ Chad laughed.
âSheâs just playing hard to get thatâs allâ Jason said with a charming smile.
âNot sure dude. Iâm sure she can bite your dick off if she could. Just end it now and save yourselfâ.
âNo. Iâm going to show her that this promiscuous nonchalant guy can get her too. She should stop putting herself on a pedestal when sheâs nothingâ.
He went to class early. He had a feeling she was one of those that got to class before the teacher, and he was right when she entered the class. He looked at her and made a face at her appearance. She didnât acknowledge his presence.
She was really a proud person, wasnât she?
The way she dressed. Yesterday she wore baggy pants and a shirt that was reallyâŚ..like she was working in an office. But he had seen office workers and they still dressed better than her. She dressed like a grandma. Like how she was wearing a long-sleeved dress that was all the way to her knees. Her hair up and in big glasses.
She looked like a grandma. Really.
She sat on her seat and slowly got her things out.
He stood up and made his way to her.
âGood morningâŚâŚâ
âCan you leave me alone? I told you Iâll call the copsâ.
âOkay when you call the police, what will you tell them I didâ.
She thought about it for a while. âI-I-Iâll tell them that youâre harassing meâ.
He smiled his flirtatious smile. âAnd how am I harassing you?â he asked. âThereâs nothing on you that Iâd want to touch thank youâ he added mentally.
âYou keep following me and I keep telling you to leave me alone. And stop trying to talk to me!â
âHey calm downâ he tried.
âDonât tell me to calm down because I am calmâ she argued.
âWhatâs your deal? Iâm a nice guy. I wonât bite you if thatâs what youâre thinkingâ. Maybe if she was into that kind of thing, heâd like it too. He didnât know.
And he had her stuttering which was a sure sign that she was flustered. She was falling. Slowly but surely.
âMy deal is that you should leave me aloneâ she said massaging her temples.
âYouâve been in my class for a long time and I want to be friends with youâ. He wasnât sure if she had any friends at all.
âWhy now?â she asked.
âBecause itâs senior year and I want to be friends with everyone before graduationâ.
âIâm an introvert and I donât need friends. Especially when theyâre like youâ.
âGood looking, strong guys like me?â
âProud fornicatorsâ.
âJust say sex and playboy okay? You saying that sounds really weirdâ he huffed.
âThatâs the truthâ she smirked.
âOkay you want us to start saying truths?â he asked.
She snorted.
âFirst donât be so proud. This is the 21st century so you can say those words. Donât be a prude and donât feel so high. I just want to be your friend and thatâs all. Has anyone asked you to be their friend before? No. So just be grateful. Youâre so stuck up and you really should change your wardrobeâ.
âIâm sorry the way I am doesnât please you Jason. Thatâs the way I am and you donât know me. Donât talk like you do!â
âLike the way you talked yesterday?â
âWeâre done hereâ she stated in a nonsensical tone. âDonât talk to me againâ and she buried her face in her book.
Jason sighed and made his way back to his seat.
He just stared at her back and he was no expert on girls, but he had a feeling that he had hurt her and maybe she was crying. No this girl was tough. She was too strong to cry.
After school she was ready to head home. She couldnât concentrate a hundred percent today. She was only able to concentrate ninety-seven percent. The rest three kept thinking about what Jason said.
She wouldnât curse.
She wouldnât curse.
But he was such a person that wanted to bring out the worst in her, but he wouldnât win. Yes she didnât have friends because she didnât want friends. She wasnât acting high proud like he said, she just didnât want to be involved with any of them. She wasnât a prude. She had something he didnât have which was called manners.
She wasnât stuck up. She was Kelly and she was herself. And there was nothing wrong with the way she dressed or spoke. She said it as it was. She wouldnât let it get to her. She had heard a lot of things as a freshman and she just learnt to ignore that.
Wait!
Was that why no one came close to her? She wouldnât think about that. Adriana was coming over today and no one would ruin it. Not even Jason. Hopefully after what happened in class heâd leave her alone. Why would he want to talk to her now?
She wasnât sure if he knew her name or not.
What happened to all those years? She didnât want someone like him in her life. Boys only wanted one thing and it was to fornicate. Just a few months, and sheâd be out of here forever to live a life where she wasnât surrounded by people like Jason.
Time for her to go home.
âHeyâ Jason waved and Kelly paused in her walking. That was her mistake. She shook her head and continued walking.
âIâm sorry about todayâ he said walking after her.
âLeave me aloneâ she groaned making her way round the parking lot.
âJust tell me you accept my apologyâ.
âJust tell me what is it you want so you can leave me aloneâ.
âI just want to be your friend, but youâre making me look badâ.
âAre you a good person?â she asked.
He clenched his fists. He wasnât going to say things again.
âYou fornicate with a lot of girlsâ she stated turning to look at him. âSo are you a good person?â
âJust say sexâ he pleaded.
âSex is what husband and wives do. Fornication is what people who arenât married do. AKA what you and all those girls do. So youâre not a good personâ.
âHave you had a boyfriend before?â he asked.
She adjusted her glasses. âI donât see the need for a boyfriend. You guys just want to fornicate anywayâ.
âMaybe some good dick would shut you upâ he thought evilly. âWell as I was saying I just want to be your friend and thatâs all. What are you doing tomorrow?â
She turned away and was walking again, but he ran after her.
âWe could go outâ.
âI donât want to go anywhere with youâ.
âLet me drop you off and we can plan how tomorrow will beâ.
âI donât want to go anywhere with you. Should you be really seen with me? Weird KellyâŚ..â
âThatâs your name?â he cut her offâ. âNiceâ.
âListen JasonâŚâŚ.â
âLet me drop you off. And letâs hang out tomorrow and if you still hate me, Iâll leave you aloneâ.
âI doubt thatâ.
âYou accept?â he asked hopeful.
âNo. Now go away!â
âJust one outing and youâll see Iâm not a bad person, and you can prove me wrong that youâre not stuck up, and even though youâre an introvert you need someoneâ.
Kelly was silent.
âNow Kelly, can I drive you home?â
âSo tell me about youâ Jason said when he couldnât stand the silence anymore.
âIâm Kelly, your classmate. Keep drivingâ she said bluntly.
âIâm Jason Angleâ he began.
âEverybody knowsâ she rolled her eyes.
âWhatâs your problem? Iâm just trying to be niceâ.
âI donât want you to be nice. Just be the way you were before. Ignore me!â
âWell I donât want to ignore youâ he said.
ââŚâŚ.anymoreâ she added.
âSo are you going anywhere tomorrow?â
âLibraryâ she replied.
âShould I pick you up?â
âNo!â she screamed.
âWhatâs wrong?â he asked confused.
âNothingâ she lied. A boy like him coming to her house. Her mother would be very angry with her and at him. She warned her against people like this. âJust meet me at the libraryâ.
âThatâs weirdâ he thought. Well earlier he did pick up weird Kelly soâŚ..
âDrop me off hereâ she said.
âIs this your house?â he asked.
âNoâ she replied. âItâs not far from here. Iâll walkâ she was already opening her door.
âIf it isnât far, let me drop you offâ he smiled his dazzling smile, but she just opened her door.
âTomorrowâ she said and walked away. She sighed as he drove past.
âIâm back mumâ she said as she entered.
Raising her head up, it wasnât her mum, but Adriana. She was still the same she was when she left. Light skin glowing, still tall and very beautiful. She was the same, and at the same time still different.
There was a time when they matched, hair up and the same clothes. Their mum hated their body being opened, but Adriana didnât care anymore. She was in tight pants, her hair down, makeup, and a very exposing shirt.
âKelly!â her sister squealed running up to her and she hugged her.
She even had fake nails. Her mother wouldnât be happy.
âI missed youâ Adriana whispered softly and she looked like she was going to cry.
âI missed you tooâ she whispered looking round making sure her mother wasnât close by. Her mother had sat her down for a talk when Adriana left.
How she couldnât talk to her sister and tell her what she was doing was bad. How could she let her sister go astray? The normal talk, and she said she wasnât happy with Adriana and she expected her to take her side.
Adriana cupped her face.
âYou look just like mumâ she said trying not to cry.
âYou look really different. Itâs niceâ.
âThanks. Youâre just like a replica of her. And you continue to take after her. Youâre like a mini version of herâ.
âAdriana, why are you here?â Kelly asked.
âI missed you guys. I wanted to see youâ.
She looked round again. âNothing is wrong, butâŚ..â
âAdriana, Kellyâ their mum said from the railing, and both looked up to see their mother there.
âYouâre hereâ her mother stated.
âI guess thatâs itâ Adriana said.
âThis is going to be a disasterâ Kelly thought.
âDinner is ready Kelly. We were waiting for youâ.
âOkayâŚ.â
âGo get set for dinnerâ she instructed.
âYes maâamâ.
Getting back they should just have hung a sign that thereâs tension here. She was the black sheep of the family soâŚ.this was going to be a disaster and mum would want her to support her instead of her wayward sister.
âSo Adriana where do you stay now?â their mother asked coldly.
âI stay with a friend in her apartmentâ she replied also cold.
âSchool?â
âIâm in college thanks for askingâ.
âHow are you affording tuition?â her mother asked, pausing in her eating.
âI work multiple jobs mum. What did you think?!â she snapped.
âWhy are you here Adriana? We were doing okay by ourselvesâ her mother sighed.
âI came here because I missed you guys, but I can see now that you donât miss me. Your blood daughterâ she said hurt.
âYou stopped being my daughter when you disgraced your familyâ her mother said standing up, noisily pushing her chair back.
Kelly tried to keep calm.
âAnd you didnât apologize. I didnât ask you to leave that was your decisionâ.
âYou pushed me to leave. How could I stay when I wasnât feeling loved?â
âYou expect me to just overlook things like that, after what you did? Look at yourself Adrianaâ she said pointing to her.
Adriana looked to Kelly who had her head down.
âEven your sister canât look at youâ her mother whispered.
Adriana was quiet. Her eyes down.
âIâm going to bed. You should too Kellyâ and she made her way up the stairs.
Kelly looked up when she was gone and her sister didnât look at her. She picked her plate up and she made her way to the sink.
âYou know youâre turning into herâ Adriana stated getting her youngerâs sister attention.
âPardon?â she asked.
âYouâre turning into her. Youâre almost a little her. Judgmental and pushing people awayâ.
âAdrianaâ Kelly tried.
âYouâre going to turn into her if you donât get up and take charge of your life. Youâre going to be here for the rest of your life. Just the two of you because no one is good enough for youâ.
âSo I should go out and live my life just like you didâ Kelly stated.
Adriana sighed and picked up her purse. Kelly made no move to stop her. She was tired of two of them arguing about the other to her.
âI made a mistake Kelly and just make sure you wonâtâ she said.
âGoodnight Adrianaâ she stood up and hugged her sister.
âGoodnight Kelâ she said giving her a kiss and she was out the door which Kelly had to lock.
Kelly sighed making her way up the stairs to her room. The dinner had been a total disaster. She wasnât sure if they could be the happy family they were.
And Adriana should really watched what she said. She wasnât judgmental. It was already out there, so what should she do with it? And she didnât push people away. They were just bad enough that she didnât want to be corrupted. Yes.
Now she was going to bed and hopefully tomorrow would be better than that.
On a more positive note, her sister was alive and healthy. Even though she dressed like all those girls, which was might have been the reason for her mother blowing up.
There was a slight chance that it would work out okay.
Jason walked into the library and smiled at the librarian. It was empty except for the librarian and maybe other workers, but he had to becauseâŚ..Kelly yes! Kelly was a little early bird, and he knew he made the right choice when he saw her familiar bun.
âGood morning Kellyâ he greeted.
She snapped her book shut and looked up at him.
âWhat are you doing here?!â she demanded. She really thought that he wouldnât come at all. Imagine that. Jason Angle in a library.
He pulled a chair back and sat down in front of her.
âI told you that weâd hang out today and you agreedâ he reminded her.
âI really didnât think that you would come to a library. Isnât the field or parties more of your scene?â
âJust because I do that doesnât mean I donât study too, but not just hereâ.
âWhatâs your strongest subject then?â
âMathâ he replied.
At least they were conversing.
âSo where did we stop yesterday?â he asked.
Kelly groaned loudly.
âWell Iâm Jason Angleâ.
âIâm Kelly Blinch. You would know if youâŚ..forget itâ she sighed opening her book. She didnât even want to talk to him.
âHave any siblings?â
âYesâ she replied placing her cheek on her palm bored.
âIâm an only child. So you can say I get all their loveâ.
âSureâ she said flatly.
âSo a sister or a brother?â
âA sisterâ she replied.
âWhat about her?â he leaned forward interested.
That caused her to sit up and she looked uncomfortable. âI donât want to talk about herâ she whispered.
Okay he was really sure that this was the first time he heard her talk this soft.
âOkay, weâll talk about something elseâ.
âOkayâ she replied.
âSo whatâs your routine?â he asked.
âCome again?â she asked back.
âYour routine. You come off as a home to school then church repeatâ.
âThen youâre not wrongâ she stated simply.
âWow!â he exclaimed.
âAm I that interesting?â she asked dryly.
âN-yâŚ..â he cleared his throat. âDo you have a cellphone?â
âNo. I see it as a distraction. You wonât be able to focus on your studies or anything if you have oneâ. Well thatâs what her mother told her. So it was true. A lot of people were obsessed with their gadgets and could no longer walk straight.
Jason tried not to laugh. âSo I see you have no social lifeâ he stated.
âLike I said I donât need friendsâ she reminded him.
âEveryone needs someone. Even the strongestâ.
âTell me what you want Jasonâ.
âTo win a bet honestly and youâre making it difficultâ. He didnât like being around her just like the way she felt. She should just stop playing hard to get and this would be over, but now he was curious.
âI want to know more about you reallyâ he said solemnly.
She was silent.
âSo you have a boyfriend?â It was a really funny question and he knew the answer.
âNoâ she replied.
âHave you ever liked someone?â
She was silent and he couldnât laugh until she said something. âWellâŚ.â
âWell what?â he cut her off like an excited child.
âWell Iâm only human so there has to be a time I develop feelings for someoneâ.
âCan you fucking talk normal?!â he yelled frustrated in his head. âReally? Who?â he inquired.
âNone of your businessâ she replied vehemently.
âHave you had any thoughts concerning himâŚâŚor her?â Just to be safe. He wanted to know if the battle was already lost before he begun.
âI would never have carnal thoughts about someone. That is immoral and I am not like youâ.
âWhat?!â he snapped.
She just had to ruin it when they were actually on the same page.
âDonât you have carnal thoughts about the girls you forâŚ.?â
âJust say sleep with or sex. It is not that hardâ he whined.
She huffed and looked down obviously embarrassed.
âIs that why you dress like that then?â
She looked up at him and just stared.
âThatâs why you dress like a grandma?â he laughed.
âI dress modest. I cover up and donât open up my body because of people like you, so you wonât have carnal thoughtsâ.
âJust say youâre flatâ he thought annoyed.
âI think weâre done hereâ she said pushing her chair back softly and walking away quickly. He took a deep breath and followed her outside.
âWhy do you always keep running away? Are you scared Iâll do something to you?â he called at her retreating back.
She turned around and glared hard. If only she had a stone. She just realized what she had thought. How could she think of something so violent? All the more reason to stay away from him.
âI am not scared of you Jason!â she yelled.
âReally? Because you seem to have a lot of ideas in your head about a lot of thingsâ.
âLeave me aloneâ she said turning around to storm off, but she felt hot and a weight released. Turning around, her hair was in her face. âHow didâŚ?â
âYou should wear your hair down often. It suits youâ he winked and walked away.
Kelly just stood there confused.
Jason got into his car with a smile. If plain-Jane wanted to play hard to get, he would take it to the next level. He was sure a guy had never looked her way. Just a little flirting and this nightmare would soon be over.
Kelly stood there the wind blowing her hair in her face. Did thatâŚ..boy know how hard it was to get all her hair in one place and then make it into a bun? He just undid all her hard work.
Sheâd just go home.
Turning around, she saw her reflection on the library window and really looked at herself. Not just the routine check she did every day.
Her hair was actually nice. But she didnât care that much about physical appearance. Sheâd become obsessed with herself and that was bad. Over focused on her appearance would take all her time away from her studies, and she didnât want to make an appearance in anyoneâs thoughts.
She didnât want to be vain.
But putting her hair down wouldnât be a bad idea, but she was used to it being up. That was how her mother held her hair, and so did her sister and her also. It fit her perfectly and her mother liked it, so there was no need to change it.
She stood there and admired herself in the mirror for a while before she took her leave. When she got home, she would sit in her room and put her hair back in the normal style.
She didnât like Jason or the very idea of him, but he was right about this one thing. But there was nothing she wanted to change about herself. She was okay the way she was and Jason could just be quiet.
