Chapter 2: Chapter 2

Chad couldn’t stop laughing.

Jason had relayed what happened to him yesterday and he didn’t wait for him to finish, before he burst out into uncontrollable laughter.

“Shut up” Jason said.

“Looks like she got some taste after all” Chad said when he could breathe normally.

Jason ignored him.

“Has she ever had a boyfriend that she has taste?” Jason asked.

“Well maybe she really doesn’t like you”.

“Yes. So did the other girls that I took under the bleachers” Jason smirked.

“Maybe you aren’t a lady-killer after all” Chad laughed.

“She’s just playing hard to get that’s all” Jason said with a charming smile.

“Not sure dude. I’m sure she can bite your dick off if she could. Just end it now and save yourself”.

“No. I’m going to show her that this promiscuous nonchalant guy can get her too. She should stop putting herself on a pedestal when she’s nothing”.

He went to class early. He had a feeling she was one of those that got to class before the teacher, and he was right when she entered the class. He looked at her and made a face at her appearance. She didn’t acknowledge his presence.

She was really a proud person, wasn’t she?

The way she dressed. Yesterday she wore baggy pants and a shirt that was really…..like she was working in an office. But he had seen office workers and they still dressed better than her. She dressed like a grandma. Like how she was wearing a long-sleeved dress that was all the way to her knees. Her hair up and in big glasses.

She looked like a grandma. Really.

She sat on her seat and slowly got her things out.

He stood up and made his way to her.

“Good morning……”

“Can you leave me alone? I told you I’ll call the cops”.

“Okay when you call the police, what will you tell them I did”.

She thought about it for a while. “I-I-I’ll tell them that you’re harassing me”.

He smiled his flirtatious smile. “And how am I harassing you?” he asked. ‘There’s nothing on you that I’d want to touch thank you’ he added mentally.

“You keep following me and I keep telling you to leave me alone. And stop trying to talk to me!”

“Hey calm down” he tried.

“Don’t tell me to calm down because I am calm” she argued.

“What’s your deal? I’m a nice guy. I won’t bite you if that’s what you’re thinking”. Maybe if she was into that kind of thing, he’d like it too. He didn’t know.

And he had her stuttering which was a sure sign that she was flustered. She was falling. Slowly but surely.

“My deal is that you should leave me alone” she said massaging her temples.

“You’ve been in my class for a long time and I want to be friends with you”. He wasn’t sure if she had any friends at all.

“Why now?” she asked.

“Because it’s senior year and I want to be friends with everyone before graduation”.

“I’m an introvert and I don’t need friends. Especially when they’re like you”.

“Good looking, strong guys like me?”

“Proud fornicators”.

“Just say sex and playboy okay? You saying that sounds really weird” he huffed.

“That’s the truth” she smirked.

“Okay you want us to start saying truths?” he asked.

She snorted.

“First don’t be so proud. This is the 21st century so you can say those words. Don’t be a prude and don’t feel so high. I just want to be your friend and that’s all. Has anyone asked you to be their friend before? No. So just be grateful. You’re so stuck up and you really should change your wardrobe”.

“I’m sorry the way I am doesn’t please you Jason. That’s the way I am and you don’t know me. Don’t talk like you do!”

“Like the way you talked yesterday?”

“We’re done here” she stated in a nonsensical tone. “Don’t talk to me again” and she buried her face in her book.

Jason sighed and made his way back to his seat.

He just stared at her back and he was no expert on girls, but he had a feeling that he had hurt her and maybe she was crying. No this girl was tough. She was too strong to cry.

After school she was ready to head home. She couldn’t concentrate a hundred percent today. She was only able to concentrate ninety-seven percent. The rest three kept thinking about what Jason said.

She wouldn’t curse.

She wouldn’t curse.

But he was such a person that wanted to bring out the worst in her, but he wouldn’t win. Yes she didn’t have friends because she didn’t want friends. She wasn’t acting high proud like he said, she just didn’t want to be involved with any of them. She wasn’t a prude. She had something he didn’t have which was called manners.

She wasn’t stuck up. She was Kelly and she was herself. And there was nothing wrong with the way she dressed or spoke. She said it as it was. She wouldn’t let it get to her. She had heard a lot of things as a freshman and she just learnt to ignore that.

Wait!

Was that why no one came close to her? She wouldn’t think about that. Adriana was coming over today and no one would ruin it. Not even Jason. Hopefully after what happened in class he’d leave her alone. Why would he want to talk to her now?

She wasn’t sure if he knew her name or not.

What happened to all those years? She didn’t want someone like him in her life. Boys only wanted one thing and it was to fornicate. Just a few months, and she’d be out of here forever to live a life where she wasn’t surrounded by people like Jason.

Time for her to go home.

“Hey” Jason waved and Kelly paused in her walking. That was her mistake. She shook her head and continued walking.

“I’m sorry about today” he said walking after her.

“Leave me alone” she groaned making her way round the parking lot.

“Just tell me you accept my apology”.

“Just tell me what is it you want so you can leave me alone”.

“I just want to be your friend, but you’re making me look bad”.

“Are you a good person?” she asked.

He clenched his fists. He wasn’t going to say things again.

“You fornicate with a lot of girls” she stated turning to look at him. “So are you a good person?”

“Just say sex” he pleaded.

“Sex is what husband and wives do. Fornication is what people who aren’t married do. AKA what you and all those girls do. So you’re not a good person”.

“Have you had a boyfriend before?” he asked.

She adjusted her glasses. “I don’t see the need for a boyfriend. You guys just want to fornicate anyway”.

‘Maybe some good dick would shut you up’ he thought evilly. “Well as I was saying I just want to be your friend and that’s all. What are you doing tomorrow?”

She turned away and was walking again, but he ran after her.

“We could go out”.

“I don’t want to go anywhere with you”.

“Let me drop you off and we can plan how tomorrow will be”.

“I don’t want to go anywhere with you. Should you be really seen with me? Weird Kelly…..”

“That’s your name?” he cut her off”. “Nice”.

“Listen Jason…….”

“Let me drop you off. And let’s hang out tomorrow and if you still hate me, I’ll leave you alone”.

“I doubt that”.

“You accept?” he asked hopeful.

“No. Now go away!”

“Just one outing and you’ll see I’m not a bad person, and you can prove me wrong that you’re not stuck up, and even though you’re an introvert you need someone”.

Kelly was silent.

“Now Kelly, can I drive you home?”

“So tell me about you” Jason said when he couldn’t stand the silence anymore.

“I’m Kelly, your classmate. Keep driving” she said bluntly.

“I’m Jason Angle” he began.

“Everybody knows” she rolled her eyes.

“What’s your problem? I’m just trying to be nice”.

“I don’t want you to be nice. Just be the way you were before. Ignore me!”

“Well I don’t want to ignore you” he said.

“…….anymore” she added.

“So are you going anywhere tomorrow?”

“Library” she replied.

“Should I pick you up?”

“No!” she screamed.

“What’s wrong?” he asked confused.

“Nothing” she lied. A boy like him coming to her house. Her mother would be very angry with her and at him. She warned her against people like this. “Just meet me at the library”.

‘That’s weird’ he thought. Well earlier he did pick up weird Kelly so…..

“Drop me off here” she said.

“Is this your house?” he asked.

“No” she replied. “It’s not far from here. I’ll walk” she was already opening her door.

“If it isn’t far, let me drop you off” he smiled his dazzling smile, but she just opened her door.

“Tomorrow” she said and walked away. She sighed as he drove past.

“I’m back mum” she said as she entered.

Raising her head up, it wasn’t her mum, but Adriana. She was still the same she was when she left. Light skin glowing, still tall and very beautiful. She was the same, and at the same time still different.

There was a time when they matched, hair up and the same clothes. Their mum hated their body being opened, but Adriana didn’t care anymore. She was in tight pants, her hair down, makeup, and a very exposing shirt.

“Kelly!” her sister squealed running up to her and she hugged her.

She even had fake nails. Her mother wouldn’t be happy.

“I missed you” Adriana whispered softly and she looked like she was going to cry.

“I missed you too” she whispered looking round making sure her mother wasn’t close by. Her mother had sat her down for a talk when Adriana left.

How she couldn’t talk to her sister and tell her what she was doing was bad. How could she let her sister go astray? The normal talk, and she said she wasn’t happy with Adriana and she expected her to take her side.

Adriana cupped her face.

“You look just like mum” she said trying not to cry.

“You look really different. It’s nice”.

“Thanks. You’re just like a replica of her. And you continue to take after her. You’re like a mini version of her”.

“Adriana, why are you here?” Kelly asked.

“I missed you guys. I wanted to see you”.

She looked round again. “Nothing is wrong, but…..”

“Adriana, Kelly” their mum said from the railing, and both looked up to see their mother there.

“You’re here” her mother stated.

“I guess that’s it” Adriana said.

‘This is going to be a disaster’ Kelly thought.

“Dinner is ready Kelly. We were waiting for you”.

“Okay….”

“Go get set for dinner” she instructed.

“Yes ma’am”.

Getting back they should just have hung a sign that there’s tension here. She was the black sheep of the family so….this was going to be a disaster and mum would want her to support her instead of her wayward sister.

“So Adriana where do you stay now?” their mother asked coldly.

“I stay with a friend in her apartment” she replied also cold.

“School?”

“I’m in college thanks for asking”.

“How are you affording tuition?” her mother asked, pausing in her eating.

“I work multiple jobs mum. What did you think?!” she snapped.

“Why are you here Adriana? We were doing okay by ourselves” her mother sighed.

“I came here because I missed you guys, but I can see now that you don’t miss me. Your blood daughter” she said hurt.

“You stopped being my daughter when you disgraced your family” her mother said standing up, noisily pushing her chair back.

Kelly tried to keep calm.

“And you didn’t apologize. I didn’t ask you to leave that was your decision”.

“You pushed me to leave. How could I stay when I wasn’t feeling loved?”

“You expect me to just overlook things like that, after what you did? Look at yourself Adriana” she said pointing to her.

Adriana looked to Kelly who had her head down.

“Even your sister can’t look at you” her mother whispered.

Adriana was quiet. Her eyes down.

“I’m going to bed. You should too Kelly” and she made her way up the stairs.

Kelly looked up when she was gone and her sister didn’t look at her. She picked her plate up and she made her way to the sink.

“You know you’re turning into her” Adriana stated getting her younger’s sister attention.

“Pardon?” she asked.

“You’re turning into her. You’re almost a little her. Judgmental and pushing people away”.

“Adriana” Kelly tried.

“You’re going to turn into her if you don’t get up and take charge of your life. You’re going to be here for the rest of your life. Just the two of you because no one is good enough for you”.

“So I should go out and live my life just like you did” Kelly stated.

Adriana sighed and picked up her purse. Kelly made no move to stop her. She was tired of two of them arguing about the other to her.

“I made a mistake Kelly and just make sure you won’t” she said.

“Goodnight Adriana” she stood up and hugged her sister.

“Goodnight Kel” she said giving her a kiss and she was out the door which Kelly had to lock.

Kelly sighed making her way up the stairs to her room. The dinner had been a total disaster. She wasn’t sure if they could be the happy family they were.

And Adriana should really watched what she said. She wasn’t judgmental. It was already out there, so what should she do with it? And she didn’t push people away. They were just bad enough that she didn’t want to be corrupted. Yes.

Now she was going to bed and hopefully tomorrow would be better than that.

On a more positive note, her sister was alive and healthy. Even though she dressed like all those girls, which was might have been the reason for her mother blowing up.

There was a slight chance that it would work out okay.

Jason walked into the library and smiled at the librarian. It was empty except for the librarian and maybe other workers, but he had to because…..Kelly yes! Kelly was a little early bird, and he knew he made the right choice when he saw her familiar bun.

“Good morning Kelly” he greeted.

She snapped her book shut and looked up at him.

“What are you doing here?!” she demanded. She really thought that he wouldn’t come at all. Imagine that. Jason Angle in a library.

He pulled a chair back and sat down in front of her.

“I told you that we’d hang out today and you agreed” he reminded her.

“I really didn’t think that you would come to a library. Isn’t the field or parties more of your scene?”

“Just because I do that doesn’t mean I don’t study too, but not just here”.

“What’s your strongest subject then?”

“Math” he replied.

At least they were conversing.

“So where did we stop yesterday?” he asked.

Kelly groaned loudly.

“Well I’m Jason Angle”.

“I’m Kelly Blinch. You would know if you…..forget it” she sighed opening her book. She didn’t even want to talk to him.

“Have any siblings?”

“Yes” she replied placing her cheek on her palm bored.

“I’m an only child. So you can say I get all their love”.

“Sure” she said flatly.

“So a sister or a brother?”

“A sister” she replied.

“What about her?” he leaned forward interested.

That caused her to sit up and she looked uncomfortable. “I don’t want to talk about her” she whispered.

Okay he was really sure that this was the first time he heard her talk this soft.

“Okay, we’ll talk about something else”.

“Okay” she replied.

“So what’s your routine?” he asked.

“Come again?” she asked back.

“Your routine. You come off as a home to school then church repeat”.

“Then you’re not wrong” she stated simply.

“Wow!” he exclaimed.

“Am I that interesting?” she asked dryly.

“N-y…..” he cleared his throat. “Do you have a cellphone?”

“No. I see it as a distraction. You won’t be able to focus on your studies or anything if you have one”. Well that’s what her mother told her. So it was true. A lot of people were obsessed with their gadgets and could no longer walk straight.

Jason tried not to laugh. “So I see you have no social life” he stated.

“Like I said I don’t need friends” she reminded him.

“Everyone needs someone. Even the strongest”.

“Tell me what you want Jason”.

‘To win a bet honestly and you’re making it difficult’. He didn’t like being around her just like the way she felt. She should just stop playing hard to get and this would be over, but now he was curious.

“I want to know more about you really” he said solemnly.

She was silent.

“So you have a boyfriend?” It was a really funny question and he knew the answer.

“No” she replied.

“Have you ever liked someone?”

She was silent and he couldn’t laugh until she said something. “Well….”

“Well what?” he cut her off like an excited child.

“Well I’m only human so there has to be a time I develop feelings for someone”.

‘Can you fucking talk normal?!’ he yelled frustrated in his head. “Really? Who?” he inquired.

“None of your business” she replied vehemently.

“Have you had any thoughts concerning him……or her?” Just to be safe. He wanted to know if the battle was already lost before he begun.

“I would never have carnal thoughts about someone. That is immoral and I am not like you”.

“What?!” he snapped.

She just had to ruin it when they were actually on the same page.

“Don’t you have carnal thoughts about the girls you for….?”

“Just say sleep with or sex. It is not that hard” he whined.

She huffed and looked down obviously embarrassed.

“Is that why you dress like that then?”

She looked up at him and just stared.

“That’s why you dress like a grandma?” he laughed.

“I dress modest. I cover up and don’t open up my body because of people like you, so you won’t have carnal thoughts”.

‘Just say you’re flat’ he thought annoyed.

“I think we’re done here” she said pushing her chair back softly and walking away quickly. He took a deep breath and followed her outside.

“Why do you always keep running away? Are you scared I’ll do something to you?” he called at her retreating back.

She turned around and glared hard. If only she had a stone. She just realized what she had thought. How could she think of something so violent? All the more reason to stay away from him.

“I am not scared of you Jason!” she yelled.

“Really? Because you seem to have a lot of ideas in your head about a lot of things”.

“Leave me alone” she said turning around to storm off, but she felt hot and a weight released. Turning around, her hair was in her face. ‘How did…?’

“You should wear your hair down often. It suits you” he winked and walked away.

Kelly just stood there confused.

Jason got into his car with a smile. If plain-Jane wanted to play hard to get, he would take it to the next level. He was sure a guy had never looked her way. Just a little flirting and this nightmare would soon be over.

Kelly stood there the wind blowing her hair in her face. Did that…..boy know how hard it was to get all her hair in one place and then make it into a bun? He just undid all her hard work.

She’d just go home.

Turning around, she saw her reflection on the library window and really looked at herself. Not just the routine check she did every day.

Her hair was actually nice. But she didn’t care that much about physical appearance. She’d become obsessed with herself and that was bad. Over focused on her appearance would take all her time away from her studies, and she didn’t want to make an appearance in anyone’s thoughts.

She didn’t want to be vain.

But putting her hair down wouldn’t be a bad idea, but she was used to it being up. That was how her mother held her hair, and so did her sister and her also. It fit her perfectly and her mother liked it, so there was no need to change it.

She stood there and admired herself in the mirror for a while before she took her leave. When she got home, she would sit in her room and put her hair back in the normal style.

She didn’t like Jason or the very idea of him, but he was right about this one thing. But there was nothing she wanted to change about herself. She was okay the way she was and Jason could just be quiet.
