Chapter 1: Chapter 1
Boys liked girls. Theyâd show off to get the other genders attention. Show off their looks, cars and fancy material things. Just to get girls look their way. Some had it hard, others had it simple, while it just came natural to others.
Jason Angle.
The complete package.
Good looking, athletic, rich, smart, charismatic, funny, adventurous, has a way with words, loving, chivalric and a flirt and he knew it too.
Girls flocked around him and who was he not to enjoy it? He could have any girl he could basically want. The girls are nice and hang onto his every word. If someone was keeping a book about how many girls he had gone through, theyâd have almost all the girls in the school. They were so eager, even the ones that appeared so strong on the outside.
Who would say no when he just cracked a smile? Or ran a hand through his curls? Or showed off on the track? He was a catch and all the girls at the school knew it.
His friends nicknamed him lady-killer and he was living up to his name.
âSup Jasâ his friend said as he sat down by his side with the rest of their group.
âChadâ he replied.
âHowâs the lady-killer doing?â
âOkayâ he shrugged. âNothing muchâ.
âHow many girls have you gone through?â Chad asked out of the blue.
âYou know I lost count. Why are you asking?â Jason asked suspicious.
âI donât knowâ Chad shrugged.
âYes you do Chadâ another one of them cut in. âWe were playing a game Jas, using the yearbook to see who youâve gone through which is a decent amountâ.
âOf courseâ he said.
âAnd a name came upâ Chad interjected.
âWho?â Jason asked intrigued.
âA girlâŚwho Iâm sure Iâve never seen before, and surprisingly sheâs in our gradeâ.
âLet me see herâ Jason said holding his hand out for the book.
He unknowingly made a face when he saw her picture.
âWhatâs wrong Jason?â Chad smirked. âSheâs not terrible lookingâ.
âI know sheâs just ordinary looking. No wonder I havenât noticed herâ.
âKelly Blinchâ Chad began. âEighteen. Most likely to be stuck up forever and in your class. Funny I never noticed herâ.
âSo whatâs up with her?â
âHeck if I know. I didnât even know sheâs in my classâ.
âWhy did you bring her up?â
âHow about a little game?â he asked lowly.
âWhat game?â
âYou have the name lady-killer and Iâm sure Kelly dear wonât be any trouble. Everyone seems to like you, donât they?â
âSoâŚ.â
âShe wonât be a problemâ he completed.
The others just watched in anticipation.
âHave you seen her? She looks like sheâs desperate for it. Just one look for me and sheâll be melted chocolateâ.
âAnd you want to wager on that?â
âWhat does thatâŚ.?â
âI believe this one will be too much of a problem for you. She looks like she hasnât seen a dick before in her life. She looks like sheâd kill any boner. Look at her all plain, bad fashion sense and probably flatâ.
âMaking her more desperateâ Jason smiled.
âThen itâs settled. Make her fall in love with you for five thousandâ Chad said.
âIâll probably do it for free, but five thousand sounds goodâ.
âDealâ and they shook on it.
During class, he found the girl. Always at the front of the class and he was always at the back, so no wonder he didnât notice her. It was always the ones that were so enthusiastic about school that sat in the front. Know it all. Thatâs where their seats were. She was probably a big know it all and a bookworm.
Well he had his work cut out for him and just his luck that the bell rung. Itâd be really easy.
He waited till everyone was out, some girls waving at him and he had to wave back. The girlâŚ..whatâs her name? He couldnât remember.
Annie?
Kelly?
Heâd try both. She was slowly arranging her things in her backpack.
âHeyâ he said leaning down in front of her table.
She didnât raise her head though. âFucking prudeâ.
She put all her things in her back and finally looked up.
âWhat?â she asked flatly.
âRude againâ he thought.
âIâm Jason and you areâŚ..â
âWhat do you want?â she said bluntly.
âYour nameâ he replied. And sheâs meant to be smart.
âWhat for?â she asked adjusting her glasses.
âSo I can know youâ he replied fighting so his smile would stay in place. Chad was right about this girl, but she was still annoying and really bitchy right now.
âHow will that be relevant to both of us?â she quirked a brow.
âI just wanted to know my classmateâ that was true. âI know almost everyone in my class and I donât know you. Are you new? You just blend in with the shadows or something?
She sighed and stood up.
âIâve been in the same class with you since we were freshmen and youâre here senior year, and you suddenly want to talk to me. No way. Byeâ she said slinging her backpack over her shoulder.
âWell itâs not my fault. I told you that you blend into the shadowsâ.
She rolled her eyes. âThank you for wasting my time. And please donât talk to me againâ.
Okay that was a serious slap to the face. A girl like her should be happy that a guy like him was talking to her. Well he wouldnât chase after her. Itâd be really weird. Chad would laugh his ass off when he heard this. Playing hard to get. It was new for him, but sheâd crack soon.
Well it was funny that they had been together since freshmen year. She never came up which was really weird. And if he was being honest, she was the first girl that was brushing him off. Other girls did that though, but it was just an act to show that they werenât easy.
âHey!â
Kelly turned to see the same guy from class.
âWhat do you want?â she asked not pausing in her walk.
âIâm offering you a rideâ he replied.
âI can walk just fine. Wonât it be a big hit to your reputation taking me home?â
âWhat does that mean?â he asked confused.
âIt means a big NO! Now I told you to stop talking to meâ she said still walking, but he was still driving.
âWell you said that weâve been classmates since freshman year and I know a lot of peopleâŚ.and I want to know you tooâ.
âArenât your friendsâŚ.the whole school Iâm sure, enough for you?â she inquires still looking up ahead.
Sheâs fucking impossible.
âWell we can beâŚ..â
âNo!â
That was quick. âWhy not?â he asked trying not to yell. He was being nice.
âBecause I know youâ she stated.
âBut weâve neverâŚ..â
âI know you since freshmen year and till now. Your reputationâ and she actually made air quotes.
âWhatâŚ.â
âYes your reputationâ she said. âAnd I want no business with youâŚ..Jasonâ she said his name with absolute disgust.
âWhat do you know exactly?â he asked. At least she had stopped walking.
âYouâre promiscuousâ she stated.
âSo that means you have been watching me?â he teased.
He saw her hands tighten on her bag strap and he thought sheâd hit him with it.
âI havenât been watching you as you claim. You arenât so greatâ.
âGood to knowâ he smiled. She had actually used promiscuous. That was really funny. âLet me give you a rideâ.
âNoâ she said walking away again.
âCâmon weâre going the same wayâ.
âNo weâre notâ she argued.
âLet me give you a ride and you tell me how you know meâ.
She paused and glared at him, but she relented and rounded the front and opened the door and sat down. Yes guys with cars got girls.
âIâm only here because Iâm tired of walkingâ she stated.
âSure you areâ he said.
âYes now drive. I donât want to be close to you any longerâ.
âSo whatâs your name?â Jason asked.
âWhy do you want to know?â she asked.
âYou know mineâ she replied.
âBecause everyone talks about you, so even though I donât want to hear about your conquestsâ, she dragged that word âI have no choiceâ.
He laughed. âCome on, tell me what you knowâ.
âI know youâre Jason Angle and the person everyone seems to likeâ.
âIncluding you?â he joked.
âI do not like youâ she said looking him in the eye.
âWhy?â he asked really curious. How can she not like him?
âYouâre the embodiment of everything I hateâ she replied bluntly.
Jason stepped on the brake and took a deep breath. He really wanted to tell her to get out of his car, but he needed to be nice. He had his eye on the price.
âBet no one has ever told you that, huh?â she asked getting her bag and moving to unlock the door.
âWhich is what exactly?â he whispered.
âYouâre unserious academic wise. Youâre promiscuous. You donât really care about anything do you? You guys are all about partying, drinking and not focusing on the consequences. Keep fornicating until you get somethingâ she opened her door.
âI donât know what youâre planning, but you wonât win. Do not talk to me, unless Iâll tell the copsâ.
She didnât slam the door.
âFuckingâŚ..â
Heâd never call a female that word. Heâd never do that.
Why was she talking like that though? She didnât know him. All that stuff was just misplaced rage. She was just angry because she didnât have a social life. He took a deep breath.
She was just playing hard together. He was Jason Angle, the Lady-killer, athletic, good-looking and he could have any girl he wanted. Even a plain-Jane like her. And he got good grades. Heâd make her eat her words.
Heâd show her and he put his car in motion. Chad would laugh his ass off when he heard this, but this was only the beginning.
âGood evening mumâ she said as she approached her door.
A similar woman stood there. Same hair, and same clothes, and the same face, but her arms folded.
âYouâre lateâ she stated.
âI got held up. It wonât happen againâ.
âWhat held you up?â her mother inquired.
âI stayed for more readingâ.
âWhatâs in your book that you canât read at home?â
âI lost track of time. Iâm sorryâ.
Her mother stepped aside and she walked in.
âGet set for dinnerâ she instructed.
âYes maâamâ and she headed upstairs.
Today was really weird. Of all people to talk to her today, Jason Angle. She wasnât meant to curse, but if she did, she had a lot of things to say to him.
He doesnât talk to her and now he was just wants to talk to her just like that. Boys like him were dangerous. They rang a lot of alarm bells. Who did he think he was? Just coming to talk to her like that. He was really proud.
She never wanted to associate with people like that. Basically the whole school was like that, thatâs why she kept to herself. She didnât want them to rub off on her.
She should get to the table or her mother wouldnât be pleased. A quick shower and change of clothes were in order.
âHow was school?â her mother asked.
âFineâ she replied.
âSenior year is a very dangerous year and you have to be focused. Donât fall prey to all those wolvesâ.
âYes maâamâ.
âI need you to promise me Kelly that you wonât be like your sisterâ.
âYes maâam. I wonâtâ.
âGood to hear Kelly. Now eat your food and go to bedâ.
âYes maâamâ.
Dinner was nice. She sat on her bed with a book in her lap. She was happy with what she had really. Just her and her mum. Her sister had moved out after what she did came to light. She didnât know who her father was, but sometimes she was lonely.
Like really lonely.
Her sister was no longer here, so there was no one she could talk to before bed. She didnât have a phone, so she couldnât call to talk to her. And there was no need to call anyway. Adriana had disgraced all of them.
Even if she tried, her mother would somehow find out.
There was a knock on the door.
âEnterâ she said putting her book away.
âKellyâ she said softly.
âYes mumâ she replied.
âI just got off the phone. Your sister is coming for a visit tomorrowâ she stated flatly.
Kelly tried not to smile. But her sister would be coming for a visit after a very long time. Was it a year?
âOkayâ she stated.
âSo youâll be back early tomorrow? No extra readingâ.
âYes maâamâ.
âAfter a long time? What does she want?â she asked.
âWeâll find out tomorrowâ and she was already at the door.
âGoodnightâ she said closing the door softly.
âGoodnight mumâ she said.
When she was sure her mother was gone, she smiled. Her sister would be coming over tomorrow. After a very long time. She missed her a lot and tomorrow sheâd see her. But still she was mad at her. After what she did and she just left like that without apologizing.
She had left them. Left her, her very own sister. Who she promised that no matter what that theyâd always be together. She was a liar who only cared about themselves. She was just like the rest in school. She was already in senior year, close to graduation and when everything just got bad.
She threw her life away. Drinking, partying, and hanging out with the wrong crowd. Now look where that got her.
She turned her lamps off and rest her head on her pillows.
