Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Boys liked girls. They’d show off to get the other genders attention. Show off their looks, cars and fancy material things. Just to get girls look their way. Some had it hard, others had it simple, while it just came natural to others.

Jason Angle.

The complete package.

Good looking, athletic, rich, smart, charismatic, funny, adventurous, has a way with words, loving, chivalric and a flirt and he knew it too.

Girls flocked around him and who was he not to enjoy it? He could have any girl he could basically want. The girls are nice and hang onto his every word. If someone was keeping a book about how many girls he had gone through, they’d have almost all the girls in the school. They were so eager, even the ones that appeared so strong on the outside.

Who would say no when he just cracked a smile? Or ran a hand through his curls? Or showed off on the track? He was a catch and all the girls at the school knew it.

His friends nicknamed him lady-killer and he was living up to his name.

“Sup Jas” his friend said as he sat down by his side with the rest of their group.

“Chad” he replied.

“How’s the lady-killer doing?”

“Okay” he shrugged. “Nothing much”.

“How many girls have you gone through?” Chad asked out of the blue.

“You know I lost count. Why are you asking?” Jason asked suspicious.

“I don’t know” Chad shrugged.

“Yes you do Chad” another one of them cut in. “We were playing a game Jas, using the yearbook to see who you’ve gone through which is a decent amount”.

“Of course” he said.

“And a name came up” Chad interjected.

“Who?” Jason asked intrigued.

“A girl…who I’m sure I’ve never seen before, and surprisingly she’s in our grade”.

“Let me see her” Jason said holding his hand out for the book.

He unknowingly made a face when he saw her picture.

“What’s wrong Jason?” Chad smirked. “She’s not terrible looking”.

“I know she’s just ordinary looking. No wonder I haven’t noticed her”.

“Kelly Blinch” Chad began. “Eighteen. Most likely to be stuck up forever and in your class. Funny I never noticed her”.

“So what’s up with her?”

“Heck if I know. I didn’t even know she’s in my class”.

“Why did you bring her up?”

“How about a little game?” he asked lowly.

“What game?”

“You have the name lady-killer and I’m sure Kelly dear won’t be any trouble. Everyone seems to like you, don’t they?”

“So….”

“She won’t be a problem” he completed.

The others just watched in anticipation.

“Have you seen her? She looks like she’s desperate for it. Just one look for me and she’ll be melted chocolate”.

“And you want to wager on that?”

“What does that….?”

“I believe this one will be too much of a problem for you. She looks like she hasn’t seen a dick before in her life. She looks like she’d kill any boner. Look at her all plain, bad fashion sense and probably flat”.

“Making her more desperate” Jason smiled.

“Then it’s settled. Make her fall in love with you for five thousand” Chad said.

“I’ll probably do it for free, but five thousand sounds good”.

“Deal” and they shook on it.

During class, he found the girl. Always at the front of the class and he was always at the back, so no wonder he didn’t notice her. It was always the ones that were so enthusiastic about school that sat in the front. Know it all. That’s where their seats were. She was probably a big know it all and a bookworm.

Well he had his work cut out for him and just his luck that the bell rung. It’d be really easy.

He waited till everyone was out, some girls waving at him and he had to wave back. The girl…..what’s her name? He couldn’t remember.

Annie?

Kelly?

He’d try both. She was slowly arranging her things in her backpack.

“Hey” he said leaning down in front of her table.

She didn’t raise her head though. ‘Fucking prude’.

She put all her things in her back and finally looked up.

“What?” she asked flatly.

‘Rude again’ he thought.

“I’m Jason and you are…..”

“What do you want?” she said bluntly.

“Your name” he replied. And she’s meant to be smart.

“What for?” she asked adjusting her glasses.

“So I can know you” he replied fighting so his smile would stay in place. Chad was right about this girl, but she was still annoying and really bitchy right now.

“How will that be relevant to both of us?” she quirked a brow.

“I just wanted to know my classmate” that was true. “I know almost everyone in my class and I don’t know you. Are you new? You just blend in with the shadows or something?

She sighed and stood up.

“I’ve been in the same class with you since we were freshmen and you’re here senior year, and you suddenly want to talk to me. No way. Bye” she said slinging her backpack over her shoulder.

“Well it’s not my fault. I told you that you blend into the shadows”.

She rolled her eyes. “Thank you for wasting my time. And please don’t talk to me again”.

Okay that was a serious slap to the face. A girl like her should be happy that a guy like him was talking to her. Well he wouldn’t chase after her. It’d be really weird. Chad would laugh his ass off when he heard this. Playing hard to get. It was new for him, but she’d crack soon.

Well it was funny that they had been together since freshmen year. She never came up which was really weird. And if he was being honest, she was the first girl that was brushing him off. Other girls did that though, but it was just an act to show that they weren’t easy.

“Hey!”

Kelly turned to see the same guy from class.

“What do you want?” she asked not pausing in her walk.

“I’m offering you a ride” he replied.

“I can walk just fine. Won’t it be a big hit to your reputation taking me home?”

“What does that mean?” he asked confused.

“It means a big NO! Now I told you to stop talking to me” she said still walking, but he was still driving.

“Well you said that we’ve been classmates since freshman year and I know a lot of people….and I want to know you too”.

“Aren’t your friends….the whole school I’m sure, enough for you?” she inquires still looking up ahead.

She’s fucking impossible.

“Well we can be…..”

“No!”

That was quick. “Why not?” he asked trying not to yell. He was being nice.

“Because I know you” she stated.

“But we’ve never…..”

“I know you since freshmen year and till now. Your reputation” and she actually made air quotes.

“What….”

“Yes your reputation” she said. “And I want no business with you…..Jason” she said his name with absolute disgust.

“What do you know exactly?” he asked. At least she had stopped walking.

“You’re promiscuous” she stated.

“So that means you have been watching me?” he teased.

He saw her hands tighten on her bag strap and he thought she’d hit him with it.

“I haven’t been watching you as you claim. You aren’t so great”.

“Good to know” he smiled. She had actually used promiscuous. That was really funny. “Let me give you a ride”.

“No” she said walking away again.

“C’mon we’re going the same way”.

“No we’re not” she argued.

“Let me give you a ride and you tell me how you know me”.

She paused and glared at him, but she relented and rounded the front and opened the door and sat down. Yes guys with cars got girls.

“I’m only here because I’m tired of walking” she stated.

“Sure you are” he said.

“Yes now drive. I don’t want to be close to you any longer”.

“So what’s your name?” Jason asked.

“Why do you want to know?” she asked.

“You know mine” she replied.

“Because everyone talks about you, so even though I don’t want to hear about your conquests”, she dragged that word “I have no choice”.

He laughed. “Come on, tell me what you know”.

“I know you’re Jason Angle and the person everyone seems to like”.

“Including you?” he joked.

“I do not like you” she said looking him in the eye.

“Why?” he asked really curious. How can she not like him?

“You’re the embodiment of everything I hate” she replied bluntly.

Jason stepped on the brake and took a deep breath. He really wanted to tell her to get out of his car, but he needed to be nice. He had his eye on the price.

“Bet no one has ever told you that, huh?” she asked getting her bag and moving to unlock the door.

“Which is what exactly?” he whispered.

“You’re unserious academic wise. You’re promiscuous. You don’t really care about anything do you? You guys are all about partying, drinking and not focusing on the consequences. Keep fornicating until you get something” she opened her door.

“I don’t know what you’re planning, but you won’t win. Do not talk to me, unless I’ll tell the cops”.

She didn’t slam the door.

“Fucking…..”

He’d never call a female that word. He’d never do that.

Why was she talking like that though? She didn’t know him. All that stuff was just misplaced rage. She was just angry because she didn’t have a social life. He took a deep breath.

She was just playing hard together. He was Jason Angle, the Lady-killer, athletic, good-looking and he could have any girl he wanted. Even a plain-Jane like her. And he got good grades. He’d make her eat her words.

He’d show her and he put his car in motion. Chad would laugh his ass off when he heard this, but this was only the beginning.

“Good evening mum” she said as she approached her door.

A similar woman stood there. Same hair, and same clothes, and the same face, but her arms folded.

“You’re late” she stated.

“I got held up. It won’t happen again”.

“What held you up?” her mother inquired.

“I stayed for more reading”.

“What’s in your book that you can’t read at home?”

“I lost track of time. I’m sorry”.

Her mother stepped aside and she walked in.

“Get set for dinner” she instructed.

“Yes ma’am” and she headed upstairs.

Today was really weird. Of all people to talk to her today, Jason Angle. She wasn’t meant to curse, but if she did, she had a lot of things to say to him.

He doesn’t talk to her and now he was just wants to talk to her just like that. Boys like him were dangerous. They rang a lot of alarm bells. Who did he think he was? Just coming to talk to her like that. He was really proud.

She never wanted to associate with people like that. Basically the whole school was like that, that’s why she kept to herself. She didn’t want them to rub off on her.

She should get to the table or her mother wouldn’t be pleased. A quick shower and change of clothes were in order.

“How was school?” her mother asked.

“Fine” she replied.

“Senior year is a very dangerous year and you have to be focused. Don’t fall prey to all those wolves”.

“Yes ma’am”.

“I need you to promise me Kelly that you won’t be like your sister”.

“Yes ma’am. I won’t”.

“Good to hear Kelly. Now eat your food and go to bed”.

“Yes ma’am”.

Dinner was nice. She sat on her bed with a book in her lap. She was happy with what she had really. Just her and her mum. Her sister had moved out after what she did came to light. She didn’t know who her father was, but sometimes she was lonely.

Like really lonely.

Her sister was no longer here, so there was no one she could talk to before bed. She didn’t have a phone, so she couldn’t call to talk to her. And there was no need to call anyway. Adriana had disgraced all of them.

Even if she tried, her mother would somehow find out.

There was a knock on the door.

“Enter” she said putting her book away.

“Kelly” she said softly.

“Yes mum” she replied.

“I just got off the phone. Your sister is coming for a visit tomorrow” she stated flatly.

Kelly tried not to smile. But her sister would be coming for a visit after a very long time. Was it a year?

“Okay” she stated.

“So you’ll be back early tomorrow? No extra reading”.

“Yes ma’am”.

“After a long time? What does she want?” she asked.

“We’ll find out tomorrow” and she was already at the door.

“Goodnight” she said closing the door softly.

“Goodnight mum” she said.

When she was sure her mother was gone, she smiled. Her sister would be coming over tomorrow. After a very long time. She missed her a lot and tomorrow she’d see her. But still she was mad at her. After what she did and she just left like that without apologizing.

She had left them. Left her, her very own sister. Who she promised that no matter what that they’d always be together. She was a liar who only cared about themselves. She was just like the rest in school. She was already in senior year, close to graduation and when everything just got bad.

She threw her life away. Drinking, partying, and hanging out with the wrong crowd. Now look where that got her.

She turned her lamps off and rest her head on her pillows.
