Chapter 20: Chapter 20
… You are my untold desire…
Adrian POV:-
I had already lost my mind after hearing they kissed and when she burned her diary before me, it shut down my senses and I ended up speaking words I didn’t intend to speak but our argument was cut off when Brother’s voice came.
“Evelyn.” My breath hitched with intense stress on my mind, shivering when his stern voice came.
“Lawrence?” Turning her head, Evelyn moved to him, leaving my hand on her wrist which unfortunately Brother noticed.
“What happened? I heard a noise.” Brother asked, hands in his pocket, definitely not pleased by what he saw.
“Well, it’s your fault.” Evelyn frowned, folding her arms, glaring at him but I was taken aback.
“My? Why?” He asked, narrowing his eyes.
“You haven't bought my dress yet. Aren’t you? If Adrian hadn’t stopped me, you better be prepared for a scolding, MIster.” She warned as my heart sighed internally in relief.
I didn’t expect her but then again, she didn’t have a choice either.
“Oh… Umm. I was just going to. Ask him.” Brother chuckled nervously, turning to me.
“Yes. He told me or else.” She warned.
“Okay, Okay, I am sorry.” He laughed and she couldn’t maintain her fake anger acting and ended up chuckling as well.
“Yeah, you better get it today.” She chuckled and seeing the devotion flickering in her eyes for him made me unintentionally envious.
“Yes, Ma’am.”
She.. never looked at me like this. She always avoided me, not a single eye contact but how she looked into his eyes with dedication made me throb.
“Ah, Lawrence, could you get my phone from the room also?” She asked sweetly.
“Sure.” With a shrug, he left us alone again.
The moment he was no longer there, her smile faded, returning me a glare.
“I am warning you, Adrian. If you ever dared to mention it or act as a hurdle in my marriage again, I will make sure you regret it.”
I felt my heartache when Evelyn gave me that coldly outraged look but it should be this way how I reacted emotionally.
Cursing under her breath, she walked away, leaving me alone in my miserable thoughts.
I can't feel like this, I am not allowed to feel anything for her now when I didn't back then when I had the chance.
I took a deep breath and calmed myself down. I never liked her, she is my sister in law. Nothing more, nothing less.
I should be happy that my brother's and his wife's relationship is going beautifully well.
I can't be a hindrance of their life, I have no rights to meddle in their life and cause chaos in it.
As I was lost in my thoughts, cursing myself and making my mind to keep my emotions at bay. Danielle came.
"Hey, Blind Brain" She said and clicked her tongue at me, dragging me from my thoughts.
"Hey…" I trailed off, not lifting my head from the ground.
“You okay, Adrian?” She asked, stopping in her tracks, arching an eyebrow at me.
“My, are you vexed about me, Pink Trash?” I smirked, diverting my mind instantly from worrisome thought. She pouted and sat beside me.
Danielle was always a close friend. Back when her biological parents were alive, we were classmates but then Aunt and Uncle adopted her as they cannot have a child on their own and then after it all we did was to argue.
But not personally. I know her secrets after all.
"How'd your exams go?" I asked her.
"Fine. What about you? How's your work going?" She asked with a smile.
"As usual," I replied. I and Danielle always call each other with weird nicknames.
"Did you like the sweet prank we pulled on you?" I asked, teasing her, hoping it could shift my mind.
"Oh, shut up. It must be your stupid idea to do this, isn't it?" She hissed.
"Ah, I should have recorded that look on your face." I sighed.
"Argh, shut up!" She said, irritated as I laughed a little.
...That's how we are...
She glared at me but it soon dispersed as she called me, "Adrian..." I hummed, looking at her cautiously because it's rare when she calls my name,
"Did you ever feel anything for-"
She was cut off when I waved my hand, motioning her to stop as I received a call from Evelyn.
"Ah, Wait a minute," I said. I was bewildered at this.
I picked the call as I heard her voice, "Come to the rooftop." She simply demanded.
Being perplexed, I stood up and went to the rooftop.
I saw Evelyn standing there. It's the same place she confessed her love for me three years ago and I rejected her without thinking about her feelings
"Adrian." She called my name and I narrowed my eyes on her. She gave me a cold look and began to say,
"Look, I am fortunate to have Lawrence as my husband and I don't want to ruin my relationship. This happened for the first and last time.” She began to warn.
“That's why I want you to forget the fact that I used to like you. I want you to delete those texts I sent you. Anything related to us. Do you understand?" She ordered me.
“Okay…” I gave her a nod and turned to leave, unable to bear anymore.
The austere demeanor of her elicited a feeling of heartbreak in my heart and made me realize how she felt when I rejected her.
With that heavy heart, I walked away. I opened my phone and read the conversation I had with her, the times where she pleaded with me to give her a chance.
The time when she could be mine but I lost it.
I sighed deeply, I just couldn't bring myself to. What's the point of feeling this way when I broke it when I had the chance?
I hid the conversation but didn't delete it.
On my way, I bump into Brother. He frowned at me and said,
"That's where you are.! I was looking for you! Come let's go!" I smiled and went with him.
We were on the way as Brother spoke up.
“LIsten, Adrian.” My heart skipped a beat the way he called my name dominantly. Brother would kill me if he came to know.
He would blame me for it because I had the opportunity to speak up, to let everyone know but I remained silent. He would kill me for being a coward.
“Yeah…?”
“Listen man, I know we are quite close with Evenlyn from the very start but… things are different now.” He sighed, taking a turn.
“I.. don’t understand.” I mumbled, not lifting my head, hiding my quivering hands.
“You know I am a possessive man and I did not like the way you held her wrist. I expect you to refrain from touching her from now on.” He warned seriously.
My throat dried, nodding quickly, “I understand, Brother. I am sorry. She was just running so.. I..” I paused, unsure what to say.
“Be careful next time, okay? She is your sister-in-law now.” He said, smiling faintly at me.
“Yes.” I nodded.
“Good.” Pleased at my response, he gave my shoulder a pat.
I will never allow myself to fall for Evelyn.
“We are here, now help me.” He chuckled as we both got out and I was unsure of what to do but I stuck by his side nonetheless.
But the thoughts which interrupted my mind were unbearable. Should I tell him? No. He won’t say anything to Evelyn but all of us had to bear his wrath.
He wouldn’t show Evelyn his scary side, he would never but I don’t want to confront it either.
“Where are you lost? Come.” He called.
“Yeah, Coming.” Clearing my throat, I took a deep breath.
It would be better if I pretend none of it existed. Me and Evelyn were nothing. She never liked me, I never rejected her. None of it happened.
We went to a boutique after I gathered my thoughts and determination.
Brother spent hours deciding on a dress while I was sitting on the couch.
"You could have taken Danielle with you." I groan in annoyance.
"I am also tired and as for Danielle, You know her fashion sense is discordant to Evelyn’s." I nodded as I lay back on the sofa again and after going through a series of gowns, Lawrence finally found a gown for her.
He smiled widely and exhaled in relief.
"Finally.." We both said at the same time and finally came back after a devilishly long time.
But that didn't remain long until we got a call from the office and left immediately for work.
