Chapter 19: Chapter 19

... I thought the rays of light that soar through the sky are meaningless. I thought life made no sense. I thought I'll be lost in that abyss forever. But then, I caught a glimpse of you and that's enough for me to be guided...

Lawrence POV:-

With my heart, filled with content, I walked out of the room and went to the living room in search of Adrian. I just can't stop smiling.

Sirens are ringing in my ears making me insensate to my surroundings. The images of us are popping into my mind giving me a recurring feeling of gratification.

I still can't believe I kissed her, never have I ever thought it would happen so soon, the rapture to have her beside me is bliss, my exhilaration couldn't be explained by words.

“Calm down, Lawrence, Calm down.”

I never thought she would also get attached to me and feel the same rapid emotions of endearment, I have begun to feel for her.

I walked inside the living room and saw Adrian, deep in thoughts, it's unorthodox coming from Adrian.

“Hey.” I called but no response came.

His chill demeanor is not the same ever since the wedding, as if he was deep in thoughts he wanted to speak but couldn't and they are tensing him.

“Adrian?” I walked towards him and shook his shoulder.

“Huh?” He snapped from his thoughts and looked at me with a bewildered look.

"You okay, Adrian?" I asked.

"Yeah... I am fine." He replied in a mumbled.

"You seem lost." I said.

"Just the stress of work, leave it." He replied, passing a smile.

I shrugged, "If you say so." I just chuckled slightly and sat beside him.

"What happened? Are you still stuck with the prank you did with Danielle?" Adrian asked, narrowing his eyes in perplexity.

My smile turned into a grin. "No," I replied.

"Then?" He asked, raising his eyebrow, a smirk coming to his lips.

"I kissed her," I said as my heart fluttered with glee. Adrian's eyes widened with daze.

"What? Really? When?" He asked in disbelief, not believing my words but I felt like he was not happy. Silly.

"Yeah, we did. Just now," My voice was filled with mirth, laughing a little.

His smile grew wide as he congratulated me. "Woah... Congrats." He trailed off as if he was not happy about it.

I laughed a little, "Thanks... Man.. I never thought we would progress so quickly." I said with a sigh of relief.

"Me too." He mused. holding his chin, lost in thoughts.

“Are you okay, Man?” I asked in bafflement.

“Yeah, Umm… things are progressing real quick, you know. Need time to wrap my mind around it.” He hummed, lowering his gaze.

“I can understand, don’t vex.” I smiled, patting his back.

"By the way, I am here because I want you to go with me to help find the dress." I said.

Putting my hand on my neck nervously, knowing the date of Reception is coming soon and I still haven't bought a dress for Evelyn yet.

"You haven't bought a dress yet?" Adrian asked, upset by my lack of responsibility.

I passed him a faint smile, "Sorry. I have to get it before the reception." I said.

He sighed, "That's so of you."

"Hey! What do you mean by this?" I asked with a frown.

"This." He said. I sighed and stood up and left before saying,

"I'll be back. Then we'll leave," Adrian nodded and I left to get ready.

Evelyn POV:-

“Okay, Evelyn. Every couple kisses. Every couple does. Act normal.”

After calming myself from the encounter I had with Lawrence which left me dazed and enthralled in the enticement emitting from me for him which is so unbelievable, I can't believe I have bound myself with Lawrence so quickly.

Maybe I needed a hand all this time to take me out from the gloom of my heart and show me radiance.

And now when entered my life as a light of guidance, I couldn't help but to hold his hand to earn an eternal reprieve from my misery and live a life of smiles.

Maybe that's all I needed- Lawrence's presence.

I walked down the sheer determination of extirpating all the feelings I used to feel about Adrian. I am going to start my life anew with the feeling of love and affection- only for Lawrence.

I walked into the living room and without acknowledging Adrian's presence, I walked towards the fireplace and threw my diary in the fire.

And let all those irrational feelings inside me vanish along with it.

I don't want any of this to become an obstacle in my marriage.

I turned and saw Adrian giving me a surprised look.

“Evelyn.” Turning, I saw Adrian walking to me.

“What?” I asked coldly, not bothering to pay heed to him.

“You sure are living your fairytale with my brother, Aren’t you?” He smirked coldly, folding his arms.

“I believe it’s none of your concern. With whom I am happy or not.” I retorted, rolling my eyes off.

“It became my business when it involved my brother.” He growled, taking a step closer.

“Why would it? Who are you in the first place?” I scoffed, mouth gaping in his disbelief, by his words.

“Then why don’t you tell brother that you-” My heart skipped a beat in dread as I hit his chest to push him back.

“That was two years ago, Adrian. Life goes on, people move on. It was nothing and never will be.” I whispered. I never expected to see Adrian react this way.

He never cared, always been unaffected then what is happening to him now?

“If it was nothing then why are you avoiding me all this time? Ever since then you have been distant and now… you are so far.” He whispered back in a cracked voice and I was unsure of how to deal with it.

“When I was near? What is wrong with you, Adrian? Why are you reacting like this?” I gasped, repugnance evoking in me.

“Or is my felicity bothering you? Or does it hurt to find me near your brother? And even if it does, I don’t care. It’s your problem. I am happy with my husband, with my life, and with my marriage.” I scowled, unintentionally hitting him where it hurts the most.

“Why are you doing this? And if that is so then why don’t you tell him huh? Let’s see how this content will remain.” He growled, challenging me and deep down I know, Lawrence could bear anything.

But not the fact that I used to like his Brother, not someone else either but his own blood.

“What is wrong with you? Everyone has things they cannot share, secrets they keep. Why are you doing this?” I asked, disheartened in his demeanor, hurting me to find like this.

“What is wrong with me? What is wrong with you? You are burning that diary just because of me… And don’t you dare to lie. I know that you wrote about me in it or else you wouldn’t have-” He was about to growl in a slightly loud voice.

But, before it could go out of this room I grabbed his shirt, glaring at him, “Lower your voice, Adrian. I don’t want you to ruin my happy marriage.” I growled.

“Happy marriage?! Are you in love with Brother in just a few days? Are you that desperate for a man?” He mocked me, losing his mind by unknown emotions.

“Yes. I was. So what? Who are you to judge me? You are nothing to me, you no longer have any importance in my life.” I hissed, curling my hands in a fist to control myself and not speak something extreme.

“And listen carefully, you were never there. Never. So stop interfering in my life. You have no right to speak a word in my life.” I growled, pointing my finger at his chest.

“Whatever it was, it died the day I confessed and now I can date or marry whoever I want and you have no right to complain.” I continued, riled up at his ridiculous words.

“Anyone but my brother. You said things to me and now being a wife to my brother, huh?” He scowled, narrowing his eyes in ire.

“No, not but your brother. I can date anyone I want. Yes, I am his wife. So what? Does it pinch you? Is our peaceful marriage bothering you, Sir Adrian Bayford.” I ridiculed, not believing how absurd he is at the moment.

He knows how we got married and now we are trying to work this out, he is having trouble finding me in the arms of my husband, now it’s pinching this hypocritical man.

“Etch this in your mind, Adrian.” With a clenched jaw, I took a step closer, staring dead into his woeful eyes but I didn’t care about his grief anymore. He was acting like a lunatic.

“You are a nobody to me, whatever I do with my life is my choice. It’s my life, you have no right to speak a single fucking word in it.” Continuing, I scowled, glaring at him to stop this nonsense before it slips out of hand.

“So keep your damn mouth shut and don’t you dare to act as an obstacle in my marriage again.” Warning, all I could feel was a fire in my mind.

His eyes narrowed in dejection, parting his lips to speak and for the first time, His sorrow was not affecting me in the slightest. He did none but to outrage me.

Scoffing, I was about to walk away furiously but he grabbed my wrist which stopped my heartbeats for a bare second, sending a shiver down my spine.

But, upholding my facade, I turned when he whispered desperately, “Evelyn… Please.”

Frowning, I was about to yank my wrist away from his firm grip and hopeless words,

“Enough, Adrian.” I hissed, impotent to hear further.

It was inducing strange emotions in my heart but before I could pull away Lawrence’s voice came which shut down my functions, dreading me to no extent.

“Evelyn.”
