Chapter 16: Chapter 16
…I placed the belief of my heartbeats on yours without even knowing who you are. Betting my everything on the breaths which held your name…
Lawrence POV:-
Today Danielle is coming. I and Evelyn have devised a plan to mischief her. She is going to be so furious to know we are pranking her but it's fun.
Even though we shouldn't do it as it will break the poor girl's heart but Adrian, who loves teasing her, how can he miss this chance to fool her greatly-
Even if it includes us as well.
“Ah, it’s going to be amazing.” Adrian grinned.
“Hope she takes it well.” I mumbled, worried about her.
“Don’t worry about her.”
I could feel Danielle would kill him for doing this for her but she will get infuriated first so I need to do something to make it up for her.
"Everyone!"
A cheerful voice echoed in the empty hall, telling everyone that she had arrived. We all came to the hall and saw her. Danielle is my cousin. The sister I always wanted.
She means the world to me, I love her a lot. She is the sister I prayed to have.
She has long brown hair along with hazel eyes. She has recently turned 21. She has just given her exam of masters in English Literature.
“Everyone?” She called, looking around.
Her height is above average, almost the same as Adrian.
We walked down as she clumsily hugged me and shouted in excitement, The real excitement is coming up, dear sis.
"Congratulations, Brother!"
I chuckle at her childishness, rubbing her and welcoming her warmth. Danielle is always like a sweet little sister to me.
I used to take care of her when she was a baby. My only experience with babies.
"Thanks," I said as we pulled away from the hug.
Then she greeted everyone one by one. In the end, Evelyn walked down as she welcomed her too.
"Hey Evelyn." She waved at her.
"Oh, hey."
Danielle contemplated her form which is now enhanced a million times.
I don't know if it's just me or everyone noticed it too but Evelyn now has a gentle and graceful aura around her which attracts me to her.
"Evelyn..." Danielle trailed off.
"Hmm?" Evelyn hummed.
"Did you do something like a makeover or something?" She tentatively asked.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean... you're looking so graceful." Danielle complimented, making her chuckle.
"What are you saying, Danielle? She is always elegant." I said with a smirk.
"Yeah... but not like this."
"Leave her Brother, she is new here. Coming here for the first time, hmm?" Adrian mocked from behind.
"Hey! Shut up, Battery." She shouted at him.
"It's you Flex, Tape."
Me and Evelyn gave them weird looks by the usual weird nickname. They don’t think, call each other by stupid nicknames.
I don’t even remember the last time he called her Danielle.
We all sat in the living room. It was full of the sound of ceaseless talks.
Danielle keeps asking to see my wife.
"Where is she, Brother? I have met everyone but not your wife." Danielle pouted, making Evelyn smirk from behind.
Finally, I spoke up, gaining everyone's attention- especially Danielle.
"Come on, tell me, Brother. Where-"
"Evelyn, Have you seen the dress I bought for the reception for you?" I asked, turning to her.
"For Evelyn? Why? You have to buy the dress for the bride- Wait a minute."
Danielle stopped and remained still and awestruck. She tried to say something but her lips can't ever pursue a single sound, trying to comprehend the situation.
“Huh?”
Making an innocent face ,trying to encrypt my words.
I laughed at her reaction and walked towards Evelyn. She stood up as I wrapped my arm around her waist and pulled her close.
“Is it fine if I hold you just to pretend?” I asked in a low tone so no one could hear us.
Even though it's all a prank but the feeling of warmth by pulling her close to me is carved deeply into my soul and the feeling of adoration radiating from both of us I can feel it- It's divine.
“Yeah, yeah.” She smiled.
The caprice to receive more of it aroused in me but I held it inside as my heart was beating abnormally.
"Danielle, Meet my wife, Evelyn Lawrence Bayford,"
I introduced Evelyn, making her blush, lowering her gaze which mesmerized me in the allure to stare at her all day.
I felt proud when I spoke her full name.
"Really?! You are not kidding? I mean you guys always looked like a couple but I never knew you liked her... I thought she-"
Danielle spoke rather to herself and stopped mid-sentence.
“She would be your bride but her name was something else, right? Or my brain ceased to function?”
Evelyn gave her a slight distress gaze but shrugged it off. She shook her head, trying to make the situation worse. She looked at us then at the floor and repeated it like a loop.
“But, I never thought you’d truly be a couple. I mean, Evelyn don’t you- No.”
And looking at her blabbering was so amusing. Adrian was also watching this enjoyable occasion with a smirk where she was lost in unfathomable thoughts.
"Oh, we did? I think we have failed to hide our relationship, Lawrence." Evelyn said in a surprised tone.
Holding my laughter and listening to the melodious voice of my wife and wishing what she had said was true I replied.
"You are right. But now we are together and nothing can separate us." She smiled sheepishly and looked away.
"Wait. Brother you're supposed to marry a girl named Emerald. What's that? Can anyone tell me what's happening? Dumb Brain? Evelyn? Brother?" Danielle asked dumb-found.
"Oh, you know, We have always liked each other. So at the wedding, I refused to marry her and confess my undying love for Evelyn in front of everyone and we got married."
I told her the fake story.
"That was so romantic. I thought I have lost you but you.." Evelyn said in a sweet tone and hid her face in my chest. I swear that girl will kill me with her looks.
My heart is fluttering with happiness just by having her this close to me.
I took this moment to my advantage and pulled her a little close to me but not too close so that she might not feel uncomfortable.
"But, Evelyn you-" She cut her off.
"My heart belongs to Lawrence, Danielle. No one takes its place." Evelyn said, boring her eyes into mine. Mine too, I thought, held captivated by her sapphire orbs.
Danielle blinked and a silence fell upon the room.
"Stop teasing her! Nothing like this happened." Mother came, laughing at Danielle's reaction, waving her hand and ruined everything.
“What the hell, Mama!?” Adrian yelled, frowning at her to wreck the moment.
"What?" Danielle said in a childish voice as If the voice which was stuck suddenly came out like a screech.
We all began to laugh as the sound of our spontaneous voice provoked by this lively and amusing incident filled the room.
"Are you guys married or not?" Danielle asked angrily yet staggered.
"Yes we are but not like the way we are telling you," I said between the laughs.
“You guys are the worst!” She yelled and went to mother.
"Aunt, look at them. They are making fun of me." She complained, hiding behind her shoulder, making an almost crying face.
"They are making fun of me." Adrian mimicked her and we laughed more loudly.
"I hate you all!" She yelled and turned to leave.
"Hey, Danielle! Come back! We're sorry." I said as I went after her but before she could walk I stopped her.
I picked her up and threw her over my shoulder.
"Okay, my little princess, I am sorry. But, it was funny." I said, still laughing.
"Put me down! I don't want to talk to you!" She yelled again and punched my back.
"Ow! That hurts," I groaned and said to lighten her mood.
"I hate you! I hate you!" She shouted.
"Okay, okay, I am sorry, Sweetie. I am sorry." I said, grinning at her.
“Of all people, you took part in it. I will never forgive you!” She stopped hitting me and made a furious face, looking away and got down.
But I know how to enliven her mood as I said, "Who wants a ride with her brother? Just us and sweets," I said and her face lit up in happiness instantly.
"I do!"
I laughed, giving her a side hug.
“Why are you puffing? Don’t you want me to marry Evelyn?” I asked happily, turning to her.
“No, That’s not it.. Um.. isn’t she.. ah..” She trailed off. A bit stressed for a second.
“Then what is it, Love? You reacted way too much.” I asked casually. I didn’t expect her to grow this furious as if something unexpected happened.
“We have known each other for years, we get along well. And she is very desirable, not to mention, Who wouldn’t want her?” I shrugged, smiling to myself while thinking about her.
“But..”
“But, what? Is there something else I should know? What do you know but I don’t?” I asked teasingly, smirking at her.
She stared innocently at my face and shook her head in denial, speaking hurriedly, “No. I was just shocked. That’s all.”
“If you say so.” I hummed and we left.
I took her to an ice cream parlor and told her about how I and Evelyn got married.
It took her a prolonged moment to comprehend the situation and grasp what exactly happened as she said.
"She is so sweet and I know you will give her the world." She said sincerely.
I smiled back, "Of course, I will provide her with every happiness I can." She nodded in understanding.
"Umm... Brother..." She opened her mouth to say something.
I hummed, motioning her to continue, "Do you want to work your marriage out with her?" She asked hesitantly.
"What Do you mean?" Of course I do." I shrugged, not getting her words.
She lowered her head, protesting about her next words. "What is it, Danielle?" I asked.
She took a pause and exhaled deeply before passing me a wide smile, "Nothing. I believe you guys will be the star couple." She grinned.
"We will be. I will show you." I grinned back, pinching her cheeks.
We laughed a little, talking and after buying Ice cream for everyone we returned home.
