Chapter 30: Chapter 30
Havanna's POV
"No" I replied, wiping my eyes with the back of my palm.
"Yeah, so take a chill pill and relax.
Wait for your darling husband to come back, so you can continue to read the same book, while you're on the same page" she mocked, and I couldn't even believe that she still had the guts to be making fun of me in this kind of situation.
"If I were you, I would just take my time to watch a long relaxing movie before he comes back," she told me and quickly ended the call without me saying anything.
"First lady, I would advise you to go to your room, you look stressed, "one of the bodyguards told me, I raised my head from my phone, and turned to slowly look at him.
"Okay" I couldn't agree better, I needed to rest my head. All this thinking was beginning to give me a headache.
Lucian's POV
"What is happening? Why are you stopping the car?" I asked my driver, when I noticed he came to a sudden halt without even informing me.
"It's the police, I think they are doing a stop and search," he told me, and I couldn't help but sigh.
"Is that why you stopped the car? Please keep moving. I want to get home as soon as possible" I instructed, and he turned around to look at me.
"I don't think that is a good idea. I am sure that one of your opponents had launched your attack. Right now, the whole country thinks you are dead.
He might have orchestrated this search, just to find out if the news is true or not '' he started the gear, so he could reverse before another car can come up behind us.
"You are right, but we can't keep circling the state like this. I am tired, as if the campaign wasn't enough. I have to deal with this as well?" I grumbled, looking at my watch.
It's already past six, What time would all this be over, before I get home?
This was not how I planned my day.
The campaign was meant to be done by four, I would be home by six, and be able to spend the rest of my evening with Havana.
That was what I planned, and not this dumb hide and seek game.
"I am indeed sorry sir. But, protecting you is my top priority" he assured me, as he took another route.
I sat at the back of the car in dismay, as I opened the fridge and took out an energy drink.
I would be needing a lot more than one energy drink, if I wanted to make it through today. Sometimes, life can be so unfair, even to the wealthy.
I never even knew it was possible to frustrate the rich and powerful, until I gained power and my frustration doubled.
"They are also here as well" he informed me, making another u-turn.
"Stop u-turns. You have taken about four different routes already for the past two hours.
At some point, we are going to be the only car left on the road. Just stop the car, so I can think of a way out" I told him, as he nodded his head in agreement, taking his hands off the steering wheel of the vehicle.
Lucian's POV
I couldn't believe that I had forgotten about the compartment on the car floor. I pressed the button beneath the seat, and the back seat was lowered immediately.
The driver's seat on the other hand became higher, as the back seat elongated into a bed.
I laid on it, while it slowly slid under the driver's seat.
The upper part of the seat where someone could lay their head could be seen, but the lower part where one is expected to sit became invisible.
It would only be noticeable if the police opened the car door to inspect the inside.
My driver placed a blanket that matched the color of the seat on me, so it would look like the bottom part.
He drove off, and we got to where the police officers were.
They checked the trunk of the car and looked through the window to check the inside. They didn't notice me, and they gave my driver the green light to go.
I was so uncomfortable, but I couldn't just stand up and sit normally, not until we were sure that the coast was clear.
When we had driven a distance away. I managed to stretch my hand, and pressed the button again, so that the chair would return to its normal form, as I sat down comfortably.
Stretching my arms, and cracking my neck I looked out the window, and noticed that our car was the only car that was still driving on the road. The road was so dark and lonely.
I wasn't surprised, as I had seen it coming. We had spent so much time avoiding the police, and it was already past 1 a.m.
I couldn't believe that I had spent so much time on the road, I am sure that Havana must have fallen asleep by now.
Havana's POV
I couldn't get myself to sleep, I couldn't even complete the silly movie I was watching in the first place.
The movie began to irritate me at some point. I couldn't tell if it was because I was worked up or it was because the movie itself wasn't interesting.
I stood by the window of my room, looking out, and hoping to hear the sirens, hoping to see Lucian's convoy but my wait was in vain.
It was already 1:30 a.m., as I went to sit on my bed. The room was well-aerated but I still felt so hot.
I felt like crashing to the ground already. So many negative thoughts crossed my mind, and pushing them away became difficult.
I heard the door open, as I crawled backward in fear. I don't know why I was scared that the mansion had been attacked.
