Chapter 29: Chapter 29
Havanna's POV
I ran upstairs to carry my bag, and the moment I rushed out of the house, I was blocked by security.
"We are sorry ma'am, but the president has given us the order not to let you leave the house under any circumstances'' one of the men, who looked like a club bouncer informed me.
"I know he did. But, I am sure that you have heard the news, please let me go out" I pleaded with him, as I tried to get past him, but I couldn't.
"I'm sorry first lady, but we have to carry out the president's orders under any circumstances'' he said again, and just at this moment, Nana had walked out of the house.
"Nana, please let me come with you. These people are not letting me leave" I cried out to her.
"Even she cannot leave" The man spoke, and the look on Nana's face was a keeper. I would have laughed out so hard, if not for the circumstances surrounding us.
"And since when did Lucian start giving out such orders?" She questioned him, giving him daggering eyes.
Normally, if she had looked at me like that. Then, I am sure I would have passed out, but her look didn't seem to affect the man, not even in the slightest as he still stood firm, avoiding eye contact with her.
"He just gave us the order for today. He made it clear that if anything were to happen , then we should shut down the entire white house" he said, trying to be as calm as possible.
"Code red" he suddenly tapped the device that was attached to his ear. I mean his airpod.
I never even knew that the white house had sirens as they began to make noises. It was as if an emergency alarm had been switched on, as the security personnel brought out their weapons, and seemed to have doubled in their numbers.
"First lady and Miss Nana. I would please request that you go inside" the man spoke calmly to us.
I didn't know what was going on, but I was panicking. Nana seemed to have gotten used to this kind of thing, as she went inside straight away with two escorts accompanying her.
I followed suit as the four men who were following me initially, suddenly changed positions with others as a new set began to monitor me.
It was just odd. The way they had their eyes glued on me, it was as if they were not allowed to take their eyes off me, not even for a second. I didn't even see them blink once. All this only made me more nervous than I initially was. I swallowed hard and turned to face Nana who was already lost in her own world.
Havana's POV
"Nana! Nana!" I called out to her, and she shook a bit before she turned to look at me. That was the first time I had seen Nana this worried, she is normally calm and composed, even when there is a crisis.
"Nana, what's happening? What's code red? And why is the security so tight?" I kept on asking her so many questions.
I was trying to calm myself down before, but after seeing the look on Nana's face, I knew this wasn't just an ordinary matter.
"It's nothing to get yourself worked up about. It happens from time to time, especially during the campaign period.
You can go to your room, and watch a movie or something just to keep yourself occupied." She suggested waving her hands in the air, as she stood up to leave.
It was obvious she didn't want to talk about it, she didn't even seem interested in having any conversation with me.
My phone rang, and I hastily brought it out of my bag, which I was still holding. I seriously hoped that Lucian was the one calling, but it was Stephanie.
"Stephanie" I called out to her almost in tears.
"Yes, Havana I heard the news. I am sure you must be overjoyed by now. Tell me what brand of wine are you using to celebrate right now?" She asked.
"Are you being serious right now Stephanie? My husband was just attacked, and could be dead and you are asking me if I am celebrating?
What is there to be happy about? Aren't I too young to be a widow?" I questioned her, feeling disgusted by her response.
"You are also too young to be a divorcee in the next two years or so.
Common, this is the same man who is making life unbearable for you" She tried to convince me that celebrating what had happened to Lucian was right.
"Not to the extent that I wish death upon him. And besides, Lucian and I had already reconciled our differences, we are on the same page now" I told her, with a little confidence.
My marriage wasn't a total failure. It just needed to be worked on a little more.
"I didn't even know you guys were reading the same book" she joked, and I didn't find it funny.
"Stephanie, be serious for once. I am in the middle of a crisis here" I tried my best to hold back the tears that were threatening to escape from my eyes.
I didn't know why the thoughts of something happening to Lucian scared the hell out of me.
"Jeez Havana, you don't have to be emotional about the slightest things. We are not talking about just anybody. He is your husband I know, but he is also the president.
Do you think that his security would let anything happen to him?" She questioned, and I shook my head as a response.
"You know I can't see you shaking your head right? So just answer me vocally" she said, and I rolled my eyes.
She knew me so well, to the point that she knew exactly how I would react to everything. I just hope that won't be a disadvantage to me in the future.
