An hour past noon, we were told that the new boss have arrived. Maxwell came to me, and also told me what I have heard already. I grabbed my stuff and about to head to the board room to wait for him.
We are all supposed to already be in the board room before he walks in.
"Are you going to keep ignoring me? Maxwell asked, as he was trying really hard to keep up with me.
and why are you walking so fast? He asked again, and that was when I paused to answer him.
"First, You said, I was dragging myself, that I don't have to tell the world I am pregnant, and now, you are asking me, why I am walking fast? I asked him, when he didn't have answers for me, I shook my head disgustedly at him.
It was obvious that I am angry with him, for ignoring me for so long, and also, speaking to me, in an annoying way.
"Fine, if you are not going to speak to me, you can keep ignoring me, but I wanted to speak to you about the new boss, so you prepare your mind before you see him". He says and I would have waited to hear what he has to say about the new boss, but what could be worse. He had said so much about Jade before I even met him, but I noticed that he was different from everything that was said about him, so I want to understand the new boss myself.
Jade had gone to walk him in, with some of the board heads, while I waited with other staffs in the board room. I was not sure, how I was feeling at the time, but it wasn't good at all, when I saw others getting up to give the new boss a stand ovation, I looked slowly at who the new boss is, and to my shock, he is someone I wouldn't want to see.
I opened my mouth, but no words came out. Jade had said he would love to talk to me about something, only after I meet with the boss. Maxwell, had also said he wanted to tell me about the new boss, so that I could prepare my mind, but now that I am looking at him, I don't know if my mind, is prepared to meet him.
I wish I could hide my face, or just walk away. If he is going to be the new CEO, then I am going to have to resign this same day, but if I do, how am I going to survive? I am going to look for a way, I was willing to see the end of it all.
"Like I told you all, you will meet with your new boss this afternoon, and here he is. doctor Edward Stones". The staff started clapping, while I buried my face downwards. My world has officially come to an end, he is going to be our new boss, he is going to make my life, a living hell. He had a bright smile, across his face, and his eyes, fixated on me, even though I am not looking up at him, I know he is looking at me.
I felt someone Sqweeze my hands, trying to stop it from shaking, and that was when I noticed that Maxwell, was standing close to me. I looked up at him, and he encouraged me with his eyes. That was what he wanted to tell me, he must have figured out somehow, that our new boss is my ex husband, and knowing how I feel about him, he has come to encourage me.
"Thank you all, for the warm welcome, I am really happy. I will like to get to know you all by name. I am a very busy person, I won't always be here, but since this is now mine, I will always find time to visit this place, every now and then, so as to be sure, you are all working well. I also have a family here, so I will have more reasons, to come around". He says, smiling sinisterly at me. After the introduction, he asked everyone to leave, but he commanded, that I wait behind. Soon the room was empty, I was alone with him, I wasn't scared, I just stared at him sternly, I plan to give him a piece of my mind, the worst that could happen, is that he fires me, and presently, I don't care.
I never believed that tables do turn, but seeing you here, all humble and scared, I now believe, that tables, really do turn". He says, coming close to me, sending my hair backwards, so as to get a clear view of my face.
"Edward, buying the company, will not make any difference, after I get my pay for this month, I will leave, you can keep the company to yourself". I told him, hoping to remove the smile from his face, but he only laughed out loud.
"That would have done the trick of getting me angry, actually, but you see my dear, that will only make me the right person, that will be able to take care of Whitney. She will now belong to me, she will come back to me, and she will live in my house, and then, if she is a good girl, she would be treated well, but if she misbehaves the way she did before, I will make her cry". My heart skipped for a moment. He saw that I was scared, that was his intention.
"I will get another job, I will take care of my daughter, just the same way I have been taking care of her".
"Yes you will, but which company, do you think will accept you, and the bastard you have inside of you". He says, shocking me, that he knows that I am pregnant, I looked around, fear, that someone might be listening to us.
I know you haven't told anyone, but I am your new boss now, I am the only one that needs to know, and I have known, for long. I should fire you this instant, but I am not that bad. If I do, how will you take care of yourself and my daughter, so I am offering you a new chance, keep working here, as the manager, I will pay you double your salary, just take it as my contribution, for the upkeep, of our daughter. She can stay with you, I don't want to be pushed to hurting her, and I know soon enough, you will realize, that you are the one that hurt me, and you are still hurting me". He says and I looked away. I was in no mood to argue with him, when I looked back at him I asked.
"Can I go now? He nodded, and I walked away. In his eyes, he looked very satisfied, he was getting back at me. I am suffering again, because of what Craig did to me, and I don't think it will ever stop, because he is in my heart, always there, while his seed grows inside of me.
