Chapter 38: Chapter 38
"Where are we going?" Celeste asked Liam for the third time. But like the previous two times he still didn’t answer her.
"You will get to know soon." He simply said while focusing on driving the car. Celeste let out a sigh while turning her head towards the car window. She slowly leaned on it while looking outside towards the passing scenery.
That morning Liam came knocking to her door and informed her to get ready with her things as they will be returning home. Celeste nodded as she thought they would be returning to Ontario but she was proved wrong when Liam started to drive the car. He didn’t take them towards the airport instead he started to drive towards some other direction which Celeste had yet to recognise.
To be honest Celeste didn’t want to stay in Toronto anymore. She just wanted to go back to Ontario, stay away from Rodriguez. The old memories already started to give her pain. She didn’t want to break down again. She knew she wasn’t lucky and God would never be on her side. So she had to do everything to protect her mind and her heart which still beat for Liam. Celeste was so engrossed in her own thoughts that she failed to recognise the familiar route to the penthouse which she once shared with Liam.
All of sudden the car came to a halt and stopped right away making Celeste come back from her day dream.
"We are here." Liam said while unbuckling his seat belt. Celeste nodded and unbuckled her seat belt too before both of them got out of the car. As Celeste looked around, she felt her heart slowly stop beating. This place!
It was the penthouse. He brought her to his penthouse which was once her home. Celeste looked at the tall building with her eyes wide. She felt her hands start to get sweaty while her mind took her back to two years back when she first came here with Liam after their marriage.
"This! Liam! I-I don't think it's a good idea for me to stay in the penthouse." Celeste said in a nervous voice as she looked at Liam. Liam, who was handling their luggage to the helper frowned.
"Why? What happened? " Liam asked in a concerned voice. Celeste bit her lips and looked away. She didn’t want to say anything more. She didn’t want to go there.
That was the place from where everything had begun. She lost everything starting from that place. She didn’t want to go there anymore as she knew it would give her nothing but pain.
"Don't worry. Everything will be alright. It's just about a few days and I remember you said you loved this place very much." Liam said while holding her hands with his. Celeste looked at their joined hands and then at his back.
"But-" She didn’t get to finish her sentence as Liam pulled her with him making her follow him despite the protest coming straight both from her heart and mind.
It was true she loved this place. It was once her home. She loved this place because he was with her. She loved this place because of his existence with her. She would have loved any place if he was with her but that time everything had changed. She hated this place. It was the place from where she started to lose everything. It was the place where he left her. It was the place from where the fateful day of her pain began.
Celeste tried to brush off her thoughts while controlling her tears by preventing them from falling. She didn’t even notice when they reached the floor of the penthouse. She wanted to run away but she couldn’t.
She watched as Liam let go of her hand and took out the keys before opening the front door with them and tying the password. The same password which she had put in.
01292018
The date of their wedding. He hadn’t changed it yet. Celeste didn’t understand why this new discovery gave her goosebumps. She looked at Liam who was busy opening the door.
"Let's go!" He said while holding the door open for Celeste. Celeste unconsciously nodded and slowly made her way inside the penthouse. She felt her heartbeat quicken by every step she took in. She slowly entered the house while looking around.
Everything was the same. Nothing had changed. She looked at the kitchen, the balcony, the staircase. She could hear herself coming down from the staircase, cooking in the kitchen with Tracy, laughing. She could see herself eating with Liam while talking nonstop. She felt her eyes getting wet. This time she didn’t hold them back. She let them fall freely. She slowly walked around the house. Then her eyes landed on the TV. She could see herself watching TV when she was bored, cuddling Liam while sitting on his lap, doing her office work on laptop while sitting on the sofa. She smiled remembering those memories.
Nothing had changed. The painting was the same. Only the plants were missing. She could understand why. There was no one to take care of them. Celeste shook her head as she roamed her eyes around the penthouse. Suddenly her eyes got stuck on the empty space in the living room.
It was the same place.
The very same place where it all took place. She could feel her head spinning as flashbacks of that fateful started to surrender her.
She put her hands on her head while praying to God to stop it. But as usual God didn’t listen to her. She shook her head as her heart started to feel suffocated. She wanted to run away. She felt herself going back to the same place she had started her journey. She knew she was again getting panic attacks but she couldn’t do anything to stop it as her breathing became quick and she felt her whole world spinning.
Liam, who was attending a call behind Celeste, turned around. He noticed the change in her behaviour and quickly made his way towards her.
"Are you alright? Is anything wro- Celeste!!" He couldn't even finish his sentence as he shouted her name in shock while running towards her before she fell on the floor. He held her in his arms at the right moment and saved her from falling down.
"Celeste? Celeste? Baby what happened? Open your eyes!" He shouted while patting on her cheek before quickly picking her up in his arms. He quickly made his way out of the house and made his way downstairs. Liam then quickly put Celeste in his car. He also got into the driver seat quickly before driving towards the nearest hospital while praying to God to keep her Celeste safe. He would die if anything bad happened to his Celeste.
