Rex's Pov

“Enough,” The Alpha raised his hand and bellowed coldly. Immediately, the group of elders kept their mouths shut. “It's not as if those boys were innocent either. Thole truants have been bullying him for a while now.” The Alpha enunciated his words clearly in support of me.

My eyes lowered in disbelief. It's famously known that the Red Flame Pack Alpha always pampered his daughter to the core, but I didn't expect that Filippa was pampered to the extent that she could influence important decisions of the pack.

“You can hear Filippa's words. She's right; Rex hasn't caused any harm to the werewolf pack. He'll be her bodyguard from now on.” The Alpha pronounced in a calm and collected tone, shocking everyone.

The elders, including I, drew a cold breath due to the Alpha's unexpected judgment. Did the Alpha forget that I was a vampire? How could he be so fearless as to make a vampire guard his daughter? Was he so assured that I wouldn't hurt Filippa? Or did his pronouncement stem from his confidence?

The second elder parted his lips hesitantly and said, “Alpha…”

“Enough!” The Alpha banged on the table and growled coldly.

“My daughter's life is on the line; what more do you want to say? The topic had been closed. Disperse!” He coldly ordered, his eyes glinting furiously, and his whole body exuding pressure.

Immediately, everyone except Filippa and Luna shivered in fear and stood up.

The elders grunted in unwillingness; nevertheless, they bowed to the alpha and Luna before shooting me a fierce glare.

"Hmph!" The elders harrumphed coldly and stormed out of the conference room while shooting me cold glares.

My eyes couldn't help but linger on them as they walked out of the office, because I knew they were subtly expressing that the topic hadn't closed at all!

My brows furrowed in a frown. Does that mean there'll be...

“Rex, appreciate Dad.” Filippa's sudden reminder invaded my ears softly. She clasped her hand around the Alpha's neck and turned to stare at me with an encouraging smile on her face.

I snapped out of my daze, finding what had just happened incredible and thrilling. I have been spared from execution just like that? Everything seems so hilarious!

I nodded and sighed in relief. Everything ended quicker than I thought, and it was thanks to Filippa and her family.

Quickly, I bowed to the Alpha and Luna to express my appreciation, “Thank…” Before I could complete my words, domineering and authoritative pressure overwhelmed me, making me unable to breathe.

My legs froze, and all the power that I thought I had seemed to disperse from my body in that minute. I didn't expect that Filippa's dad was so powerful. I couldn't even lift a finger under his pressure.

“If you hurt even an inch of her hair, I'll exterminate you and the force behind you!” The Alpha declared in a chilling tone, his eyes flickering with a ruthless glint that scared me to the core.

At that minute, I realized that the Alpha didn't trust me—not at all—and who he trusted was his daughter. Even if I were a spy, just the fact that Filippa spoke to me was enough to make him take a step back.

Filippa threw her thumbs up and giggled happily. “Dad. Daddy is so adorable right now. I love Daddy the most.” Filippa praised her dad with glinting, purplish eyes. She leaned forward and planted kisses on her dad's cheeks repeatedly.

My lips twitched in disbelief. The Alpha was just threatening me now. How the hell did he look adorable? The alpha looks condescending, like a devil from hell!

The Alpha's ruthless image disappeared immediately, and he guffawed with joy. He pulled Filippa's cheeks endearingly before throwing her up into the air.

Luna came in between the two and blinked her beautiful eyes. “Mom is jealous.” She expressed and feigned sniveling to Filippa.

Filippa giggled, leaned forward, and placed a kiss on Luna's cheeks. “Mom, a kiss. Muah. Muah. I love Mom and Dad the most.” She said childishly and placed an endless kiss on the two's cheeks.

My hand was clenched by my side. Two parents, two worlds. Was my existence all made just to create a spy for the vampires? If that was it, then those people are utterly despicable!

Suddenly, Filippa got down from her dad's lap and stood straight. She waved her hands in the air innocently. “Dad. Mom. I'm leaving. Work hard, okay?” She blinked cutely and giggled innocently.

“Yes. Yes. Bye, baby.” The Alpha and Luna waved at Filippa before giving me a strict look, which was meant as an indirect warning.

My heart trembled. For a girl like Filippa, I'd rather harm myself than let anything happen to her beautiful smile.

Filippa began to walk toward me, and before I could process it, she reached out and grabbed my hand.

My heart leaped to my throat immediately, in disbelief. Filippa is a princess; how could she hold my hand? My face whipped to the side to look at her enchanting face, still struck in disbelief.

Although I've always planned to protect Filippa forever in appreciation for her actions, at this moment, I want her to hold me like this forever. To be only mine.

My eyes continued to stay locked on Filippa's face until she suddenly stopped.

At that moment, I realized that I could stare at her beautiful face forever. Her purple eyes were limpid, bright, and clear. Her black hair was shining, and her face was so smooth, as if touching it could make it drip water. She's so other-worldly.

“Ah, Rex. Looking at my face all along, for what? My face grew beautiful flowers?” Filippa said in a cute, arrogant manner and turned to look at me with her shiny purple eyes. Her reminder made me snap out of looking at her enchanting face.

I quickly looked away to hide the embarrassment I felt. However, I soon discovered that we were in the forest alone. Isn't she afraid that I might do something to her?

I stared at Filippa with furrowed brows. “Why did you save me?” I inquired. Was this a plot? Were all their acts meant to lower my guard? Was this the real thing? To lead me into the forest and end me in one move?

Filippa tilted her neck and wrinkled her nose playfully. She sat at the foot of the tree and looked up to stare at me with her dazzling eyes. “Why? Because I think you're a strong person. I'm a weak omega, so you have to protect me.” She explained amidst giggles.

The sincerity in Filippa's eyes almost made me melt into a puddle. In that second, I realized that I was really naive. The Alpha and Luna were extremely strong. They could extinguish someone like me without lifting a finger; why would they put their daughter's life on the line for me? Isn't that absurd? My breath came out in excited waves. Perhaps Filippa really made them let me go?

I almost couldn't keep my smile in due to Filippa's words. Although Filippa is an omega, calling her weak is a big joke. As far as I know, Filippa beating up Alphas and Betas older than her during sparring is a common thing. So Filippa calling herself weak sounds funny. Perhaps she could beat me up!

I howled and repeatedly punched the tree right in front of me, snapping out of the beautiful memories. Today I realized that the more beautiful the memories were, the more they hurt. My heart ached a lot. It felt as if I was suffocating, and this feeling seemed to want to drive me mad.

'She's my mate!' Wyatt's proud voice lingered in my head. The image of Filippa and Wyatt holding hands replayed in my head, stabbing my heart repeatedly.

I clutched my chest with my bloody and trembling hands, and two trickles of tears spilled past my eyes. My whole body trembled. Today was the first time I realized how powerless I was.

Wyatt had always been decisive and planned well all through. I knew Wyatt never needed a trick to have Filippa. Just the fact that he saved Filippa made him have a point over me—over us. Had Wyatt told Filippa that he was her mate as soon as Filippa woke up, perhaps they'd have both been together for a long time. Just the thought that he had always been above us in his plans made my heart ache more.

“I guess I don't have to protect you anymore. I guess you have him to protect you from now on. He's your love—the one you want. Moreover, he's domineering and a good planner. You won't fall far.”
