Chapter 50: Chapter 50
“Fil. You have always belonged to me."
Of course, I remembered the promise I made to Rex during childhood. However, I just gave Rex a casual acknowledgement to make Rex calm down.
I didn't think much of the promise since we'll all find our mate at the end of the day, and we'll go our separate ways. I've always thought that was Rex's thought as well. “That's just a child's promise, Rex.” I conveyed in a soft voice the hope of convincing him.
“I didn't take it that way. I've always held your words close to my heart.” Rex bemoaned, drew me closer, and wrapped his hand around my waist.
Despite all my struggles, Rex wasn't bulging, and that made me huff. Rex chuckled and tousled my hair playfully. I chortled and slapped his hand playfully.
“I've always wanted you, ever since that day. I lost you once; I won't do so again.” Rex declared firmly.
Suddenly, Rex's red eyes darkened, and his breath began to come out in a hurry—a sign that he was about to be triggered.
Filled with panic, I wrapped my hand around Rex's neck, knowing it'd be bad for him to be triggered.
Although I knew I'd be able to control Rex after he was triggered, what would I do if the higher-ups of the power axis pack were already alerted by Rex's presence before I did? It'll be bad for both of us. “Rex, calm down, please.” I pleaded in a gentle tone, hoping that would make him calm down.
Behold, Rex responded by clutching my waist tightly and drawing me closer, as if he wanted to embed me into his body. His head lowered to my neck as if he were sniffing my scent.
“Rex, you're hurting me.” I hissed out in pain when his fingers elongated and began to dig into my skin.
Immediately Rex heard me cry; his fingers retracted, and his hands fell limply to his sides, but he still didn't break the contact.
Rex placed his head on my shoulder and mumbled in a quivering voice, “Do you know how afraid and depressed I was when I was told that you didn't want to see me again? I felt so tired of life…”
I clenched my fist hard. Rex became my bodyguard, savior, and best friend after that incident, and for him to be separated from me, I knew Henry must have spurned out a bad lie to him.
“Whatever Henry says to you isn't the truth. I was also tricked by Henry then. Actually, many things have happened over the years. Trust me, I know how to take care of myself now.” I explained sincerely.
I felt Rex's mood calm down a bit. Rex separated from me and held out my hand with decisiveness. “I'm never letting you go again.” He enunciated firmly.
I bit my lower lips and sighed. Rex isn't in the right mood to discuss closeness and separation, so I decided to push the conversation to later. “I understand,” I replied while feigning an understanding smile, hoping that he wouldn't notice my lie.
Rex's eyes switched back to normal, making me sigh in relief. I switched the topic and decided to question him about what had been bugging me.
“Rex, you became the vampire lord, how?” To my knowledge, Rex was the son of a werewolf woman who died a few years after bringing Rex to the Red Moon Pack. Moreover, the identity of his father was unknown, so it surprised me that he could be the vampire lord.
Rex made a long face, and his expression turned grave. “I was told by Henry that the reason you accepted a worthless vampire close to you was to watch over me. And in actuality, you detested an ugly vampire like me.” Rex blurted out coldly.
My heart broke at Rex's explanation, and my hatred for that bastard Henry increased.
How dare he make such a lie? How could I hate Rex when he's my best friend?
But in actuality, no lie could have sent Rex away except for such a lie; Henry had chosen the lie that could affect Rex the most.
After hearing Henry's lies, there's no way Rex won't hate me and let go of me. No wonder Rex and the people close to me didn't stick around. Henry was behind it all! That bastard.
I tried to grab Rex's hand, but he shook his head coldly and took a step back, putting distance between us.
“I had to leave after two weeks of being unable to see you, coupled with taunting from the pack members. Immediately, I left for the vampire clan, intending to grow stronger and make you pay for playing with my feelings.” He revealed truthfully.
My eyes widened in shock, and I unconsciously took a step back. He didn't just say that he wanted to make me pay, did he?
Before I could reply to him, Rex's eyes darkened as if he had just thought of something.
Unexpectedly, Rex strode toward me and bit my neck harshly, making it bleed, before licking it and separating from me.
“Ouch.” I yelped due to pain, and my hand flew toward my neck. “Rex,” I whined and glared at him with feigned annoyance.
Rex shrugged and smiled nonchalantly despite my glare; instead, he continued. “Soon after I arrived at the vampire clan, I discovered that I was the first son of the vampire king and his engaged lover, who died after giving birth to me. After birth, I was given to a werewolf spy, so I could become a spy and pawn of the vampire clan later in the future.” Rex revealed, expressionlessly, but there was a faint trace of hurt swirling in his eyes.
I felt uncomfortable, and my heart tightened. I thought I had gone through cruelty, but how wicked was Rex's father to treat Rex like this? How could he? My hands balled into fists.
“He never accepted my presence, no matter how outstanding I was. I felt tired and began to crave real affection, and all I kept thinking about was you. Even though you said you were disgusted by me, I wanted you and your affection, and being without you every second made me crazier. Therefore, my decision changed; I aimed to become stronger because that's the only way I can kidnap you and tie you next to my side successfully.” He declared truthfully, which made my lips twitch in disbelief.
Is it right for Rex to tell me all these things? He wasn't afraid of me escaping after hearing his obsession.
Wait!
Is there even a chance to escape? Rex is the vampire lord, and I'm just an ordinary Omega wolf, so how can I escape from Rex?
“Despite how outstanding I was, my father only took me as a pawn he planned to destroy after using, so I destroyed him earlier before he could do the same.” He finalized and then hugged me, a comforting smile on his lips.
Although Rex had only explained to me in simple words, I knew it must be complicated and harder for him.
For someone like Rex, who wasn't even accepted by his father and lived in the werewolf clan, he must have been made an outcast by the vampires.
How much torture must he have gone through to reach his current level?
I raised my hand, tiptoed, and patted his shoulder twice in a bid to comfort him. “You've gone through a lot.” I expressed softly.
Rex ruffled my hair, a stunned smile on his handsome face. “You. You didn't hate me. I thought you'd hate me after knowing how bloody I'm.” Rex bowed his head nervously.
I shook my head, tiptoed, and patted his head. How can I blame Rex? It must have been either him or them, similar to my situation with Henry. I'm glad that Rex realized earlier, unlike me, who held on to a fake hope until I was 'killed.'
“Rex, I'm no longer that innocent girl who thinks all she needs to do is become a happy princess and continue my parent's legacy…”
Rex raised his hand and caressed my cheeks. “I know. You've shed that innocence. And for you to be here with a fake identity, I know things must be harder than what was revealed to the world.” Rex coaxed softly, understanding me like usual.
But despite his soft voice, his expression was deadpan, and there was killing intent flickering in his eyes.
And it made me understand something: Alpha Henry is now at Rex's epicenter.
“Don't touch Henry. I'm the only one who knows all he has done to me. And for that reason, I need to make him taste all that he did to me.” I clenched my fist hard, hatred blooming in me.
Rex chuckled and bowed slightly. “Your wish is my command, cute princess.”
I huffed. I must have looked cold and majestic just now; how can he mention cute? I punched Rex's chest playfully and smirked in return. “Stop it, scaredy vampire Lord.”
Rex moved closer to me and lowered his head toward my ear; he susurrated mischievously, “En. Cute Princess Filippa's Hubby.”
