Chapter 49: Chapter 49
“Lorelei?” I stared at the tall female figure who was leaning against the tree I once leaned on the first time I entered the forest to meet Oswald.
Lorelei's eyes were cold and freezing. And I could feel intense hostility from her.
Somehow, right at that minute, an intense hatred toward Lorelei bloomed in me.
Being in the same environment as Lorelei made me feel unreconciled. It felt as if we were opposites and longtime enemies.
Lorelei squinted her eyes at me and moved away from the tree. Her eyes coldly bore into mine. In the dawn, her eyes held some weird glint that felt like an attraction that was calling me toward her. I looked away and broke the contact, opting to stare somewhere else.
“Who are you?” Lorelei's sudden question caught me off guard, and I stared back at her in bewilderment.
“What?” My brows furrowed in bewilderment. What is she talking about? Is Lorelei here for me? Why?
Lorelei made her way toward me and cut the distance between us in half. A disapproving frown on her face. “You're so quick to make everyone like you. I said, who are you?” She demanded harshly.
My brows knitted in confusion. “Did you get the wrong person?” I couldn't help asking because what Lorelei is accusing me of is the opposite of what I'm currently going through.
I'm despised by my classmates so much that none of them have spoken to me except to throw barbs at me. Even my mate would rather watch me kicked out than see me in his pack, so if Lorelei wasn't talking nonsense, what was she doing?
“I don't know what your charm is, but I won't let it work,” Lorelei announced rudely, and that made me annoyed.
“You must be out of your mind.” I retorted coldly.
Lorelei chuckled coldly, and she took a step toward me. “I don't want you here.” She spoke out firmly with a cold smirk.
I smacked my lips together. Opting to ignore Lorelei
In the beginning, I thought it was a coincidence that I met Lorelei here, but now I can see that she currently has a screw loose.
I took a step, deciding to enter deep into the forest in another direction. After all, it doesn't matter whether I go through the normal route or not; what I want to do is find a rogue. Moreover, rogues won't stay in a part of the forest; of course, they'll be scattered randomly.
“So what if you're mated to him? Do you think you can get him?” Lorelei suddenly said with a cold chuckle and vivid hatred.
I froze and unconsciously stopped in my tracks. Lorelei knew I was mated to Oswald? How?
Obviously, only Oswald, Asher, Wyatt, and I knew, so how did Lorelei know? Even Arya doesn't seem to know, so how come? Who else knows?
“You know.” My mind began to run chaotically. Was that the reason Lorelei had been staring at me with a weird expression on her face? Although my mind kept racing, I was calm.
After all, there's nothing to worry about. Oswald and I are mates, but it's obvious that we aren't fated to be.
I scoffed and purposely ridiculed. Lorelei had been ridiculing me all along. Does she think I'm such a pushover who will let her ridicule go? “Do you think I'm interested in him? I'm not that low to be fighting over a man…”
“You bitch!” Lorelei seethed in anger and raised her hand toward my cheeks, but before her hand could descend on my cheeks…
I grabbed her by the wrist, stopping her actions. My countenance is cold and freezing to the brim. “You've stepped the line, Lorelei. The time you can touch or hit me is back on that field; right now, I won't hesitate to tear your facade.” I roared at her angrily, only for Lorelei to chuckle as if she had just heard something hilarious. I wrinkled my brows. What's funny
“Even Oswald isn't confident enough to take me, who do you think you are?” Lorelei taunted me with mocking laughter. I parted my lips to say something, but before I could, she continued. “With that measly strength you displayed in the room?” she mocked with an amused laugh.
“What?” My lips parted in shock. I thought it was enough that Lorelei knew about Oswald and my relationship, but she also knew about what happened in the room.
How did she know about my power display? Was she behind it? Behind what exactly? My mind began to race chaotically. It felt as if I knew something, yet I didn't.
“I'm telling you, Oswald is mine, and losers like you can only back off if you don't want to die. You won't want a third warning.” Lorelei declared harshly, and before I could blink or say a word, she was gone.
I massaged my brows as my headache kicked in. I escaped from the red flame pack just to endure another what? Am I making the right decision? Why does everything seem to be on my neck?
A familiar presence suddenly wrapped around me, and before I could blink, Rex appeared in front of me. I tilted my neck in surprise and eyed Rex curiously. “Rex? Why are you here?”
Without saying a word, Rex strode toward me and enclosed me in a tight hug. I could feel the tautness of his body, and I could smell his fear, which made me worried. What's wrong with him?
Rex separated from me and caressed my cheeks worriedly. “Fil… Maia, are you in danger?” He inquired, concern written on his face.
I pursed my lips. Was I in danger earlier? Although Lorelei seems weird and threatened me before she left, this is a battle I can only fight for myself, not Rex.
Besides, according to Lorelei's words, it seems there are many mysteries about Lorelei. I shook my head and faked a smile, not wanting to bother Rex. “No.”
Rex heaved a silent sigh of relief and finally parted from me. He frowned and took a glance at the direction Lorelei had just gone. “Who's that person that just left?” Rex demanded in a thick and protective voice.
“Luna Lorelei. Alpha Oswald's partner.” I replied honestly.
Rex stopped looking in that direction. His red eyes stared into mine intently, as if he were searching for any lies. After a few minutes of locking his gaze with mine, Rex sighed and ruffled his hair with his right hand. “Are you sure?” he repeated strictly.
Although I didn't know what Rex discovered for him to be acting that way, I still nodded to him honestly. “Yes, but why are you here, Rex?”
Rex shook his head and looked in the direction Lorelei had just gone. His eyes narrowed before he turned toward me. “I learned that you're placed in a condition. Are you for real, Maia? You know that you don't need to…”
I shake my head and shut Rex's lips with my index finger. “He's just messing with me in the meantime.”
Rex clenched his fist hard, and his expression turned cold. “Is Oswald your mate?” he questioned in a chilling tone that gave no room for lying.
Subconsciously, I took a step back due to fear. Rex being like this is terrifying, and it reminded me of the image of the lonely boy who just underwent his first transformation as a vampire. However, I knew there was no use lying. For Rex to ask me, means he must have made some investigation. “Yes.”
Immediately, Rex's expression turned harsh, and he grabbed a hold of my hand tightly. “Fil. You have always belonged to me."
