Chapter 48: Chapter 48
Arya shook her head seriously. "If Big Brother Wyatt didn't give you an explanation, then I'm the last person who can." She explained, looking sincere.
Of course, what was I thinking? Perhaps, since Arya was sent to watch over me, why would she snitch on the Alpha? Of course, there'll be a limit to what she can tell me.
I plopped on the table and tousled my hair angrily, not quite understanding why they were still hiding things from me.
Don't I need to become stronger if I'm to be used as a 'weapon'? Is it because I'm yet to become one of them? "Ugh. I don't like you anymore."
Before I could complete my words, Arya grabbed my hand tightly in flusters and stared at me with panic on her face. "You can't." Arya cried out and tightened her hold, which almost made me wince. I was slightly shocked by her actions.
My comment was casually made; I didn't expect Arya to react this strongly. Perhaps my shock was vivid because Arya suddenly smiled—a comforting one.
Suddenly, Arya placed her head on my shoulder, smiling. "Maia, I feel like you've changed to me, and we've become closer today. I'm happy. You're my first friend, so you'd better not break my heart." Even though Arya's voice was soft, I knew she was sincere.
I smirked, unwrapped her hand holding mine, and then shrugged. "As long as you don't betray my trust, I won't. But for being a friend? I don't know. It's a foreign sentence." I replied honestly, even though I knew I may not be up to the task.
I'm paranoid and arrogant; I have trust issues and bad characters; and I'm afraid that I'll flop.
Although Arya said we feel close a lot, I still can't help being on guard. After all, I don't know when the next betrayal will happen.
Arya smiled at me, happiness swirling in her black orbs, which revealed that even though I didn't give her a firm yes, she was still happy with my answer. "It's a good development. You know what? You can go to the library, and I'll go to the cafeteria for the meals. When you fetch the books, I'll give them to you." She said.
I sighed in relief due to Arya's suggestions, which made things a lot easier for me.
"Thanks. Can you direct me to the library?"
With the directions Arya gave me, I was able to find the 2000-meter-wide library.
There were different labeled sections, and each section had rows of bookshelves filled to the brim with neat books. Just the sight of it is overwhelming—in a good way.
There was a unique combination of book smells in a good way, which soothes one deeply. The library, although filled with students, was extremely silent.
At a podium behind a huge table sat a blonde lady with the tag 'Librarian Kaz'. Despite her droopy eyes, which reveal how sleepy she is, Librarian Kaz was chewing bubble gum.
Due to the fact that I'm a newbie who doesn't know how things work, I went to her. "Hi."
Without bothering to look at me, Kaz waved her hand and then rested her face on her palm. "Just check out what you want quietly and don't make a noise." She blurted out a yawn and closed her eyes sleepily.
"Uhm. Please, can I get directions? I need some books, but I don't know my way around here."
Kaz quietly opened her eyes and stared at me with sleepy black eyes. "What books?"
"Pure blood. Golden eyes." I revealed truthfully. My fingers began to tap my lap rhythmically due to the anticipation of getting myself imbued with knowledge that I'd be soon using.
Kaz adjusted the glass on the bridge of her nose and stared at me with sleepy eyes before closing her eyes again and chewing gum.
"Oh, those categories? Alpha had ordered them to be packed away early in the morning. So we have none of that in here." Completing her words, she looked at me intently and yawned again, then closed her eyes. It was as if she hadn't slept in days.
"What?" My eyes widened slightly, and my voice couldn't help going a top-notch louder. Oswald, had it cleared? This damn Alpha! He must have done this on purpose to block me, just like he had done with Wyatt and me.
Oswald knew that I'd be researching these things, and for that reason, he had purposely blocked me beforehand. That damn Oswald!
I took a breath to calm my raging anger. I can't lose my rationality due to anger. Not yet. "So there's no information?"
"No." The girl repeated and eyed me as if to ask me, why am I repeating the same question she already answered? And then she closed her eyes sleepily.
I sighed in distress. If the pure blood is gone, that means I need to focus on another thing—the history between the two packs. Perhaps I'll be able to get some information about the mysteries.
"Books about Kings, Queens, and Princesses of the werewolf clan or mixed blood. Hm. The history between the power…"
"All the history books had been cleared as well." Kaz interrupted. Her forehead had a trace of lines as if she were getting infuriated by my repeated questions.
I smacked my lips together, knowing that I'd still be asking another question. I now have a strong premonition inside. "Inner energy?"
"Gone." This time, she replied without even opening her sleepy eyes.
Shit! My head almost flew off, and I almost bellowed in anger. "Then what's in the library?" Although I wanted to stay calm, I couldn't help yelling out of anger, and that made some people turn to stare at me.
"Simple basic training method. Study about the rogues…"
That asshole. Good for him. He wants me to fail that much? Well, that's the reason I'm going to do anything to win. I swear I won't make him feel the joy of getting me kicked out.
I trudged toward class, shoulders drooping. My expression is looking pathetic as I hold two books—how to attack rogues and training for beginners.
That damnable Oswald! He had purposely packed all the things I might need before I arrived. I need to give him a proper curse once I arrive at the hostel. He's doing everything on purpose.
"You're sure fast for someone who wants to raid the pack library," Arya said while twirling a strand of her hair as soon as I stepped into the getting-crowded classroom.
I plopped down on the chair and dropped my books on the table, still filled with indignation.
"He needs a proper curse. Can you believe he ordered all the books I needed to be packed out of the library? He's purposely restricting me." I ruffled my head and scowled angrily.
I had so much joy going to the library, but Oswald had purposely antagonized me that it made me wish I never went in the first place.
Arya's sympathetic gaze deepened, giving me mixed feelings. "I'll have helped you, but I also don't know much."
She suddenly gave her phone to me, and upon peering at it, I saw that Oswald had given Arya an order.
"Look, he gave me a new order. I can't teach you anything either." She sighed dejectedly as if she were the one who was about to fail, and that made me amused, helping my raging anger calm slightly.
"Forget it. I'd rather eat."
I'm not worried about getting beaten by the rogues like they expected; I only care about getting stronger.
