Chapter 22: Chapter 22

Elizabeth was somehow relieved and thankful that doctor Ken walked in when he did. The doctor needn't not to be told she was having a hard time helping Clinton work his legs as he walked in and had a few minutes glimpse of what they were doing.

He secretly appreciated Elizabeth for agreeing to even stay around Clinton despite his past treatment towards her. He truly considers Clinton a lucky one and hopes he regrets his actions towards Elizabeth although he was beginning to show how remorseful he is for being a jerk.

He already agreed to get her helping hands but he knows it is going to be a difficult one.

While he waited for Elizabeth to pack some necessary things he would be needing, he approached Clinton calmly. He extended a hand towards him, "take my hand let's walk a little," he said.

Clinton looked at him like he was some joker. How can he hold him and walk when he can't even feel his legs. Him holding his hand won't make him be able to stand on his feet as he would still feel his body weight.

"Go on, don't worry. I know what I'm doing," doctor Ken assured.

After a little while, Clinton reluctantly held Doctor Ken's hand and struggled to get up on his feet.

"Ouch! No, I can't do this. I can't feel my legs…" He cried.

"That is the more reason why you should do it more often. You will soon start feeling your legs, just don't stop or relent. It will only hurt for a while…'' The doctor consoled him while he still held him strong pushing him up.

Clinton felt his legs shake and weak for a few seconds but fell back on the bed as he couldn't stand the pain anymore. He was breathing out loud and fast frustrated that he wasn't making any improvement. How is he supposed to gain his feet again if he can't even manage to bear the pain for a minute?

"Good!" The doctor commended him much to Clinton's amazement. Clinton looked up at him wondering why he said good.

"You just showed signs of improvement and it's a huge step," the doctor said, flashing a quick smile at him and turning towards the door to see if Elizabeth was done packing.

Elizabeth walked in a moment later with things she packed. A few clothes for both her and Clinton.

"There are still some left, can you help me come pick them?" she asked facing Cole.

"More left? You don't have to pick more things please. Everything you need will be gotten for you there. Time is not on our side again. Please let's move now."

Elizabeth shrugged and said nothing. Since all they would be needing would be provided for them when they get there, then she shouldn't worry too much.

Clinton was helped into his wheelchair, Cole moved the things Elizabeth packed into the car and they all entered as the car zoomed off. Cole was the one driving. The car was tinted as such no one outside could see what was going on inside but they could see things happening outside.

The drive was a two hour journey. They were happy for the free flow of vehicles and no traffic whatsoever.

On getting to their new apartment, like before, Clinton was helped out of the car into his wheelchair and was wheeled inside. He was calm all through with plenty of things going on in his head. He wished everything would just end and he would return to his life. He didn't like to depend on anyone for anything but now he seems to be pathetic and can't even do anything on his own.

He felt terrible the most when he remembered he was being helped by the same person he hated and almost killed when he thought he had the whole world in his palms.

Thinking about everything now makes him want to reverse the hands of the clock to live right but he knows it is an impossible thing. Instead, he could only hope to make amends for his past sin by becoming a better person now and in the future.

He watched as Elizabeth looked around the house trying to get herself familiar with the house while doctor Ken was on phone call and stepped away from them. The house was clean and ready to be lived in. If people weren't living there, then it probably must have been doctor Ken that ensured it was clean before their arrival.

Cole stayed around him with his face mean as always. Clinton wondered what he would look like if he ever laughed. It might not suit his hardened face since it is already used to being hard and tough but that is actually the least of his problems.

"Here, your parents would like to see you," doctor Ken said, extending the iPad to him. His parents were on the other end ready to see and also talk to him.

Clinton looked at the iPad that Doctor Ken held out to him and suddenly felt angry and the urge to yell at his parents. He held himself but refused to take the iPad from doctor Ken. He would rather walk away than become the person he was fighting to change from. He can't listen to his old self and turn violent even though that is how he felt that moment.

"I don't want to see nor speak to them," he stated flatly and began to wheel himself away from that spot.

"Clinton, try and listen to your parents first," the doctor advised, still holding the iPad out.

"Clinton, my son! Please my son I am so sorry, please forgive us...it's your mother…" Clinton's mother's voice came from the phone. She was crying and Clinton heard it.

For a moment he stopped but continued again after a while.

Elizabeth saw what was happening and thought to go nearer to know but respected herself.

"It's okay Doctor Ken, please I want to speak to the maid that is with him if she is nearby," Clinton's father said after he saw that Clinton wasn't ready to speak with them. They would try again after he must have calmed down.

"How can you say that? Do you not care that our son doesn't want to see nor talk to us? Do you not care ehn?" Clinton's mother cried out loud at her husband.

"Woman, you are being dramatic! Put yourself together!" Mr Smith yelled at his wife.

Doctor Ken just watched on saying nothing. After the squabble between the couple, Mr Smith turned and faced him again.

"Doctor Ken please let me speak to the maid," Mr Smith said after calming down although Mrs Smith still grumbled.

"Ok sir," Doctor Ken replied and started to walk towards Elizabeth to give her the phone.
