Chapter 21: Chapter 21
After taking care of the dishes, Elizabeth went back into the room to help Clinton up for the exercise. She wasn't sure which of the exercises to take him on.
She gently and carefully led him to the work out room that contained almost all the work out tools which was mostly used by Clinton himself when he was still strong.
"What exactly am I supposed to do?" Clinton asked as they entered the room.
"For now, I think you should just relax while you just casually work your legs," Elizabeth replied, helping him to a laid bed that has arms rest.
"Just lay at your back," Elizabeth told him. Clinton at first looked puzzled but he gradually laid on his back and waited for the next instruction.
Elizabeth herself was even confused on what exactly to do. The only thing that came to her mind was to hold Clinton's legs up while he tried to move with it in an imaginary way.
She took Clinton's legs and hung it up on a long wooden stick after which she asked Clinton to try to move.
"Ouch! That is so fucking painful!" Clinton winced in pain.
"Oh! Sorry. Easy, easy. Just take it slowly," Elizabeth suggested massaging his legs. He tried again and still complained that it was hurting him.
Thankfully, the doctor walked in.
"Oh thank goodness doctor Ken, I'm not sure he can keep up," Elizabeth complained to the doctor.
"Please don't always leave the door open. Someone can walk in without you knowing it besides there's bad news," the doctor said with a sad countenance.
"Bad news?" Clinton spoke for the first since the doctor entered. He has now dropped his legs and was sitting upright on the bed.
"Your father's company shareholders are asking for either you or your father. They seem to be suspicious and since both you and your father haven't been there for some time without any prior information to them, they are beginning to be suspicious of something…"
"Those bastards!" Clinton interrupted angrily, folding his palms into a fist like he wants to punch someone's face. Elizabeth imagined if he wasn't in this condition, how violent he would have been that moment.
"What do they want?" he asked with clenched teeth.
"For you to make an appearance or your father," the doctor replied.
"So why don't I make an appearance and why are my parents still not back?"
"You don't understand, do you? You being alive should be hidden as much as possible until you are strong enough to defend yourself. And you have to be moved away from this place now.."
"Moved away? Why?" Elizabeth blurted out confused with what the doctor was saying.
"You are not safe here anymore. I already made arrangements for that through your father. You would have to stay in one of his secret houses until he gets back and sorts everything out. The car is outside. Please get in and pack the important and necessary things…"
"Slow down doctor! Slow down. I don't get it. We are not safe anymore. How?" Elizabeth asked again.
"Please there's no time for this. I will explain everything in detail once we get there. And oh yes, Cole, come in."
A hefty guy walked in. His face was cold and he looked like he didn't smile one bit.
"This is the only willing person I saw that can work with you and keep things confidential. His name is Cole. Cole, you would be working with her, she is Elizabeth and this is Clinton, you are to guard him with your life, do you understand?" the doctor introduced.
"Yes sir," Cole nodded and bowed slightly.
Everything was happening fast and like it was in the movies to Elizabeth. She stood motionless as the doctor rattled on and on picking up very little of what he said.
"Elizabeth, please can you go in now and pack a few important things?"
"No, please I can't do this. I can't possibly go into hiding with you. I have my own life to live, remember? This is now more than I bargained for… I'm sorry...I really can't," Elizabeth said and tried to walk out of the room.
"Elizabeth please wait, you can't do this to him now. You are the only one he can trust now," the doctor said, holding Elizabeth back.
"I understand how everything happening is not what you wanted. None of us saw nor wanted it. Please," the doctors continued to beg.
Clinton felt cold shudder run down him as he listened to the doctor pleaded with Elizabeth to stay back. He felt bad that she would be helping him, leaving her own life to go into hiding with him especially when he remembers he treated her bad when he thought he had it all. How life changes in a spilt of second.
He wished he wouldn't be holding her back, he wished he could just tell the doctor to leave her to go live her life but how can he when his only hope of surviving seems to be with her.
"Doctor Ken, I really don't mean to act like I'm a savior or something but I already made my plans before all these and going into hiding with him means putting my entire life on hold…" Elizabeth said quietly, almost in tears.
"I understand. I truly understand perfectly and I'm working to get things back to normal. Just bear with us for now. I promise it will soon be over."
Elizabeth was mute for a while as she considered what the doctor said to her. She felt bad to be putting her whole plans on hold for someone that hated her for no reason in the past. Would it be bad for her to leave him and retract her hand from helping him.
"I will try but you really need to get me helping hands. I can't possibly take care of him all by myself."
"Oh, that. I'm working on it too."
"Thank you, Elizabeth," Clinton said out loud to the amazement of the doctor and Elizabeth.
The doctor smiled involuntarily and gave Elizabeth a silent look that only both understood.
