Chapter 12: Chapter 12
“You seriously think I will believe that?” Jane yelled banging the table in the conference room where the CEO and other Board members sat. “How do you expect me to believe Stocks have been sold but there is no profit?! Stocks have been one of the leading sources of profit in other companies why is this company an exception?!”
Mr. Robert the CEO sneered at Jane. He knew was a spoilt brat but he didn’t know she would come questioning his authority. He understood that her father owes the company but he wasn’t going to allow her to behave arrogantly to him as long as he is still the CEO of the company.
“Excuse me Miss Jane but are you trying to question my job?” The CEO Mr. Robert asked his voice was calm but pitched with anger.
“Hell yes! That is exactly what I am doing!” Jane shouted banging the table again.
“Ma’am I think you should stay calm,” Marcus whispered in her right ear.
“Shut the fuck up and stay in your lane, Marcus!” Jane was sure this was not the best way to start a Monday morning at a new workplace but she needed answers to why money was missing and why her father’s company was starting to attract negative comments.
“Ma’am I really think you should listen to your bodyguard and calm down.” One of the board members suggested.
“I think you are bald because you do not know how to stop interfering in other people's business.” Jane snapped at the man.
“Okay!” Mr. Robert said standing up. “This meeting has been cancelled! Next time before you call for any kind of meeting make sure you are ready to speak like normal people not yell like an n untamed child.” He said and left the room.
Jane was sitting in her assigned office a few hours after she left the conference room. Monday morning, was her first day in the company and she had made several enemies, including the CEO. She stared at the pile of financial records she and to go through. Every financial record was not balanced. There were huge amounts of money that had disappeared without a trace and when she raised the issue the CEO got upset hence the heated argument.
There was a knock on the door and for a moment she wanted to shout at whoever it was to leave her alone. “Come in.” She said softly adjusting her sitting position.
“I went through the records you gave me; turns out only 60,000,000 Euros of the 200,000,000 Euros Mr. Morrison sent last two months to pay back the missing money of all the customers was used for its purpose. The remaining 140,000,000 Euros are unaccounted for.
“What?! How can amounts that big just disappear?”
“Also, from what I gathered during my research last night, it seems the CEO is starting his own company in Hamburg at the expense of this company.”
“How can a person be so cruel?!”
Emilia stared at Jane weirdly as if to so say ‘maybe you should ask yourself that question.’ But she decided against it. “I will not like to jump to conclusions yet but most of the clients from this company were referred to Fra -"
Emilia was interrupted by the knock on the door.
Emilia open the door and a woman who she recognize to be the company’s financial secretary walked in. “Good morning ma’am." She bow a little in respect as she greeted Jane. "I am Suzan. I graduated from Oxford University. You might not know me but I am sure you’ve heard of my father Mr. Flanz, the famous actor.”
“Okay, what can I do for you?” Jane asked indifferently. She had never been moved by powerful and popular names, especially since her parents' names were always among them.
“I just want you to know I am on your side. The CEO and Accountant and been embezzling money from this company for a long time. I am just glad you are here to stop that.”
“Finally! Someone who appreciates my work.” Jane thought but did not say it out loud. “Thanks,” she replied with a smile. She noticed Suzan’s clothes were designers and she looks like the kind of girl she will like to hang around. “I am glad to know that someone really wants what’s best for this company.”
Suzan chuckled. “How nice of you. I think we should have coffee sometime… that’s if you don’t mind. I know a café that will fit your standard."
“Yeah sure, why not? We could go now. I think I need the distraction.” Jane said standing up.
“Oh,” Suzan sounded a little disappointed.
Jane noticed the change in emotions and asked. “Is everything okay?”
“It is just that I won’t be allowed out of the company until my lunch break at 12:30 pm."
“Well my father owes this company and I say you are coming with me now so… are you coming or not?”
Suzan chuckled. “Whatever you say ma’am” She replied.
Jane noticed Marcus following them to the car and stopped. “Marcus, will you please stop following me? I am going to get coffee with a friend, what could possibly go wrong?”
“I am sorry ma’am but I can’t just leave you alone, it is my job to make sure you are always safe,” Marcus answered firmly.
Jane rolled her eyes and stomped into the car.
Over the next few days, Jane spent more time with Suzan as the girl seem to have information about everyone and everything that happens in the company.

It has been almost 11 days since the incident with Jane happened but Marcus had not gotten over it yet. He knew she was self absorb and arrogant but he didn’t think she would ever raise her hands at him.
As he lay in his room staring at the ceiling, all he could think of was home. He missed his mom and sister so bad he felt homesick. He had been on different missions that require him to leave home in the past but this time feels a little different. He wondered if it was because of the absence of his friend and partner Brian Pacman. His partner would have known how to handle a brat like Jane.
Marcus was still lost in thoughts when he heard movements in the bushes outside his window. He tip-toed to the window and peeped. He saw two men dressed in black squatting underneath Jane’s window whispering. Marcus quickly left his room to go protect Jane. He was just about to open her door when he heard screaming from Emilia’s room. Jane was out of her room immediately grumbling and cursing Emilia for interrupting her sleep. Seeing that Jane was safe Marcus quickly tiptoed to Emilia's room after Jane leave the house to safety and call the police.
“Is she dead? Or do I have to stab her again?” Marcus heard one of the men saying as he placed his ear n the door.
“I think you should stab her again.” The second man replied.
Marcus quickly barged into the room and found Emilia lying lifelessly in a pool of blood on the floor. The men jumped back out the window at the sight of Marcus and began to run. Luckily, the police had already arrived.
Marcus let the Police handle the criminals as he and Jane quickly rushed Emilia to the hospital.
Marcus had never experienced the kindness in Jane’s eyes as she urge her assistant to hold on and fight for her life. He wished he could just pause time and keep replaying the moment.
Jane and Marcus were in the hospital for several hours before the doctor came out to see them.
He told them that Emilia's wound runs deep and it affected some of her internal organs. The doctor said she would live but she needs to be hospitalized for a long time.
On their drive back home, Jane made Marcus promise not to say a word to her father.
“My Dad will pull me out of his mission if he ever hears of this. I need to complete this job before heading back to Austria. I am strongly convinced this incident is related to that company, I just need to prove it.”
Marcus noticed the depth, sorrow and anger that lay in Jane’s voice. He nodded not knowing what else to do or say. His only friend at the moment is in the hospital fighting for her life. He wanted justice more than another person.
