Chapter 38: Chapter 38
CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT
Michael's POV
I really didn't want to do this but I had to do it to keep my crazy mom away from Precious for a while till I know for a fact that she's ready.
I picked a random outfit as I dressed up for the so called date, and it was okay since I wasn't dressing to impress her.
"Don't scare the girl away with that face." Noah advised but I wasn't paying attention to him.
"Goodbye…wish me luck." I said, picking my car keys from the table.
"I wish Annabelle luck because she's going to have a hard time dealing with you." He answered instead while I snorted.
My mom wanted me to pick her up,but I gave different excuses why she should meet me there. I was taking her to the restaurant. I knew there was no way Precious would go and besides she barely goes out so that's a plus.
"You're here." Annabelle said when she saw me.
"How did she get here before me?" I thought.
Annabelle is actually beautiful, I might have dated her if I haven't fallen completely for Precious. Her hair was neatly packed in a bun giving a clear view of her features and the make up did justice to her face.
I couldn't see what she was wearing because she's sitted but the upper part showed just enough cleavage.
"Sorry if I kept you waiting." I apologised, drawing a chair for myself while she offered me a smile exposing her nice dentition….she probably had a surgery to have that type of perfect teeth.
The waitress came for our orders, after asking what Anna wanted I told the waitress what I wanted and she was gone.
"So, how's everything going?" I asked, nearly laughing at my poor attempt at starting a conversation.
"It's great." She said, taking a sip from her wine and also showing her manicured fingers.
She went on to tell me about her achievements, no wonder my mom thought she's a perfect match considering that she's also young.
"You have no idea how happy I was when my mom told me about you." She said, smiling at me.
"Right." I said as I didn't know what else to tell her.
The waitress brought our food and we immediately dug in. My phone started ringing and I smiled when I saw the caller.
"Who's that?" Annabelle asked, but I didn't answer. Instead, I put my phone on silent, which seemed to please her.
"Just keep eating." I told her.
I couldn't wait to go home so I could call Precious back, and I hoped she was okay.
"Tell me a little about yourself, I mean apart from work what do you like doing?" Annabelle asked, as she used the napkin to clean an invincible dirt from her mouth.
"Cooking and hanging out with my friends." I replied.
There was no harm in making small talks to while away time. At least it was a way to avoid any serious conversations with her.
"We're going to have so much fun together. My friends didn't believe me when I told them that I am dating you." She said excitedly.
"Well, technically we're not dating." I said, and it was the truth. Yes we were having lunch which I'm sure is very common among acquaintances.
"Not yet, but you'll fall head over heels for me and before you know it, we'll get married." She concluded and I nearly choked on the food I was eating.
"What?" I managed to ask, because I didn't understand how her mind works.
"I'm sure you know, but your mom is already planning our wedding." Annabelle said, and you could see the happiness written on her face but if only she knew that my heart isn't mine anymore.
"Annabelle, that's because she wants me to get married but in the end, it's still my choice to make." I told her to make things clear so she wouldn't have any weird thoughts.
The only person I can picture in a wedding dress beside me, is Precious so the rest can dream all they want.
"I think it's a matter of time before you ask me to marry you." She said, too confident as she sipped from her wine.
"You're really bold, that's a good thing." I said.
"I know. Do you want to go to your place, we'll have some privacy?" She said, smiling seductively but it wasn't working.
"Actually, I do but not with you." I answered.
"What do you mean?" She asked.
"I have something important I need to do, and I don't need distraction." I told her, killing her excitement.
"I'll be quiet, you won't even know I'm there." She said, but I still refused.
Her presence alone was putting me off as it was, so letting her stay was completely out of the options I had at the moment
"It's work, and I won't be able to keep you company." I lied.
"I could stare at you." She offered.
"Now, it's getting creepy." I tried to joke, but she didn't find it funny.
"Fine then." She pouted.
Coming for this date is one thing, but taking her home when I know exactly what she wants is another thing entirely.
I managed to convince her to go home, which she did after we took the desert. On my way back to the house, I called Precious but she didn't pick and I realized she'd called like three times which is rare.
"Please be okay." I said silently.
I wanted to go straight to her house, but I kicked against it because I could still smell Annabelle perfume on my body when she hugged me goodbye.
Another surprise was waiting for me, Precious in Noah's arm and I managed to hear the last part of his statement.
"....... break up with you." Was what I heard.
"I hope he wasn't telling her what I think he is." I thought, as the both of them acknowledged my presence.
Only one way to find out…
