Chapter 61: Chapter 61
THIRD POV
“How did the chairman go missing? They said he’d be here, so how did he go missing?!”
“I don’t know,” Lux shrugged, “but mom told me the chairman didn’t get on the chopper that was prepared for him.”
Scarlett frowned at Lux, knowing she had a hint, but not wanting to act either.
“Scarlett is right! This is a trap!” Ara yelled.
They all looked at Scarlett, confused, because she had said that it would set a trap for their grandfather.
She came to a halt and frowned at her cousins.
“Don’t tell me you had doubts about me?” she asked. Except for Rianne, her cousins all turned away.
“Maybe? Everything is happening because of you,” said Rianne, glaring at Scarlett.
It took a back, Scarlett and looked at her cousin. Rios scolded the younger sister.
“Rianne, shut up.”
Rianne shook her head and approached Scarlett, pointing to her. “Don’t protect her! Don’t defend her! We all know why this is happening in our family because of her!” she yelled as Rios pulled her away, but she struggled in his hands.
“Don’t say that, bitch!” Ara exclaimed, annoyed because she no longer approves of Rianne's words. “If you say anything else, I’ll slap you; don’t blame Scarlett for everything,” she added.
Rianne burst out laughing.
“They caught my brother because of her and because of her grandpa go missing! When she returned, she brought all the trouble with her!”
Scarlett’s fists clenched as tears streamed down her cheeks. Even though hearing those words hurt her, she couldn’t be mad because they were right. She caused Erin to be caught, and their chairperson disappeared.
She inhaled deeply and approached Rianne.
“Scarlett!”
Rianne’s cries were the only thing she could hear. She raised her hand and bit her lip before hugging Rianne, who was taken aback by what she had done.
“We just feel the same,” she said, smiling. “I’ll do anything to save them,” she added. Scarlett’s face softened as she sensed her cousin’s pain and sadness as Rianne cried.
When the phone rang, they fell silent. They all exchanged glances. Scarlett sighed and let Rianne go as she reached for the phone to answer the call.
“Who is this?” she asked as she answered the phone. But she frowned because all she could hear was laughter.
(“I didn’t expect you to answer my phone, Scarlett.”)
Scarlett returned her attention to the person she was speaking with after looking at her cousin. “Who are you? I don’t have time for this.”
(“It seems you’re looking for your chairman.”)
Scarlett halted. Until she clenched her fist slowly.
“Ferdinand.”
When her cousins heard his name, they all gasped. Rios also ordered Claire and Sander to locate Ferdinand.
(“Oh, do you remember me?”)
Scarlett bit her lower lip and clenched her hand on the phone.
“Where is the chairman? No one else will do it but you!” said Scarlett. She couldn’t contain her rage towards the person she was speaking with.
Scarlett became even madder when Ferdinand laughed.
(“If you think you can beat me, darling, you're mistaken. I’m not stupid like Solen. I know you’re planning to enter my territory, but I’m sorry to say… Furthermore, I got ahead of you! hahaha.”)
*
“You’re an asshole, Ferdinand! Bring back Grandpa! I’m precisely what you need!”
Rios approached Scarlett, who was crying and clinging to the table because she was shaking with rage, and calmed her down.
“You’ve gotten many people involved! Let’s finish this!”
Ferdinand laughed because he liked it when Scarlett was frail, so he used his ace against her.
(“No, Scarlett, this is just the beginning; we’ll see who wins the fight; oh, do you want to speak to your grandfather?”)
Scarlett clenched her fist and bit her lower lip. She was at a loss for words.
“Stop using anyone for your benefit! Bring back the chairperson! And you will face me!”
(“Whoa easy. I have another surprise for you, which I hope you enjoy. See you later, darling…”)
“Damn you—Hello?!! Ferdinand! F-ck!”
Scarlett crushes the phone because the call has ended.
“F-ck you, Ferdinand! You ruined everything!”
Scarlett sat on the floor with her face covered because she couldn’t take it all in.
“Where did I go wrong? Why have all the plans been ruined?” she asked. She rubbed her face out of frustration. “I want to end all of this, but... why…? I don’t know what to do!” she burst into tears in front of her cousins over her failed plans.
“First, they caught Erin. Second, our grandfather! Damn it! I will kill him! I-I will…” she couldn't speak anymore, so she just cried to let out her anger.
She still has a lot to learn and plenty of questions, such as, “Why is she the target?” and “Why does the situation have to be this way?” she couldn’t find an answer because she couldn’t remember what happened in the past until now.
“S-Scarlett…”
Scarlett came to a halt and wiped her tears away because she couldn’t be frail because so many people relied on her. She is powerless to act when her emotions take over.
She stood up and adjusted her clothes, knowing that if Ferdinand desired a war, she would provide it.
“Your children…”
Scarlett came to a halt and looked at the pendant she was wearing, then at her cousins. “Mom’s with them; they’re in the province,” she said.
Her cousins shook their heads and handed her the phone.
Her eyes widened as she covered her mouth as she looked at the picture.
“No… No… This isn’t possible…”
She took a step back and reached into her bag for her phone, which she used to call her grandparents’ hacienda in the province, but no one answered. She tried once more, but the line had been lost.
“FERDINAND!”
He entered her room with tears streaming down her face. She gathered her belongings and brought them to the table. She took a gun and loaded it with a bullet, but she couldn’t do it properly because she was shaking.
“Damn it!”
She tried again, but she was unable to get the bullet to go in properly. “F-ck! Not now!”
Rios approached to get Scarlett’s gun, but Scarlett just slapped Rios’ hand. “Don’t interfere, Rios! I’ll kill Ferdinand!” Scarlett glared at Rios, who remained silent. “They took not only the chairperson, but also my mom and my children! So if this is the only way to keep him quiet, I’ll do it! I’m going to kill him! Do you get it?”
Scarlett pushed Rios aside.
“If it’s a war, it’s a war!”
Scarlett was crying as she reloaded the bullet in her gun, but it stopped her when someone grabbed her gun, so she angrily looked at who it was.
Scarlett came to a halt when she noticed Carter’s expressionless face.
“Can your anger help you? You will not beat Ferdinand if you’re acting like a brat!” Carter exclaimed angrily as he removed the bullet and handed it to Rios.
Scarlett averted her gaze and ignored Carter. She pulled out another gun and was about to load it when Carter grabbed it again. Scarlett bit her lip while crying and took the gun again, but Carter grabbed it and Scarlett didn’t let go, and they almost fought over the gun.
“What the hell, brother! Just leave me alone! I’m going to kill Ferdinand! I’m going to kill him! I have to save our family, especially my children!” she bit her lip again. “They should not be in any danger! So, kindly... Please leave me alone!” she yelled, snatching the gun from Carter’s hands.
Carter’s face softened, and he hugged her. Scarlett came to a halt and fell down when she felt her cousin’s embrace.
Scarlett was squeezing Carter’s shirt. “What should I do? This was not my intention!”
Carter rubbed Scarlett’s back to calm her down because this was not the time to show their weakness, and Ferdinand could use it to his advantage.
“We will fight as one. We will finish this together. So, take a deep breath and relax. We’ll save them.”
Scarlett sobbed as she hugged Carter.
“Scarlett!”
They were taken aback, and Carter pulled away from Scarlett, wiping away her tears. “Go ahead; I know you need him,” Carter said quietly. Scarlett smiled and nodded to her cousin.
Scarlett looked at Dominic, who was worried about his safety and the condition of their kids.
“Dominic…” he ran the distance between them and tightly hugged Dominic. “Our children…”
Dominic nodded and kissed Scarlett on the forehead. “I’m here… I won’t leave your side, okay? We’ll save them,” said Dominic, and Scarlett nodded and hugged the young man once again.
“Scarlett, get some rest.”
They looked at Carter.
“After the break, we’ll devise a backup plan to attack them; are you ready?”
They were all staring at Scarlett, waiting for her response. Dominic held Scarlett’s hand, and to his surprise, Scarlett also held his hand while she stared intently at Carter.
“I’m ready.”
