Chapter 63: Chapter 63

Close to an hour or two later, Val sat in the waiting lounge looking as the police department bustled with officers and outlaws even late in the evening.

Just when she was being escorted out by the female police officer, Val had put on her dress and was now occupied by the thought of attorney Chris leaking her nudes.

She had been questioned regarding the situation and Val had recounted her side of the story in scrambled details. She was too bereaved to focus and recollect everything that had happened.

While still in the waiting lounge, Val tapped her feet on the floor as she stared straight at a point. She couldn't rest easy knowing attorney Chris was still in there, and the police haven't informed her that they had collected the nudes pictures of her that attorney Chris had with him.

' What if he actually has other allies in on this? What if he already made a compact that the nudes be uploaded as soon as news got out that he was arrested or if they didn't hear from him at a certain time?' Val couldn't help but question in fear of these possibilities. She had certainly heard, read and seen many exemplary cases of blackmail as such and she couldn't help but grow wary.

Val couldn't trust the police in

a situation as such. After all, they'd only assured her all these while without result. What was she to do if after all the efforts she'd pulled, her nudes still got leaked out?

No matter the sentence attorney Chris gets, no matter what, it won't be enough to wipe off the stigma Val would face. She knew this, and the fear of this happening had her on caution and at extreme alert.

' What to do?' Val stressed. She bit her nails as she fell in deep thought.

" Ms Valerie" In the middle of her thought, Val heard a deep but soft and concerned voice resound near her. She looked to her side to see who it was and she sucked in air and fidgeted at the sight of him.

Not that she was shocked to see him, but the fact that he also knew what has happened. Val felt uncomfortable being looked at with such pitiful expression. It reminded her of the torturing experience that she so much wanted to erase off of her mind.

" A-are you okay? I came as soon as I heard!" Aidan was especially worried with slight guilt evident in his gaze. He was tasked to keep Val safe, get he didn't even know she was in danger until she found a way to convey this. Aidan felt ashamed and embarrassed to even face her.

' To think the attorney is capable of doing such a thing...' Aidan scorned.

" I-I'm fine, Aidan. Thanks for calling the cops" Val thanked him knowing he was the one who told the cops the address. Without him, she had no idea where she'd be right now.

" And nothing happened. The police came right in time to stop that freak!" Val was a little embarrassed at everything that was going on and didn't want to get in the details. Even when she was being questioned, she kept emphasizing on having female officers conduct the search for her nudes. It wasn't until they assured her that her request would be granted that she finally relaxed and headed to the waiting lounge as they demanded.

"Y-yeah..." Aidan was silent, he didn't acknowledge that he'd been of any help. He hadn't even realized anything was wrong with that call Val had made with him until that woman had called him to inform him of this. He wasn't as shameless as to admit having helped when he really hadn't.

" A-and the bastard!?" Aidan's concerned attitude disappeared as he asked. He almost spat out in disgust.

" He's been arrested and is being interrogated. I hope they get things settled soon..." Val said half to herself in a low tone. She couldn't bare to see attorney Chris walking around freely after all the things he'd done. Val wished he'd rot in jail.

Aidan could tell Val was concerned about the matter. It wasn't over until attorney Chris was totally out of the picture and was no more a threat.

However, Aidan knew he shouldn't say anything at the moment regarding attorney chris being sentenced. After all, there was no telling what attorney Chris could and would do...

Aidan wanted to say something to console Val, but he didn't know what to say. He wasn't used to situations like this, and didn't want to say anything that would cause Val to feel uncomfortable or hurt her. Hence, he decided to keep silent and just let his presence speak.

' If only...' Val's thought roamed towards Bob. With his influence, he was the only person whom she knew to be capable of doing something to help her.

' That's true! who's going to represent him tomorrow?' It suddenly occured to Val that since attorney Chris was arrested and would probably be facing a jail term or have his license revoked, Bob has no one to represent him in court the next day.

' Plus, the evidence in the hands of attorney Chris... Oh no! He would have given it to Courtney since he'd switched sides.' Bob was literally screwed! There was no way he'd be able to find a lawyer to represent him in such short notice, nor would he be able to defend himself in court..

Val pulled out her phone in haste and searched for Bob's number. She soon found it and dialed it.

Prrr... prrr...

" The person you're calling is not answering. Please drop a-"

Beep!

Val cut the call when it rang and rang on and on but there was no response.

Prrr... prrr...

Val dialed again and again but it only led to the same result. No response...

Aidan who watched everything from the side frowned.

' Is she calling Mr Richardson to help her out her situation?' Of course, it was a good idea. Aidan didn't have anything against nor did he condemn it. Considering his influence, Bob could most definitely do something about the situation at hand.

" He's not picking his damn calls!" Val swore in a mutter and threw her phone back into her handbag. She was frustrated as this has been going on for days. Val believed that Bob was definitely ignoring her at this point as everytime he called him, he never answers the phone.

"Is the car here? I need to get back in that apartment..." Val turned to say to Aidan.

" Yeah! let's go" Aidan nodded and rose to lead Val to the car.

Once they got to the parking spot outside, Val got in the car and ordered that Aidan drive her back to Harrison Street where attorney Chris apartment was.

Aidan was baffled as to why she wanted to go back in there but dismissed his thoughts thinking she must have left something in there.

Getting to the apartment, Val rushed towards attorney Chris' apartment.

It was close to 9 pm in the night already. When Val got in the apartment, she met sight of two police experts searching the place, and one of them was the tall tanned officer from earlier along with a female officer.

" Miss, what are you doing here?" The tan police officer asked with a deep frown. She wasn't supposed to be there!

" I came to check something myself..." Val said with a resolute expression and switched her gaze towards the laptop which the female officer had her hands on. Obviously, looking through it to find any piece of evidence.

Aidan after having parked the car came right into the apartment. He nodded at the tall officer and silently stood to the side after informing,

" Just a driver" Aidan told the tan officer who looked at him with obvious skepticism.

" Can I?" Val walked towards the laptop, brushing past the officer who shifted away from the chair. The Tall officer didn't say anything regarding this as he understood Val's plight.

Val sat in her place and quickly navigated through the laptop to find the audio recording of her conversation with Mark. She had to find this and have Bob get his hands on it one way or the other before the trial commences the next day.

Val felt guilty as Bob's trial was now in jeopardy because of what had happened. She felt the need to at least make it up to him with an evidence that he could use in court the next day.

' Giving a thought to it, If attorney Chris hadn't been arrested, Bob would have lost everything in his trial tomorrow. He deserves to know what's going on so that he can prepare himself at least.' Val felt that there was no telling what could happen. She didn't know much about court trial proceedings, so she was especially worked out about helping Bob in every way she could as she was his only ally here in San Francisco. Besides, Bob couldn't leave Seattle at the moment.

Val quickly searched through every file and folder in the laptop but couldn't find the audio recording. She tried using the search engine but all was to no avail. Although, She found some of her pictures on the laptop and immediately deleted them and cleared them from the recycle bin.

The female officer who stood behind her just smiled wryly.

' That must be why she came back...' She thought without saying anything. Even if those could have been used as evidence.

Val heaved a deep sigh, rose from the

high-back chair and left the apartment shortly.

" Thank you officers. Aidan, let's go." She urged as she walked past the driver who looked shocked. Where else did they have to go now?

He didn't ask questions however, he only walked behind Val breaking into a jog at some point since the latter was well ahead of him.

When they got in the car, Val ordered that they return to her apartment.
