Chapter 8: Chapter 8
I locked myself in the mirror and climbed to my bed. To say that I was offended was an understatement. I mean, how could he say such words to me? I am not planning on having an affair knowing that I am married to him. I married him so I could get rid of that old man my father wanted me to marry but seeing the way he has been acting made me rethink what I did. Was I wrong in letting him into my life?
I am not sure about anything these days. I only wanted that man to stay out of my life that I forgot to think if this was the best thing to do. At those moments, I was so desperate and I found no other way to escape.
I was deep in my thoughts when I heard a knock on my door. I lazily went out of the bed and opened the door. I saw Wade standing in front of me. Oh, just the person I wanted to see.
"What? You forgot to say anything?" Is aid and rolled my eyes at him.
"Look, Cami, I'm sorry for what I said earlier." He said. "Honestly, it wasn't my intention to offend you or make you feel like I mean it negatively."
"What do you mean? Aside from the fact that what you said was negative in so many ways." I said.
"No, it's not really like that." He said.
"Then, what is it?" I said.
"I just... " He sighed and then looked away. "By the way, I'm on my way to meet your father now. Are you sure you don't want to come with me?"
"I am a hundred percent sure that I won't. Is there anything else I can do for you?" I said.
"No, I think that's just it." He said. "I'll leave now."
"Alright," I said and closed the doors.
I don't know if I'd be happy that he is sorry for what he said. I was just not convinced that he didn't mean it that way. I'm sure that's what he thinks of me. Well, I can't blame him. I am a woman who married a stranger just so I can save my life. It is still clear in my mind how I agreed to marry him.
A few weeks ago...
I entered our house after a long day at the studio. I had a whole day of photoshoot for a famous magazine and it was a lot of work to do. However, I enjoyed it a lot. Modeling is what makes me happy. I was about to go upstairs when I heard someone cleared his throat as if getting my attention.
"Dad..." I said.
"Why are you home so late?" He asked me.
"Well, I had a whole day of work and we've agreed to go on a night out as a celebration for a work done," I said. "How about you? What are you doing down here? Were you waiting for me?"
"Yes, I am," He said. "That boyfriend of yours, you have to break up with him."
"What? Dad! Why?" I said.
"I told you already," He said. "You are going to marry Mr. Yakumo."
"Dad! We've talked about this already. I don't want to marry him." I said.
"You are not going against my will Camierre! I am your father and I know what's best for you." He said.
"No, Dad! I am not marrying him. I am marrying Wade!" I said. Oh my God! I cannot believe that I am still using him as an alibi.
"No, you're not," He said. "And that's final."
"But Dad-"
"Go to your room, now!" He said.
"I cannot believe you could do this to me," I said.
I turned my back on him and started walking to the stairs.
"One more thing," He said. "Give me your phone."
"What?!" I said. "Why?"
"So that you can no longer contact that boyfriend of yours and starting tomorrow, you are not allowed to go out of your room until your wedding Mr. Yakumo.' He said.
"What?! No! You cannot do that!" I yelled.
"Oh, you know I can," He said. "Now, give me your phone."
I cannot believe this is happening to me right now. What a lucky day! I took my phone out of my bag and gave it to him.
"That wasn't so hard, was it?" He said.
"Whatever, Dad," I said. "Excuse me."
I hurriedly walked towards my room and locked the door. Now what? I'm not gonna sit in here and wait for my wedding with that old man. I searched in my bag for my spare phone. Yes, I have a spare phone and I think that was a good idea. The phone that I gave to Dad was my phone for work and this one here is my phone. Now, who do I call for help? If I call my best friend now, he still cannot do anything since she is out of the country at the moment. I have no one else in my mind to call. I am sure dad and that Mr. Yakumo would arrange the wedding as soon as possible and I can't be just here when it happens. I needed to get out of here.
Suddenly, an idea came to me. Wade! He gave me his calling card. I searched for it inside my bag and luckily it was still there. Should I call him? Is this the best thing to do? I don't even know this man. How can I be so sure that he isn't a scam? Well, it's a choice between him and that old man anyway. I am sure it would be him that I want to get married as far as the choices go. Plus, his looks isn't disappointing at all. I can still imagine how handsome he looks on that tuxedo the day I first met him. He is a gift from heavens above and who am I to decline? Right? Wrong.
I put his calling card back on my bag. It was insane that I even had the think of his proposal and way crazier that I even considered it. He is a total stranger and I cannot marry someone I do not know. What if he's a serial killer? Or a rapist? How would I deal with that? It was even suspicious in the first place that he asked me to marry him. I am not calling him. He is out of the equation here.
I lay on my bed thinking about all the possibilities to escape this arranged marriage. I can go abroad or far away from here that no one would know. I'm just not so sure if I could hide forever and besides, I don't like the thought of hiding and not being able to live your life the way you want it to be. If I hide, I know Mr. Yakumo's men would find me in no time. They tried to kidnap me so I guess finding me when I'm gone wouldn't be much of a trouble for them and I am scared of the idea that that could happen.
I just need a plan that will stop them from forcing me to marry him. I am not a businesswoman so I guess; I cannot find a solution to our bankruptcy. Maybe that's the reason that Dad sold me off to that man because he knew that I have no other use in the business.
I rubbed my eyes before I opened them. I was blinded by the sunlight from the window. I saw Lusing and she was opening the window's curtain. Oh, I must have slept while thinking last night.
"Yaya, what are you doing? Can you close it back? I am still sleepy." I groaned.
"I'm sorry dear but your father ordered me to wake you up." She said.
"What? Why?" I said. "It's still too early. Isn't he going to work today?"
"I don't know dear," She said. "He wants you to be ready in thirty minutes. Now, go and take a shower."
"Oh, God! I hate my life." I said as I got up and entered the bathroom. What does he want this time?
I did as I was told and in exactly thirty minutes I was already going downstairs. I was told that he'll be in the dining waiting for me. Indeed, he is.
I cleared my throat as I went nearer to him.
"Good morning Cami, take a seat and eat your breakfast." He said.
"Dad, I was told that you want me ready in thirty. What's going on?" I said as I took a seat in front of him.
"You are going with me to the office today," He said. "I want you to come with me and be at your best behavior."
"Why?" I said. "You know, I'm not interested in business, right?"
"I know." He said while sipping on his usual black coffee.
"So why are making me come with you?" I said.
"Mr.Yakumo wants to meet you." He said and it made me angry in an instant.
"WHAT?!" I said as I stood up.
