Chapter 7: Chapter 7

I excused myself and went to the living area. I needed privacy when I talk to my Dad because I don't know why he's calling me. We might end up arguing with each other. I cleared my throat before I accepted his call.

"What do you need, Dad?" I said the moment that I answered his call.

"Is that how you greet your father whenever he calls his only daughter?" He said.

"Dad now's not really a good time, I am in the middle of something. Why did you call?" I said.

"Well, I just called to check on your husband. He's not answering my calls and I was wondering if he could still meet me today. Is he with you? Can you ask him?" He said.

"Dad, he's not answering for a reason and that is because we are actually having our lunch right now. I'll just tell him that you called." I said. "Would that be all?"

"You really are so eager to get rid of me huh." He said and I could feel the bitterness on his voice.

"I'm just not in the mood for this right now," I said. "I have to go."

"Wait, Cami, can you come with Wade later and join us for our dinner meeting?" He said.

"I don't think so, Dad, I have a lot of things to do," I said. "Don't worry; I'm sure Wade will be there."

"When will you stop being like this?" He said.

I sighed and didn't answer his question. I don't even know how to answer him without being so mean.

"It's been a week since you got married and I haven't seen you since then." He said.

"Dad, I have to go. Bye." I said and turned off the phone.

I went back to the dining and saw Wade and Riley laughing together.

"What did I miss?" I asked them.

"Nothing," Riley said. "Just some old jokes from college that you don't wanna know."

"Oh, the college must be fun for you two." I said.

"You have no idea," Wade said while laughing again. "We were the students that a teacher wouldn't want to handle."

"I don't even wanna hear about it, I'm sure your teachers didn't forget about you." I said while laughing with them.

"Well, with the looks such as ours, who would forget, right?" Riley said playfully at me.

"Yeah, right bro," Wade said. "No one would."

"Yeah, I get it, you two got the looks and you are very humble about it." I said sarcastically.

The room was filled with our waves of laughter. This is a good day after all.

"Anyway, as fun as this has been, I really need to go." He said. "I have to meet someone."

"You're right, this has been fun so why don't you stay a little longer?" I said.

"As inviting as that sounds but I really have to go. Can we do that next time?" He said. "I'm sure there will be a next time."

"Of course, bro," Wade said. "You are always welcome here."

"Yeah, thanks bro," He said. "So, I'll leave you two now. I am actually late for my meeting."

"Sure bro, let us walk you out." Wade said.

"Alright bro, thanks for having me." He said.

"No problem bro," Wade said. "We're glad to have you here."

We walked towards the main door and waited until Riley could drive off. He waved goodbye at us and drove outside the gate.

"Do you think he has a girlfriend?" I asked Wade.

"What? Why do you want to know? Oh no, don't tell me that you like him." He said.

"What?! Of course not! I do not like him, okay?" I said.

"You sound so defensive," He said. "Why do you want to know?"

"I'm just curious, okay? Am I not allowed to ask questions about him?" I said.

"You're not if you are interested in him." He said.

"I said that I'm not interested in him; didn't you hear me?" I said.

"It sounded like you were Cami." He said.

"Well, I am not," I said. "I just asked out of curiosity here."

"I don't know for sure but he hasn't mentioned anything to me so I guess he isn't seeing someone right now." He said and he obviously sounded so annoyed.

"Oh, that's too bad for him, looks like he wanted to have someone in his life right now." I said.

"Oh, so you are concerned for him now?" He said.

"What's wrong with you? I was just trying to make a conversation here." I said and just like him, I sounded so annoyed.

I walked past him and headed to the dining. I need a glass of water just by talking to this jerk.

"Hey, where are you going?" He said as he held my arm.

"Why? I don't wanna talk to you when you're acting like that. I need a glass of water, can I go now?" I said.

"Of course," He said and let go of my arm.

I sighed and continued walking when he called me out.

"Hey Cami," He said. "I'm sorry about how I acted."

"Well, you should be." I said.

"I just don't want you getting interested in my best friend, that's all. You are my wife and everyone knows that. I don't want them to get the impression that my wife is fooling around." He said.

I don't know what's wrong with this man. He was fine a while ago when we walked Riley to the door and then now, he acts so irritated and I have no idea how. Was I right earlier when I said that everything was just for show? He was just being nice and cool because Riley was there. However, he was fine also when we were at the pool and Riley wasn't even there. What's wrong with him?

"Wow, you really know how to apologize, Wade." I said sarcastically. "I am your wife only in papers and even if that's the case I would never fool around. How dare you think of me like that?"

"That's not what I meant, okay?" He said. "I just-"

"Of course, that's what you meant." I said bitterly.

"No, I was just thinking about you and what people would say about you, okay? I didn't mean to offend you." He said. "It's really not my intention."

"Whatever," I said. "You know what? Let's just get this over with so I can go back to my old life."

"You know it's not that easy, right? I told you already, you still have to wait until the coast is clear. That old man is still out there." He said. "Let us just let him get over with the fact that you're already married and he cannot have you anymore."

"Oh, I cannot wait, really. Excuse me," I said. "Oh, before I forgot, Dad called and he said he's been calling you but you're not picking up. He wants to know if you could still meet him."

"Alright, I'll just call him later." He said.

I nodded, walked past him and straight to the kitchen. I went through the fridge and took bottled water. I drank almost all of it and I went to my room as fast as I could.
