Chapter 45: Chapter 45

I didn't know if I would regret letting him drive me or home or if I would be thankful. We haven't really talked that much and I would like it to stay that way. I really just wanted to be home and forget about this horrible night that I didn't thought too much of him driving me home.

Wade knew where I have been staying since he already knew the way. We were silent all the way there and it was awkward. I looked at him and he was too focused on driving and even with his clenched jaw, he still looked handsome. I didn't know what was going on with me. I was happy to see him but I was also mad at him at the same time. I shouldn't be feeling this, right? I can't let my emotions get to me again. He already broke me and I think once is enough for me to be able to learn my lesson.

"Is there something wrong?" He said without even looking at me. "It's rude to stare, you know."

"W-what?" I said.

"You have been staring at me, Cam." He said as he glanced my way. "What's up?"

"No, I wasn't," I said as I turned my back on him and faced the window. "And please keep your eyes on the road."

I heard him laughed a bit. Well, I'm glad that he finds this situation funny.

"What's funny?" I said as I raised my brow.

"Nothing," He said sounding so amused.

"Whatever," I said.

He said nothing and just focused on driving.

"So you already knew where I have been staying," I said still looking out of the window. "Were you following me at the mall?"

"No," He said. "But my men did; I was afraid that you would get mad if you see me in there."

"And here I am thinking that you have no idea where I am. Why didn't you approach me?" I said.

"I wanted to give you the time and space that you needed." He said. "I just told them to follow you for your safety."

"I didn't even know that I was being followed," I said as I looked at him.

"That is the main idea of what we did," He said. "We didn't want you to know that you were guarded. I'm sure you would get mad."

"Oh I surely will," I said.

He nodded and I noticed that he stopped the car. I looked outside and saw that we were already outside Erin's vacation house. Wow, that was fast.

He went out of the car and opened the door for me. I took my things and went out of his car as he held the door open for me.

"Good night, Cam," He said. "And please be careful next time."

"I will," I said as I walked towards our gate. "You can go now. Thank you for driving me home and for saving me earlier."

I heard him sighed. I was about to ask him why when he suddenly walked towards me and hugged me. It was so tight that I almost couldn't breathe. I tried to push him but he wouldn't budge. I can't let him do this to me. I can't let him affect me this much. I came here to forget about him and my feelings for him.

"Please, just let me hug you this time," He said and I could feel emotions in his voice. "I missed you so much."

I didn't budge. Hearing him say those words and seeing him so vulnerable is making me emotional. He hugged me so tight and so I couldn't help myself and hugged him too. I must admit, I missed him too. No matter how mad I was at him, I still missed him but I know that I shouldn't. I should guard my heart and not let him break it again.

It was at that touching moment when the gate opened and Vera came out. I immediately let go of Wade and faced her.

"Miss Cami!" She said. "I have been calling you nonstop! Where have you been? I was worried!"

"Vera, I'm sorry, something just happened," I said.

"And who is this young man?" She said as she looked at Wade.

Oh shit! I almost forgot that Wade was behind me.

"Good evening, I'm Wade," He said as he offered his hand.

"I'm Vera," She said. "What are you two doing here outside? It's cold in here."

"Uhm, he was just about to leave; he just drove me home," I said.

"Yeah, I was just about to leave," Wade mimicked what I just said.

"What? No, no, stay for a while. Have you two eaten already? I bet not! Come on; I cooked something for dinner and it would be a waste if no one eats them." She said.

"I really have to go-" Wade said but Vera cut her off.

"Please, stay even just for a while," Vera said.

Wade looked at me and I nodded. It wouldn't harm if he stays over for dinner, right?

"You didn't tell me that your husband is coming over, Miss Cami. Good thing I was able to cook dinner tonight. It could cater to both of you." Vera said.

"No, no, he's not my hus-" I said but she cut me off.

"Erin told me everything already. She said that you and your husband just had a fight that's why you're staying here for the meantime." She said.

"Of course she did," I murmured.

"Come on in," Vera told Wade. "Let's go to the dining and I'll prepare your dinner."

Wade looked at me and I just nodded. I didn't want to offend Vera too so I would just let him stay for dinner.

"Where have you two been?" Vera said. "I bet you are hungry so sit down both of you."

Wade and I sat across each other while Vera prepared our dinner. I couldn't look at Wade straight in the eyes but I could sense that he was staring at me. It makes me feel uncomfortable that we are here together when just a few days ago, I swore not to see or talk to him again. I took the glass of water in front of me and drank from it.

"You two really look good together," Vera said as she put the food on the table. "I can see how much you two are meant for each other."

I almost choke on my water when I heard what Vera said. Goodness! Does she really have to say that out loud? Can't she sense that we were aloof with each other? I looked at Wade and he was smiling at Vera. Does he find this amusing? Oh dear, what is wrong with him?
